In this article, we break it all down: from real prices and schedules to personal lifehacks that will save you money and nerves.

Comparison of all ways: what to choose?
For a quick understanding, here is our summary table, based on the latest experience and current 2025 prices.
| Way | Travel Time | Approximate price (one way) | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plane | ~1.5 h + travel to/from airports | from 1,200,000 VND (45.63 USD) | Very fast, comfort, frequent promotions | Cost, time spent on logistics at airports |
| Train (night compartment) | ~16-18 hours | from 1,300,000 VND (49.43 USD) | Reliable, saves a hotel night, scenic views in the morning | Very long, needs to be booked in advance |
| Bus (night sleeper) | ~15-17 hours | from 400,000 VND (15.21 USD) | Cheapest, night trip saves a day | Least comfort, bumpy on roads |
Our opinion: If your budget allows — take the plane. You will save irreplaceable vacation time. If you want to save money and feel the country — the night train in a Soft Sleeper compartment is an excellent compromise between comfort and price. Bus — the choice for the most budget-conscious travelers and backpackers.
Plane from Hanoi to Da Nang ✈
This is our choice when we want to get to the sea quickly. Direct flights from Noi Bai Airport (HAN) to Da Nang Airport (DAD) are operated by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways several times a day. You will spend about 1 hour 20 minutes in the air.
Practical details: from booking to arrival
Lifehack from our experience: Prices for Hanoi-Da Nang flights are very dynamic. Vietjet has crazy sales when tickets drop to 500-700 thousand dong. To catch such a price, subscribe to airline newsletters and check prices 3-5 weeks before the trip. Sometimes a discounted plane ticket turns out to be even cheaper than a train!

Where to search and buy tickets
Prices start from 1.2 - 1.8 million VND. We always compare offers on aggregators Aviasales and Trip.com. They show all available flights, including options with different departure times and baggage allowance.

How to get to Noi Bai Airport from Hanoi center
The airport is located 45 km from the center (airport on the map). Options:
- Taxi (Grab, Mai Linh): The most convenient. A trip via Grab will cost about 250,000 - 350,000 VND (9.51 - 13.31 USD). Travel time 40-60 minutes.
- Express bus №86: An excellent budget option for 45,000 VND. Goes directly from the terminals to Hoan Kiem Lake in the center. Travel time — about 90 minutes.
- City bus №17: The cheapest — 15,000 VND. Goes to Long Bien station, near the tourist area.
- Pre-ordered transfer: Convenient for a family with children or a late departure. Can be ordered via Kiwitaxi or at the hotel reception.
-
How to leave Da Nang Airport for the city
Da Nang Airport is within the city, which is a huge plus.
- Taxi (Grab, Mai Linh, Vinasun): Our favorite. To My Khe beach or the center — 70,000–100,000 VND (2.66 - 3.8 USD) in 15-20 minutes.
- City bus: The most economical. Buses No.06 and No.10 go to the center. Cost only 8,000 VND.
- If your hotel is in Hoi An: Take a taxi directly from the airport (from 300,000 VND, 1 hour) or pre-order a transfer.
Our verdict: Flying is the absolute champion in speed. When we want to start a beach holiday on the day of departure or don't want to lose a whole day on the road, we choose it. Especially if we manage to catch a sale.
Train from Hanoi to Da Nang 🚆
Train travel on the "Reunification Express" line is a Vietnamese classic. This is the most romantic and leisurely way to get to Da Nang, especially if you take a night train in a compartment. You can go to sleep in Hanoi and wake up already approaching the sea. Travel time — from 16 to 18 hours.
All about trains: classes, tickets, stations
-
Car classes: what to choose for a long journey
- Soft Sleeper (4-berth compartment): The best choice for an overnight journey. There is air conditioning, clean bedding, power outlet, you can close the door. Price Hanoi-Da Nang — from 1,300,000 to 1,800,000 VND.
- Hard Sleeper (6-berth compartment): 20-30% cheaper. Same berths, but in three tiers, the top one is very low and uncomfortable for tall people.
- Soft Seat / Hard Seat: For 17 hours on the road — real torture. We don't recommend it, unless you want an extreme immersion into local life.

Where to buy tickets and how not to overpay
- 12go.asia — the best website for tourists. Has Russian language, electronic tickets, detailed description of classes. Prices are higher than at the ticket office, but without the headache. Russian cards do not work, a foreign card is needed.
- Official Vietnam Railways website (dsvn.vn) — cheaper, but the interface is complicated, Russian cards don't work, and not even all foreign ones work. However, this has the most complete schedule.
- Ticket office at Ga Ha Noi station: The cheapest way (station on the map). Buy at least 1-2 days in advance, especially for Friday and Sunday departures. Tickets for sleeping berths sell out quickly.
- Street travel agencies in Hanoi's tourist area: Convenient if you don't want to go to the station yourself. The markup is usually reasonable. Attention: beware of inflated prices and ticket class fraud.
Important from our experience: Be careful when buying tickets from suspicious agents on the street, especially around Hoan Kiem Lake. They may sell you a fake ticket or a ticket in a different class. It's better to spend half an hour and go to the station.
-
Stations: departure and arrival
In Hanoi: All trains to Da Nang depart from the main station Ga Ha Noi at 120 Le Duan street (station on the map). You can get there by Grab taxi from the tourist area (about 50,000 VND), or even walk with a light backpack.
In Da Nang: The railway station is located in the city center on Hai Phong street (station on the map). From here to a hotel on My Khe beach — taxi for 80,000 VND or bus No.05 for 8,000 VND.
Our verdict: The night train in Soft Sleeper is the ideal option for those who don't want to fly but value relative comfort. You save on a hotel night, and in the morning you will have stunning views of Hai Van Pass and Da Nang Bay right from the window. Choose the daytime train only if you are a railway fan and are ready to spend a whole day on the road.
Bus from Hanoi to Da Nang 🚌
This is the most budget-friendly way to get to the sea. The Hanoi-Da Nang route is served by many companies, mainly offering night sleeper buses (Sleeper Bus). This allows you to leave in the evening, sleep through most of the journey, and arrive in the morning. Travel time — 15-17 hours.
Practice: from ticket purchase to arrival
Our advice: Look for buses marked "VIP Sleeper" or "Cabin Bus". Instead of shared rows of berths, they have separate cabins with a door or high partitions. This is much more comfortable and gives a sense of privacy. The price difference with a regular sleeper bus is not that big, but the comfort is many times greater.

Main carriers and where to look
Flights are operated by companies like The Sinh Tourist, Hanh Cafe, Hoang Long. The price starts from 400,000 VND. Departure is usually between 18:00 and 22:00 from bus stations or company offices in Hanoi's tourist area.

Where to buy tickets in Hanoi
- 12go.asia — a convenient online aggregator with reviews. You can compare different companies and bus classes.
- Giap Bat Bus Station: This is the southern bus station of Hanoi, from where most buses to the south depart. Prices at the ticket offices are the lowest, but you need to get to the station.
- Offices of bus companies in the tourist area (around Hoan Kiem Lake): The most convenient option. Many companies offer a free transfer from their office to the bus station. Clarify this when buying!

Where buses depart from and arrive
In Hanoi: Most buses to Da Nang depart from the Giap Bat bus station or pick up passengers in the tourist area, then take them to this station.
In Da Nang: The main arrival point is the Central Bus Station (Danang Central Bus Station) on Dien Bien Phu street (on the map). From here to the center or beach you can take a Grab taxi (from 100,000 VND) or city bus No.16 for 8,000 VND.
Our verdict: The night sleeper bus is the choice for those with a limited budget and for whom time is not so important. It's real savings and a unique experience. Buy tickets from trusted carriers (The Sinh Tourist has a good reputation), be prepared for a long road and take warm clothes with you — the air conditioners on buses often work at maximum.
Final recommendations: what to choose?
Based on our experience, here's how we make a decision:
- Are you flying on a 7-10 day vacation and want maximum time by the sea? Take the plane. Don't skimp on vacation time.
- Do you have 2+ weeks, a medium budget, and don't like to fly? Your choice is the night train in a Soft Sleeper compartment. It's an adventure that will save you one hotel night.
- Are you a backpacker or just want to get there as cheaply as possible? Your path is the night VIP Sleeper Bus. The savings are significant, and you'll greet the morning already in Da Nang.
Regardless of your choice, buy tickets in advance, especially if your trip falls on weekends, Vietnamese holidays, or high season (December-February).
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
What is the fastest way to get from Hanoi to Da Nang?
The fastest is the plane. Including travel to the airports and check-in, the whole journey will take about 4-5 hours. Pure time in the air is 1 hour 20 minutes.
-
Can I buy a train ticket on the day of departure?
Theoretically yes, but it's a big risk, especially for sleeping berths (Soft/Hard Sleeper). These berths sell out several days in advance. There is a chance only for seated places (Hard Seat), but traveling in them for 17 hours is a dubious pleasure. We strongly recommend buying tickets at least 2-3 days in advance.
-
How comfortable is a night bus compared to a train?
The train is definitely more comfortable. In a train compartment, you can lie down at full length, there is a toilet in each car, less shaking. In a bus, the berths are short (a problem for people taller than 175 cm), the road is more bumpy, the toilet is only at sanitary stops. If your budget allows you to choose between a bus and a train for a similar price — choose the train.
-
What to take with you on a night train or bus?
Mandatory: a warm sweater or blanket (the air conditioner works overtime), earplugs and a sleep mask (salvation from noise and light), a bottle of water and a light snack, wet wipes and a power bank. On the train, you can take something more substantial; on the bus, there will be stops at shops and cafes for 20-30 minutes to eat.
