    • Progress: the selection has become much better than a few years ago.

Many attractions (Ba Na, My Son, Hai Van Pass) are convenient to visit with a guide. We recommend these platforms with reviews from real tourists — prices there are comparable to street agencies:

Now we present a description of each of Da Nang's attractions with opening hours, cost, and ways to get there:

  • Marble Mountains (Marble mountains)

    Marble Mountains in Da Nang

This is one of the most famous attractions in central Vietnam, and simply a must-visit place if you are staying in Da Nang or Hoi An. The mountains consist of five stone hills, each of which, according to local beliefs, represents one of the five elements of the universe and has a corresponding name: Thuy Son (Water), Moc Son (Wood), Hoa Son (Fire), Kim Son (Metal), and Tho Son (Earth).

Only Thuy Son Mountain (Ngon Thuy Son or Water Mountain) is equipped for tourist visits: paths and stairs, rest areas, decorative lighting in the caves are built. Don't be misled by the name "Marble Mountains," in fact, you can visit only one. Here you can visit several caves with shrines and temples, climb one of two viewing platforms. In addition to caves, along the way you will see various Buddhist pagodas and temples. More about Marble Mountains.

  • Secret Marble Mountains

Such statues are kept in the secret caves of the Marble Mountains

The Marble Mountains near Da Nang are five mountains, each representing an element of the universe, but most tourists see only one equipped for visits. We believe the most vivid impressions await on the "wild" slopes, where you can find mysterious altars deep in caves and secret passages. Visiting such places requires respect, comfortable shoes, and a good flashlight, but reveals a completely different, untouched view of the attraction. More about non-touristic Marble Mountains here.

  • Heaven and Hell Cave (Am Phu Cave)

Heaven and Hell Cave: hellish torments

This cave is often confused with the Marble Mountains, but they are actually different attractions, just located in the same place. This is a natural cave inside which, symbolically and not only, the atmosphere of heaven and hell as understood by Buddhists is recreated. The theme of hellish judgment is presented here in full, which, in general, is what interests tourists the most. Scenes of hellish torment are complemented by appropriate light and sound effects, which together can create eerie feelings in the most impressionable visitors. But don't expect it to be scary here. In fact, it's more amusing, and you can safely visit the cave with children. More about Heaven and Hell Cave.

Quan The Am Temple is the largest Buddhist complex in the famous Marble Mountains near Da Nang, dedicated to the goddess of mercy. We believe it is worth visiting to see non-touristic architecture, a large prayer hall, and especially the cave with marble walls at its base. The visit won't take much time, making the temple a convenient starting point for further exploration of the "wild" slopes of neighboring mountains. More about Quan The Am Temple.

    Cham Museum in Da Nang

The Cham Museum or Museum of Cham Sculpture was founded in 1915 by the French School of the Far East and today is the most famous attraction in Da Nang among foreign tourists. It houses the largest collection of Cham sculpture in the world. It would not be entirely truthful to say that this museum will be interesting to every tourist. Unfortunately, there is no audio guide, tours are conducted only in English and French, and without additional information, wandering among ancient sculptures is not very interesting. But if you are at all interested in history and antiquities, you should definitely stop by here. More about the Museum of Cham Sculpture.

    Exhibits in Da Nang Museum

Da Nang Museum is something like our local history museums. It was reopened and updated in a new location in April 2011 and has since become one of the most interesting places in the city. Here you can see a lot of interesting things and learn about the history of the city and central Vietnam, but in popularity and fame it is inferior to the Cham sculpture museum, although to be honest, it is much more interesting than the latter.

All exhibits have detailed captions in English, and an information brochure is given at the entrance. Undoubtedly, this is a worthy place to visit, it will be interesting for both children and adults. More about Da Nang Museum.

  • Ho Chi Minh Museum and 5th Military Zone Museum

Exhibit in the 5th Army Museum

Almost every major city in Vietnam has a museum of the great leader Ho Chi Minh. In Da Nang, it is a whole complex on the territory of an active military unit, housing the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Ho Chi Minh's Stilt House Museum, and the 5th Army Museum (Military zone 5 museum or Museums Quan khu 5). The museum is very large, consisting of many exhibition halls on three floors, filled with weapon samples, military equipment, awards, documents, photographs. Overall, the museum is worth visiting, primarily due to the large collection of weapons and large military equipment, although the price, in our opinion, is a bit high. This museum will be interesting not only to art lovers but also to a wide range of visitors, including tourists. It is very clean and well-maintained, the exhibits are new, and everywhere there are at least captions with authors' names and work titles in English. On three floors, over 1000 works by contemporary artists and designers are displayed, as well as traditional art. In addition to the permanent exhibition, temporary photo and art exhibitions by local authors are held here. It cannot be said that you must visit this museum, but if time allows, it's worth stopping by, you won't regret it. More about the Fine Arts Museum in Da Nang.

Dragon Bridge (Dragon Bridge) is one of the most impressive architectural attractions of the city and a new symbol of the city. Its construction was dedicated to the 38th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang, celebrated on March 29, 2013. This is the sixth bridge in the city across the Han River. Like other new bridges in Da Nang, it is built in a unique design, in this case in the form of a dragon stretched across the river and looking towards the South China Sea. At night, it is very beautifully illuminated, changing colors. More about Dragon Bridge.

    Practical Information

Also, like the Dragon Bridge, it was officially opened on the anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang on March 29, 2013, although it began operation earlier. Its architecture is unique and seems more modern than that of the Dragon Bridge. At first glance, one might think it's simple geometric architecture, since the bridge's cables form a triangle. However, here too, Vietnamese traditions are embedded, namely, in shape it repeats a Vietnamese boat with sails, hence the name - Sail. More about Sail Bridge.

This bridge is the shortest of the three new bridges across the Han River in central Da Nang, and at the same time, in our opinion, the most beautiful, especially at night. It shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow, creating various lighting effects on the cables. You can admire it for a very long time, which is especially convenient to do from the viewing platform of the city park by the river.

It was opened on March 29, 2000, on the anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang. This is the first bridge completely designed by Vietnamese engineers and built by local workers.

    Han River Cruises

Han River Cruises (Han River Cruise) is one of the few evening entertainments for tourists in central Da Nang. However, it has its own peculiarities: all these river boat tours are mainly aimed at local tourists and Chinese. This means that you will most likely be on board surrounded by Asian tourists with their "special" temperament, and they won't understand a word of English. Moreover, most of the people on the boats will be elderly. But if this doesn't scare you, you can go on an evening cruise on the Han River, during which you will see the night city in all its sparkling light splendor, sail under the beautiful bridges of Da Nang, and listen plenty to modern Asian music performed by karaoke lovers on board. In short, it will be fun!

Couples in love come here to leave a lock on the railings — they can be bought right on the spot. In the evening, beautiful lighting turns on, cafes and a souvenir shop work. This place is convenient to visit during a walk along the embankment — it is located near the Dragon Bridge and Son Tra night market. More about Love Pier and Dragon Carp Fountain.

Be sure to check out the food court with a variety of street delicacies — in our experience, it's safe to try everything here. Prices are inflated for everyone, so feel free to bargain. We recommend visiting this place for the atmosphere, even if you don't plan to buy anything — it's especially convenient that the market is located near Dragon Bridge and Love Pier. Narrow streets between old houses are decorated with atmospheric graffiti depicting scenes from local life, creating an amazing contrast with the modern high-rises around. In our experience, this is the perfect place for a short 20-minute walk to feel the atmosphere of non-touristy Da Nang. The main thing is to respect the privacy of local residents and photograph the streets and drawings. More about Old Quarter Da Nang Fresco Village.
