How to Get to Da Nang: All Methods for Independent Travelers

Article and Section Navigation

Overview of Ways and Means to Get to Da Nang

Da Nang is located in central Vietnam, 750 kilometers from Hanoi and 800 from Ho Chi Minh City (Da Nang on the map). You can get here from other countries by plane via Da Nang International Airport, and from cities in Vietnam by train and intercity buses.

The easiest way is to fly here directly by plane, but flight prices are not always acceptable, so the most budget-conscious travelers first fly to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or Nha Trang, and then transfer to a local plane, train, or bus, which can save $100-200. You can also reach Da Nang by bus from Laos. We'll tell you in detail about all methods in our detailed guide below, and for starters, here is brief information on the main routes:

  • From cities in Russia, CIS, and other countries. It is best to fly directly to Da Nang Airport on an international flight. But if you can't find tickets or the price is not suitable, you can fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, or Nha Trang, and from there take a bus, train, or again a local flight.
  • From Da Nang Airport. From the airport by taxi from 100,000 VND or bus for 8,000 VND (10-20 minutes).
  • From Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. It's best to fly (1 hour 20 minutes). If you buy tickets well in advance, prices are very affordable. Overland by bus (cheapest, 14 hours travel time), or by train (more comfortable, but noticeably more expensive than bus).
  • From Nha Trang. From Nha Trang there are direct flights (1 hour), or bus and train (10 hours).
  • From Da Lat. There are direct flights (1 hour), or bus (13-14 hours).
  • From Mui Ne/Phan Thiet. There are no direct buses from the Mui Ne resort area to Da Nang. From Phan Thiet bus station there is a direct bus (13-15 hours). Alternatively, go to Ho Chi Minh City airport and catch a flight to Da Nang. But considering the travel time to the airport, it won't be much faster.
  • From Phu Quoc. By plane direct flight 1 hour 45 minutes. Traveling overland makes no sense, as it will take at least two days.
  • From Other Cities in Vietnam. Da Nang is the largest transport hub in central Vietnam; you can get there by direct bus from almost everywhere. There are direct buses from Vung Tau, Phan Rang, Sapa, Cat Ba Island,
  • From Laos. There are direct buses from Vientiane.

Flying to Da Nang is the optimal choice for saving time

We recommend this method to everyone who values time and comfort, or who is arriving from outside Vietnam. Da Nang Airport (DAD) has transformed from a modest terminal into a modern air gateway in recent years.

Flights to Da Nang: Where to Fly From

There are two scenarios here: international and domestic.

From Russia and CIS: Unfortunately, there are no direct regular flights at the moment. Charter flights from cities in Siberia (Novosibirsk, Irkutsk) appear sporadically, but it's hard to count on them. Our proven route is to fly with one stopover. Most often this is:

  • Via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City: Fly, for example, with Qatar Airways or Turkish Airlines to one of these cities, and from there take a domestic flight with Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, or Bamboo Airways to Da Nang. The domestic flight takes about 1.5 hours.
  • Via Asian hubs: A convenient option is via Bangkok, Singapore, or cities in China. Local airlines have direct flights from these cities to Da Nang. It turns into one long and one short flight.

Important: To make the flight more reliable, it's better to buy one ready-made through ticket with connections. Then you will be "insured" against missing your connecting flight: if your first flight is delayed, the airline will put you on its next flight or get you to your final destination another way.

From Vietnam and Asia: It's simple here. There are daily flights to Da Nang from almost all major Vietnamese cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc. Prices start from 1-1.5 million VND one way (38.02 USD), if you catch a Vietjet sale or buy well in advance. From abroad, there are many flights from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, China, Japan.

Life hack from our experience: Don't think that flying within Vietnam is always expensive. Domestic flights here, especially on low-cost carriers like Vietjet, are often cheaper than a night train in a sleeper, if you buy tickets several weeks in advance. Our method: we take only hand luggage (enough for everything), and if we need checked baggage, we check one bag for two people.

To avoid overpaying, we always compare prices on aggregators like Aviasales and Trip.com. The search engines are good at finding combined options from different airlines. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy one through ticket, and sometimes two separate ones.

How to Get from Da Nang Airport to the City

Our choice is an official taxi or the Grab app

Da Nang International Airport (Danang International Airport, IATA code - DAD) – these are the main air gates in the central part of Vietnam. It is located almost in the center of the city, which greatly facilitates ways to get from it to your accommodation in Da Nang or Hoi An (airport on the map). You can even walk to some hotels in the central part of Da Nang, if you, for example, just need to spend the night after the flight.

Here are the options:

What to do if your hotel is in Hoi An or Hue? You don't have to go to the center of Da Nang first. You can take a taxi/transfer directly to the location. The trip to Hoi An takes about an hour and costs from 300,000 VND (11.41 USD). To Hue – about 2 hours and from 1,000,000 VND (38.02 USD). Or a more budget but troublesome option: taxi to Da Nang bus station + bus. But for a first visit, it's better not to complicate things.

You can book a ready transfer through your hotel or on trusted aggregator sites:

Tip! Check and compare prices on different sites, they can vary greatly.

How to Get to Da Nang by Train 🚆

Train in Vietnam at Hanoi railway station

Traveling by train in Vietnam is an adventure in itself. The line between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City runs through the whole country from north to south with Da Nang in the middle. It is considered one of the most scenic in the world, and the scenic section through the Hai Van Pass is located right near Da Nang. The views from the window are breathtaking.

Da Nang Railway Station is located in the center at 200 Hai Phong Street (railway station on the map), which is very convenient. It is modern, clean, with clear navigation. We have a separate guide to Da Nang Railway Station.

  • From the station to your hotel in the city, to the airport or bus station you can take a taxi. Many taxi drivers and motorbike taxi Grab drivers are always on duty at the exit from the train station, but they offer inflated prices not via the app, but at their negotiated price. We advise you to refuse them and order through the Grab, Maxim, XanhSm apps. To order, you can use the free Wi-Fi at the station. The ride to the tourist area will cost around 80,000 VND (3.04 USD), you can go to Hoi An for 350,000 VND (13.31 USD).

  • Right after exiting the railway station, across the road to the left, there is motorbike rental from 130,000 VND per day (4.94 USD), and you can rent one immediately after arrival and go to your destination.

  • For 8,000 VND you can get to the center by bus No. 05, or for 30,000 VND by No. 16 + LK-02 to Hoi An. For more details on routes, see our guide on Da Nang buses.

Da Nang Railway Station. From here you can go north to Hanoi or south to Ho Chi Minh City.

Practical Details: Classes, Tickets, Routes

  • Main Directions:

    • North (odd train numbers): Hanoi (~17-19 hours), Hue (~2.5-3 hours), Dong Hoi.
    • South (even numbers): Ho Chi Minh City (~17-19 hours), Nha Trang (~9-10 hours), Quy Nhon.
  • Car Classes (from best to worst)

    • Soft Sleeper (4-berth compartment): Air conditioning, clean bedding, power outlet. Ideal for night trips. A ticket from Da Nang to Hanoi costs about 1.3 – 1.8 million VND.
    • Hard Sleeper (6-berth compartment): Same bunks, but in three tiers. The top bunk is very low. 20-30% cheaper.
    • Soft Seat / Hard Seat: For short daytime trips (e.g., to Hue). Hard Seat is a real immersion into local life, but not comfortable for a long journey.
  • Where to Check Schedules

The best source is the official Vietnam Railways website (dsvn.vn). It has all trains, even suburban ones. If you can't figure it out (it's half in Vietnamese, no Russian), then check the Russian version of 12go.asia.

Hard Sleeper carriage

Where to Buy Tickets:

  1. 12go.asia – the best website for foreigners. Interface in English, Russian and other languages, card payment, e-ticket arrives. Prices are slightly higher than at the ticket office, but without hassle.
  2. Official Vietnam Railways website (dsvn.vn) – cheaper, but the interface is half in Vietnamese, card payment may not work.
  3. At the station ticket office – the cheapest way, but you need to buy at least a day or two in advance, especially before holidays.
  4. At travel agencies in any tourist city. The markup is small, and they will do everything for you.

Our verdict: Train is worth choosing if you have time and want to see the country. The night trip Hanoi-Da Nang is an excellent alternative to hotel+flight. But if you value speed and comfort, a domestic flight is better.

If you're ready to travel around Vietnam by train, we advise you to check out our detailed guide on trains in Vietnam. It covers all about carriage types and ticket classes, tips on how and where to buy, and everything else.

Bus to Da Nang: The Most Flexible and Economical Option 🚌

We arrived in Da Nang from Laos on this bus

This is our favorite way to travel around Vietnam. The bus route network is incredibly developed, prices are very low, and the buses, especially from large carriers, are very comfortable: with air conditioning, reclining seats or individual capsules, with on-board Wi-Fi.

Our advice: Buy tickets for VIP buses if such exist for your route. These are sleeper buses with separate cabins, like a capsule hotel (they are more comfortable than a regular Sleeper Bus). In them, you can even travel for two at the price of one ticket, if you really need to save money. We talked about such a bus 🎬 in our video on the channel.

You can reach Da Nang by bus from literally everywhere. Here are the main routes we have personally checked:

  • Hoi An – Da Nang: Frequent departures, travel time 1-1.5 hours, price from 30,000 VND. This is a must-do if you are staying in Hoi An and want to see Da Nang, or vice versa.
  • Hue – Da Nang: ~2.5-3 hours, from 120,000 VND. They run frequently like minibuses.
  • Nha Trang – Da Nang: Overnight sleeper bus, ~10-12 hours, from 380,000 VND. Saves a night in a hotel.
  • Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang: Long-distance trip (~15-20 hours), price from 400,000 VND. We recommend only for those on a very tight budget or who love such adventures. In other cases, it's better to fly.
  • Da Lat – Da Nang: Long-distance trip (~14 hours), price from 430,000 VND.
  • From Laos: Yes, there is direct service from Vientiane and Pakse. The trip is long (24 hours or more), but it's a unique experience of crossing the border by land. And it's much cheaper than a flight. We traveled this way, we can recommend it!

Practical Information

  • Where to Buy Bus Tickets

The most reliable and inexpensive way is to buy at the ticket offices at the bus stations. But not every city has bus stations and it's not always convenient to get to them just to buy tickets in advance. Instead, you can buy tickets through hotel receptions, at street travel agencies, or online. They are sold with a small markup, but it's not critical.

Tip from personal experience: We do not recommend buying tickets from Russian-speaking travel agencies without comparing prices. Once we tried to buy tickets from Nha Trang to Quy Nhon, and several Russian-speaking agencies offered us prices twice as high as at the ticket offices, and almost sold us tickets to a completely different city.

  • Where to Check Schedules

Unfortunately, there is no single website with the schedule of all buses in Vietnam. Even at the bus station ticket offices, you won't be able to get all the information about all buses, since each counter works for its own carrier (you need to check all counters). Moreover, there are also buses that depart not from bus stations, but from their own offices in the cities, or simply pick up tourists from hotels and transfer them to their large bus. The solution here is one: check everywhere.

    • See the transport schedule to Da Nang below on this page.

    • For information on the most popular routes, the website 12go.asia. You can also book tickets there online (but only with a foreign card).

    • An excellent website of one of the largest carriers, Futa Buslines – https://futabus.vn/. It mainly operates in the southern half of Vietnam, i.e., it goes to Da Nang from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Phan Rang, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa. We often travel on their buses, everything is fine. Futa has offices in tourist areas where you can buy tickets and request free transfers from/to your hotel or tourist area.

    • A couple more websites to check schedules - https://vexere.com/, https://www.baolau.com.

But we want to emphasize again! If you don't find a bus schedule for a certain route, it doesn't mean such a bus doesn't exist. We have encountered many times situations where we found and successfully used routes on the ground in travel agencies that do not exist online.

Where Are the Bus Stations in Da Nang

Da Nang Bus Station is the main transport hub of all Central Vietnam

There are two large bus stations in Da Nang:

  • Southern (Da Nang Southern Intercity Bus Terminal)

Located on the outskirts of the city (on the map). City buses No. 7 and No. 15 go here.

The Southern Bus Station is hardly used now; very rare buses arrive here. Perhaps it will regain its importance over time, but there's nothing to tell about it now.

  • Central (Danang Central Bus Station)

Located on Dien Bien Phu Street after the intersection with Highway 1A (on the map).

The Central Bus Station is much more important; currently it is the main point of arrival and departure for most buses in Da Nang. It is huge, inside there are many ticket counters and waiting areas, cafes, even a market. There are no unified ticket counters; each works for a separate route or a separate carrier. So to buy a ticket, you will have to walk around and ask everywhere, or look at the information on the windows. Futa Buslines counters are located here in a separate wing of the building away from all other counters.

There are a lot of ticket counters at the bus station

How to get to/from Da Nang Central Bus Station:

    • By taxi from here to the city center from 100,000 VND, to Hoi An for 400,000 VND.
    • By city buses No. 16, for 8,000 VND to the center. On No. 16 and No. 02 you can go to the final stop beyond the Marble Mountains, and change there to bus LK-02 to Hoi An, the whole trip will cost 30,000 VND.

Frequently Asked Questions About Getting to Da Nang

  • What is the cheapest way to get to Da Nang from Russia?

Combination: look for discounts on air tickets to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, and from there take a night bus or a ticket in a seated carriage (Hard Seat) on the train. This way in 2026 you can manage for 25,000 – 35,000 rubles one way. But this is saving at the expense of time and comfort: you will spend at least two days on the road. If you value time, look for combined air tickets with a layover in Asia — they are often not much more expensive.

  • How much does a taxi from Da Nang Airport to My Khe Beach cost?

By meter with official taxis (Mai Linh, Vinasun) — 70,000–100,000 VND (from 2.66 USD). Grab or Xanh SM will show a fixed price in the app, usually 60,000–90,000 VND (from 2.28 USD. Don't agree to a fixed $10 from drivers at the exit — that's a 1.5 times overpayment.

  • Is there a direct bus from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An?

There is no direct scheduled bus. Options: 1) Taxi/transfer (from 300,000 VND, 1 hour). 2) Local route: taxi to Da Nang bus station (~100,000 VND) + bus to Hoi An (30,000 VND). You will save money but spend twice as much time. For the first time or with luggage, take a taxi.

  • What is better: night train or night bus Hanoi–Da Nang?

Definitely a night train in a compartment (Soft Sleeper). You can lie down, there is a toilet in each carriage, less shaking. A sleeper bus is cheaper, but the sleeping berths are short (a problem for tall people), the road is more bumpy, and you will arrive exhausted. If your budget allows — choose the train.

  • Can I buy a train ticket in Vietnam with a Russian bank card?

No, no Russian cards, including UnionPay, work for online payment.

  • Is it worth renting a car at Da Nang Airport?

If you are a confident driver and plan to travel a lot around the region (to Hue, Hai Van Pass, surrounding areas) — yes, it will give you freedom. But for getting around only Da Nang and Hoi An, there's no point: parking is difficult, traffic is chaotic, and taxis and Grab are very cheap. Important: you need exactly an International Driving Permit (IDP) of the Russian type + your regular license.
