Description of Ho Chi Minh Museum and Fifth Army in Da Nang and is it worth visiting
Almost every major city in Vietnam has a museum of the great leader Ho Chi Minh. In Da Nang, this is an entire complex on the territory of an active military unit, where the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Ho Chi Minh Stilt House Museum, and the Fifth Army Museum (Military zone 5 museum or Museums Quan khu 5) are located.
The Fifth Army Museum or Fifth Militarized Zone (Military zone 5 museum or Museums Quan khu 5) is dedicated to the defense of the fifth military zone during the confrontation with the French and the American-Vietnamese War. After all, Da Nang has always played a very important role during all military confrontations due to its special geographical location and economic development.
The Fifth Army Museum is very large, consisting of many exhibition halls on three floors, filled with weapon samples, military equipment, awards, documents, and photographs. The premises and exhibits are in a somewhat neglected state, everything is dirty and dusty, but credit where it's due – the collection is very large. There are, by the way, many rare items and weapons from the USSR.
Outside, samples of large military equipment (tanks, aircraft, self-propelled guns, etc.) of French, American and Soviet production are displayed. But for some unclear reason, there is more enemy equipment here than friendly Soviet equipment. By the way, pay attention to the wheels of foreign combat vehicles: they are somehow produced in the USSR and Russia.
Behind the Fifth Army Museum building there is a garden and the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House Museum (replica). You can enter it by climbing the stairs and get acquainted with the recreated lifestyle in which the great leader lived and worked.
A little further there is another building directly of the President Ho Chi Minh Museum, where documents, photographs and items related to Ho Chi Minh's life are presented. As of 2025, it was under restoration.
Overall, the museum is worth visiting, primarily due to the large collection of weapons and large military equipment. All three buildings and the outdoor equipment exhibition are located on the territory of an active military base, and it is forbidden to go beyond the prohibiting signs. At the entrance, when purchasing tickets, they give a colorful memo with a museum plan and a brief description.
