Description and Is it Worth Visiting
Bang An Tower (Thap Bang An) is a unique and well-preserved ancient tower from the Champa period, built around the 11th century. It is interesting because it is considered the only surviving tower in Vietnam built in an octagonal shape. Its very structure symbolically repeats the outline of a lingam – a sacred symbol of the god Shiva, which is located inside. Thus, it is not just a historical monument, but an active place of worship. The tower, a little over 21 meters high, is located in Dien An village, on fenced grounds among residential houses, and its condition is quite good.
The tower is little-known and tourists are not frequent here. In our opinion, it's not worth making a special trip from afar – the place is quite remote, and besides the tower itself and the monument, there's not much to see. However, it can be a good short stop on the way to the famous My Son ruins. 10 minutes is enough for viewing. Please note that you can only enter the territory during opening hours, so it's better to check the visiting time in advance.
