Description of Da Nang Railway Station

Da Nang Station

Da Nang Railway Station (Danag Railway Station) – an important transport hub of central Vietnam. Through it, tourists get to Da Nang and Hoi An from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Hue and other tourist cities of the country. Also, the Da Nang-Hue train through the Hai Van Pass departs from here, and this section is considered the most scenic train route.

The station is located practically in the city center, at 200 Hai Phong Street (railway station on the map). The station is modern and clean, there is staff with knowledge of English. Inside there is a waiting area with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi works, an electronic queue system at ticket offices. To buy tickets, it is recommended to immediately write the destination and departure time on a piece of paper, and walk around with it to buy tickets. There is also an electronic check-in terminal to print a boarding pass for a previously purchased e-ticket, and then go to boarding. The boarding exit itself is through electronic turnstiles using boarding passes.

On Vietnamese trains, tourists often travel together with motorbikes, purchased or rented. For this, everything is provided here, and checking motorcycles and large luggage onto the train is done from a separate entrance to the left of the main entrance to the station building.

Trains in Da Nang

  • Northbound direction (odd train numbers): Hanoi, Hue, Dong Hoi, Vinh, etc. Further from Hanoi on trains with a transfer you can get to Haiphong and Halong Bay, Lao Cai and Sapa, and to cities in China.
  • Southbound direction (even train numbers): Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, etc.

Full schedule of Da Nang trains see below.

Ticket prices are divided into several categories (non-air-conditioned, air-conditioned, double compartment, etc.), and vary greatly in price. On night trains you can also save on hotel accommodation and see the country. For example, the cost of a ticket from Da Nang to Hanoi ranges from $36 to $12 depending on class, to Ho Chi Minh City you can get for $42-$14. A ticket on a slow train to Hue costs only 25,000 dong (0.95 USD, )see Vietnam currency and its exchange rate), but stops at all stops along the way and takes over 4 hours. But in general, the cost of a train is twice as expensive as a bus on a similar route. Also keep in mind that during the New Year holidays and Chinese New Year (January and February) train prices can increase up to 4 times.

Tickets for the train can be bought both at tourist offices in cities and at ticket offices at the station itself, which is cheaper. It is also now possible to book e-tickets for trains in Vietnam on the website https://12go.asia or https://dsvn.vn/. On the latter site (this is the official website of Vietnam Railways) prices are slightly lower, but the interface is half in Vietnamese, and you can pay with far from every plastic card.

How to Get There

Despite the fact that the station is located almost in the very center of Da Nang, you will have to get to hotels by transport. The fact is that Da Nang is a very large city, and the most comfortable area for tourists with hotels and My Khe beach is located five kilometers away from here (see more about hotels and districts of Da Nang).

You can get to the desired hotel in the city, airport or bus station by taxi, city buses, or rented transport. Many taxi drivers and motorbike taxi Grab drivers are always on duty at the exit of the railway station, but offer inflated prices and do not agree to trips by meter. As usual, it is better to use booking through the Grab app, for which you can use the free Wi-Fi at the station. Or you need to bargain to reasonable prices, which is from 40,000 dong (1.52 USD) for a short trip, and no more than 100,000 to the farthest hotel within Da Nang.

You can travel cheaply from the railway station by city buses, and you can even go directly to Hoi An. Bus stops are not directly at the exit of the station, but within walking distance 500 meters away on Ong Ich Khiem Street:

  • Bus No.1 (no longer runs) - to Hoi An and to Da Nang Bus Station
  • Bus No.2 - to the bus station and to Han Market
  • Bus No.4, No.6 - to the bus station
  • Bus No.12 (departs from another street) – to My Khe Beach.

Bus fare costs from 8,000 dong (0.3 USD) depending on the route, payment to the conductor on board. It is best to use the DanaBus app for route planning. Also see more about Da Nang buses...

You can also leave the station by rented transport. Right after exiting the railway station across the road to the left there is motorbike rental from 120,000 dong (4.56 USD) per day.
