Da Nang is made for walking. There's no metro here, and the main pleasure is a leisurely stroll or bike ride along the ocean and river embankments, across futuristic bridges, and through colorful markets. We've walked the city far and wide and picked out the most atmospheric routes for different times of day and moods. In this guide — not just a list of places, but ready-made walking ideas that start right from the tourist area. Just leave your hotel and head in the right direction.
This guide is specifically about walking routes and pedestrian zones. If you're looking for specific attractions with history, check out our full guide.
Walk #1: Ocean embankment and My Khe Beach
Distance: From 2 to 6 km (as much as you want).
Best time: Early morning, sunset, or evening.
Start: Any beach exit from your hotel on Vo Nguyen Giap.
What awaits you: A wide, perfectly clean pedestrian and bike path that runs for many kilometers along the entire My Khe Beach. This is the main promenade artery of the resort. During the day, people sunbathe and exercise here; in the evening, families come out, and the palm trees and fountains are lit up.
Route and tips: Go in either direction. To the north, you can walk to the Son Tra peninsula (further is better by transport). To the south, the path leads to the mouth of the Han River. Along the way, you'll find cafes with a view, outdoor gym equipment, workout areas, and endless sand underfoot. It's best to walk barefoot on the beach itself at the water's edge. At sunset, photographers gather here — the view is fantastic.

Walk #2: Han River embankment and bridges (evening must-do)
Distance: About 3 km (from Sail Bridge to Dragon Bridge and back).
Best time: After 6:00 PM, when the lights come on.
Start: Sail Bridge (Tran Thi Ly Bridge). Take a taxi/Grab.
What awaits you: The liveliest and most romantic evening walk. You'll pass three futuristic bridges: Sail, Dragon, and Han River Bridge. Each is lit differently, creating a fantastic scene. Along the way — benches, heart-shaped photo spots, cafes with terraces, and a festive feel.
Route and tips: Start at Sail Bridge, walk west along the water towards Dragon Bridge. Be sure to walk across Dragon Bridge itself. If you're walking on a Friday or Saturday, plan your route so you're at the dragon's "head" (city center side) by 9:00 PM — that's when the free fire and water show starts. After the show, the crowd heads to Son Tra Night Market — you can join them.
Want to learn the history and best photo angles for each bridge? We have separate articles: Dragon Bridge and Sail Bridge.
Walk #3: Son Tra Night Market and Love Pier
Distance: 1-2 km (leisurely wandering between the rows).
Best time: 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
Start: The square at the "tail" of Dragon Bridge.
What awaits you: An atmospheric night bazaar where you can (and should) walk even without intending to buy anything. Hundreds of light bulbs, music, vendors' shouts, the smell of grilled seafood and sweets. It's not just a market, it's a whole show and a great way to spend an evening after dinner.
Route and tips: Start at Love Pier at the dragon's "tail" — take a photo by the "Dragon-Carp" fountain. Then head into the market rows. Don't buy the first thing you like — prices are inflated, bargain. Be sure to visit the food court: even if you're not hungry, the atmosphere is worth it. Be careful with children — it can get crowded.
All the details on what to buy, how to haggle, and what to try food-wise are in our full review: Son Tra Night Market.
Walk #4: Da Nang Fresco Village street art quarter
Distance: ~1 km (maze of narrow streets).
Best time: Daytime, during daylight hours.
Start: Nguyen Chi Thanh Street (near Dragon Bridge).
What awaits you: The non-touristy, authentic Da Nang. This is a residential area where the walls of old houses have been turned into a graffiti gallery. Themes include local life, Vietnam's nature, and abstractions. Quiet, few tourists, and the feeling you've found a secret spot.
Route and tips: Simply get lost in this quarter. You don't need a map — every turn reveals a new painting. Be respectful: this is someone's home, don't be loud or peek into windows. Perfect for a photo shoot. A 30-40 minute walk is enough. Afterwards, you can head out to the Han River embankment.
More photos and the story behind this unusual quarter are in our article: Da Nang Fresco Village old quarter.
Walk #5: Through non-touristy streets to Han Market
Distance: 2-3 km from the beach area.
Best time: Morning or early afternoon.
Start: Your hotel on My Khe Beach.
What awaits you: Real urban trekking. From the beach, head west on any street (e.g., Nguyen Van Linh). You'll see ordinary houses, small shops, barbershops, local cafes. The final goal is the indoor Han Market (Cho Han) on the riverbank. This isn't a scenic walk, but one to dive into the rhythm of life.
Route and tips: The walk takes 30-45 minutes one way. Along the way, pop into a local coffee shop — prices are half of what they are on the embankment. At Han Market, wander between the rows of spices, fruit, fish. Head upstairs to the food court — a great spot for an inexpensive lunch. You can return by taxi or continue walking along the river.

Walk #6: Across the bridges of Da Nang (architectural tour)
Distance: ~4 km.
Best time: Evening, to see the lights.
Start: Sail Bridge (Tran Thi Ly Bridge).
What awaits you: Da Nang is a city of bridges, and each one is a work of art. This walk lets you see and appreciate them up close, walk across them, and get the best shots.
Route:- Start at the Sail Bridge (Tran Thi Ly) — admire its leaning pylons.
- Head down to the embankment and walk west towards the Dragon Bridge. Walk across it completely, from head to tail.
- Continue along the embankment to the Han River Bridge. It's shorter, but its delicate illumination is one of the most elegant.
- If you wish, you can walk to Thuan Phuoc Bridge — Vietnam's longest suspension bridge, which leads to the Son Tra peninsula (better by transport from there).
Walk #7: March 29 Park and surroundings
Distance: 1-2 km through the park.
Best time: Morning or evening.
Start: Intersection of Dien Bien Phu and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets.
What awaits you: A green oasis in the city center. This isn't a tourist spot, but a park where Da Nang residents themselves walk, exercise, and dance. There are playgrounds, a lake, and plenty of shade. Perfect for a quiet walk when you've had enough of the ocean noise and want some open space and greenery.
Route and tips: Enter the park from any side and wander aimlessly. In the morning (from 6:00 AM), you can see groups doing tai chi and yoga. In the evening (after 6:00 PM), the park fills with families and couples.
Practical tips for walking in Da Nang
- Footwear: For embankments and bridges, any comfortable shoes will do. For market or beach walks, barefoot/sandals.
- Water and sun: During the day, be sure to bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. In the evening, a light jacket might come in handy — a breeze blows from the sea.
- Navigation: Google Maps works perfectly. But for walks along the embankments, you don't need it — just follow the water.
- Safety: Da Nang is safe for evening walks. The embankments and bridges are always busy. Take usual big city precautions.
- With kids: The best routes for walking with children are the Ocean Embankment (stroller-friendly) and March 29 Park (playgrounds).
In short: Walking in Da Nang is one of the main pleasures. The cityscape is constantly changing: from wide ocean panoramas to narrow graffiti-lined streets, from futuristic bridges to bustling markets. Don't limit yourself to one route — each shows a unique side of Da Nang. Put on comfortable shoes, grab your camera, and head out to meet a city that's made for unhurried discoveries.
