The Independent Traveler's Main Weapon: Transport in Da Nang
Before building itineraries, let's understand what to move around on. We have tested all options.
-
🏍 Motorbike rental (the most popular option)
Gives absolute freedom. You can rent from guesthouses or street agencies (from 120,000 VND/day). What to look for: brake condition, presence of helmets (take two if with a passenger). Photograph all scratches upon receipt. Technically, an international category A license is needed, but in practice it's rarely checked in Da Nang for light bikes. For trips to the mountains (Ba Na, Hai Van), it's better to take a bike from 150cc. Everything about rental is told in a separate article, including our video with personal experience.
-
🚕 Taxi and Grab (optimal comfort)
Apps Grab, Xanh Sm, and Maxim work excellently. Prices are fixed in the app, which saves from inflated tariffs. A trip around the city will cost 30,000 - 80,000 VND. For trips to the surroundings (Hoi An, My Son), it's better to agree on a fixed price with waiting.
-
🚌 Public transport (most budget, but inconvenient)
City buses go to some attractions (Ba Na, Hoi An, Marble Mountains). Cheap, but routes are not designed for tourists — you can wait long and ride with transfers. Suitable for very economical and patient. More about Da Nang buses.

It was reopened and updated at a new location in April 2011, and since then has become one of the most interesting places in the city. Although tourists are most often recommended to visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture, we believe that both museums are worth visiting and it's difficult to choose which one is better. Our Main Tips for Independent Travelers
- Plan according to the weather. Ba Na can be foggy, Hai Van can be windy. Check the forecast. Dry season (February to August) is the best time for trips.
- Don't overestimate your strength. It's impossible to cover Ba Na, Hoi An, and Hai Van in one day. Choose 1-2 locations per day.
- Gasoline is cheap, but refuel at official stations (Petrolimex, Vietin). A full tank of a bike is enough for all trips around the surroundings.
- Parking is almost everywhere free, but at popular spots (Marble Mountains, museums) they may charge a fee (5,000 - 10,000 VND). Parking money is the only hidden cost.
- Navigator is your friend. Use Google Maps or Maps.me (works offline). Coordinates of all points are in our guide with a map.
