What Beaches Are in Da Nang
Da Nang Beaches: Quick Overview for Fast Decision
My Khe — infrastructure, lifeguards, gentle slope. Waves from September to December.
Bac My An (China Beach) — 20 km of deserted sand, few people. Almost no infrastructure.
Da Nang Bay (Red Beach) — always calm water, but less clear. Road runs along it.
📅 Best beach season: March-August (calm seas, sun). Low season: September-December (waves, rain, dangerous currents).
The total length of beaches just within the city limits is over 15 kilometers!!! Another at least 20 kilometers stretch towards Hoi An beyond Da Nang. And all this stretch is a sandy beach with fine white sand. What's really great is that even in peak season, there are almost no tourists in the very center of the city beach. Not to mention the rest of the coast, where for many kilometers there's not a soul. The reason is that Da Nang is not yet very popular among European and Russian tourists, as most vacationers here are locals and Chinese. And they, as you know, are quite indifferent to beach recreation and swimming, if not wary.
There are no paid beaches here; all are open to the public. Even those located by hotels can be freely accessed, only sunbeds and extended services won't be available.
There are very few activities on Da Nang's beaches, but they do exist. During high season at My Khe city beach, you can ride jet skis, banana boats, and parasails. There are also board rentals and surfing lessons. Here are current prices:
- Banana boat ride for 5 people – 1,000,000 VND / 38.02 USD.
- Parasailing – 650,000 / 24.71 USD.
- Jet ski 15 minutes – 650,000 / 24.71 USD.
Infrastructure on the shore in the center is typical: sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, restrooms, showers, drinks for sale. There are cafes and restaurants, but not directly on the beach; they are along the promenade. What's good is that vending is prohibited, so there are no hawkers bothering you with various trinkets.
Drinks and sunbeds are offered everywhere at the same price:
- Sunbed – 40,000 VND (1.52 USD, )see Vietnamese currency and exchange rates)
- Fresh chilled coconut – 30,000 (1.14 USD)
- Water 1.5L and carbonated drinks – 12,000 (0.46 USD)
- Beer 0.33L – from 25,000 (0.95 USD)
- Foot wash – free.
- Shower – available at cafes, free if you order something.
But the downside is, since the beach is very long, amenities are not available everywhere. So during high season, sunbeds might even run out. In that case, it's a good idea to bring a large beach towel or an inflatable mattress. You don't have to bring them from home; you can buy them here at markets and shops on the way to the beach.
Hotels and Accommodation in Da Nang
Da Nang is a very popular resort and the fastest-growing one in Vietnam. Along with the infrastructure, its popularity is also growing, especially among local tourists and the Chinese. As a result, accommodation prices have risen over the past few years. However, compared to other countries, including in Southeast Asia, the cost of staying here is still very affordable. Minimum prices for reference:
- Hostel bed – from 150,000 VND / 5.7 USD.
- Room in a budget guesthouse for two with A/C – from 300,000 VND / 11.41 USD.
- Hotel room for two with A/C and breakfast – from 400,000 VND / 15.21 USD.
- Hotel room equivalent to 4-5 stars – from 1,000,000 VND (38.02 USD).
Of course, prices vary by season, but generally, this is the order.
As for the choice of options, it's huge. There are many hotels, and new ones open every year. If about 15 years ago, the beach area of Da Nang was either vacant lots or low-rise buildings, now skyscraper hotels have risen on the second line (beach just across the street) with a large number of rooms and sea views.
There's no shortage of budget accommodation either: there are hostels for solo travelers, inexpensive guesthouses for couples or families. But all of these are located away from the beach in older low-rise areas.
By the way, from our experience, hotels in Da Nang are clean. Even the cheapest accommodation options here are clean and tidy, whereas in neighboring super-popular Hoi An, for example, for the same price you'd get a shabby, outdated room with not-so-clean bed linen. However, there is one more peculiarity: since the resort is still more geared towards local and Chinese tourists, the staff in many hotels speak very little or no English. So be prepared to communicate using gestures or electronic translators.
Booking hotels in Da Nang during high season (January to August), and especially during the summer months, should definitely be done in advance. And in general, searching for accommodation on the spot in Da Nang is not a great idea, as there isn't really a tourist street or a concentrated hotel area. Hotels are scattered across the vast city territory (see below for choosing a place/area for vacation).

Tides in Da Nang
Tides on Da Nang's beaches are moderate. The difference between high and low water rarely exceeds 1 meter, and given the slope of the seabed and the width of the sandy strip, in most cases, you won't even notice these fluctuations during your relaxation and swimming.
Personally, during our time here, we never worried about tides. But if you still want to be absolutely sure that your beach vacation won't be spoiled by low tides, check the tide forecast for Da Nang before your trip.

My Khe City Beach
What a beauty, My Khe beach This is the main city beach of Da Nang and the most developed spot. It used to be called China Beach. It occupies the entire coastline in the center, stretching for almost 6 kilometers (My Khe on the map).
It's sandy, very wide, clean, with the most developed infrastructure in the city: sunbeds, umbrellas, drinks. Along it runs a beautiful pedestrian promenade, the longest in Vietnam. The seabed slopes gently into the water, suitable for both adults and children. But in the low season (September to December), quite large waves and murky water due to sand suspension appear. Lifeguards are on duty, and swimming is only allowed in areas marked with flags and ropes, and even then only from 4:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Don't swim outside these zones because of strong rip currents (what a rip current is and how to deal with it, we explained in a separate guide).
In short, if you disregard the fact that My Khe is within the city limits, you can safely say it's one of the best city beaches in Vietnam. At least we like it much more than the city beach in Nha Trang. The only thing is, from the perspective of discerning tourists from Russia and Europe, it might seem underdeveloped in terms of amenities for a central city beach.
Here is the most modern part of the city with high-rise buildings
There's always plenty of space on the shore
It's great for walks and the views are beautiful

Bac My An Beach or China Beach
China Beach is deserted and sometimes even this beautiful Following My Khe, beyond the Da Nang city limits, continues Bac My An Beach or China Beach (Bac My An on the map). It stretches another 20 kilometers to Hoi An without interruption. Theoretically, it's divided into several sections with different names, but that doesn't change the essence.
This is mostly a wild beach with no infrastructure. There are a few hotels with their own grounds and beach access. In such places, there are sunbeds, umbrellas, and cafes, but very few. And the further you go from Da Nang, the rarer they become.
In our opinion, this is not the best place for active travelers and tourists to stay for the entire vacation, because you'd find yourself in a sort of "tourist reservation" far from everything. But to come here for a day from the Center and feel like the "king" of the entire coastline for several kilometers – it's a great option.
Good swimming conditions here
But it's not beautiful everywhere here
But for those who love walking along the water's edge, it's paradise here -
Da Nang Bay or Red Beach
On the beach in Da Nang Bay In the north of the city, along the Nguyen Tat Thanh road in Da Nang Bay, stretches a 10-kilometer sandy beach. Also known as Red Beach or Nam O Beach (Danang Bay Beach on the map).
In our opinion, this is not the best place for a beach vacation. Although the area along this beach is developing, there are many budget hotels, cafes, and shops, and over the last few years, the promenade has been renovated and the coastline significantly improved. But it's all somehow dull and simple, with almost no tourists. And, probably, the beach itself is to blame.
The problem is that it's located in the deep Da Nang Bay, which is quite shallow near the shore. As a result, the water here is warmer but looks dirtier, and sometimes even smells unpleasant. At least we've been here many times and have never seen clean, clear water.
Don't think that because this area is away from the center, it will be quiet, peaceful, and cozy. On the contrary, the problem is that a wide road runs along the entire beach, always filled with traffic. So wherever you stay here, you'll have to walk along the promenade to the accompaniment of rushing cars, and to get from the hotel to the beach, you'll always have to cross a busy road.
But this beach does have a plus – there are almost no waves. When the waves at the main My Khe beach are almost knocking you off your feet, here it's just calm. Just look at the photo: the water is calm. So if you're traveling with children, you might consider this beach.
The promenade here has been renovated
The beach has become cleaner and wider
The water here is much calmer than on other beaches
This is the kind of road you'll have to cross to get to the beach -
Beaches on Son Tra Peninsula
View of Da Nang from Nui Son Tra peninsula Around the perimeter of Son Tra Peninsula, there are several secluded beaches, some of which belong to hotels. There is no infrastructure or transport here, so you can visit them by rental vehicle or taxi, or if you stay at one of these hotels. But then you'll have to go into the city each time by taxi or rental transport.
The places here are very beautiful, and you might see monkeys. But you can't say that all the beaches here are wild. For example, at Bai Da Beach, there are SUP board rentals, boat rides, and even gazebos for rent. In our opinion, it's a good place for those who enjoy riding and searching for exotic secluded beaches.

Beaches on Hai Van Pass
View of a secret beach on the way to the pass On the peninsula where Hai Van Pass is located, there are several secluded beaches. However, some of them are unfortunately officially closed to visitors due to the danger of landslides and rockfalls, as indicated by warning signs. In practice, you can visit them, but at your own risk. Local residents visit them for fishing and also set up camps with tents. To reach them, you'll have to leave your vehicle on the road near the trailheads we've marked on the map (trail to the secret beach and trail to the secret beach), and then descend for at least 1 hour one way. You can leave your vehicle under supervision under shelters along the road near the trailheads, where locals charge 10,000 VND for this.
After passing the highest point of the pass, there's a turnoff from the main road (turnoff on the map) that leads to a village, a small waterfall, and another secret and hard-to-reach beach, Banana Beach (beach on the map). To get to Banana Beach, you need to drive to the checkpoint, where you can leave your vehicle under the guard's supervision (5,000 VND for a motorbike, 10,000 for a car), and then hike down a difficult and steep trail for about 45 minutes. However, it's not worth going to this beach just for a day of relaxation; the road is too difficult and long. But if you're a fan of camping, this is an ideal spot.

Lang Co Beach
Beach in Lang Co Lang Co Beach is located on the other side of Hai Van Pass on the way to Hue (Lang Co on the map), and is generally considered a separate tourist destination. However, you can also come here for a day trip from Da Nang. The beach cannot be called perfectly clean, and there is no infrastructure besides a few hotels and a couple of seafood restaurants. There are hotels with their own grounds and beach access, and they're not very expensive. More about Lang Co.
