Da Nang with kids: a parent's guide to the friendliest city in Vietnam

Article and Section Navigation

Da Nang is a perfect city for a family vacation with children of any age. It has everything: long gently sloping beaches, world-class amusement parks, interactive museums, and tasty, familiar food. We traveled around Da Nang with a child (middle school age) and created this guide so you can plan a stress-free vacation. Here you'll find only proven places that will be interesting for both parents and children, as well as our life hacks on safety, food, and logistics.

The Main Thing: Da Nang beaches for children

The beach is the foundation of the vacation. Fortunately, Da Nang has one of Asia's best beaches for families.

  • My Khe Beach

Gentle slope, fine sand, and clean water — perfect for little ones

Why children will like it: Soft sand without stones or shells, a very gradual entry into the water (you have to go far to get deep). Waves are usually small. Along the entire beach stretches a wide promenade with walking and cycling paths, lawns, and playgrounds. It's safe to ride scooters or balance bikes here in the morning and evening.

Parental life hack: Bring an inflatable ring or arm floats — they are sold on every corner here. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented from vendors who approach you (bargain, starting price is about 100,000 VND for 2 sunbeds + umbrella). The best time for swimming with children is in the morning before 11:00 and after 16:00.

    🕑 When: 24/7.

💰 Cost: Free. Sunbed rental — from 50,000 VND.

📍 How to get there: If you're staying in the tourist area (Vo Nguyen Giap street area), it's a 5-10 minute walk to the beach.

TOP entertainment for kids in Da Nang

Where to take a child to see delight in their eyes. Places tested by personal experience.

  • Ba Na Hills and Golden Bridge (Sunworld Ba Na Hills)

Cable car and a bridge held by giant hands

Why children will like it: This is a whole day of adventure! Kids love the ride on one of the world's longest cable cars. At the top, a fairy-tale world awaits them: the Golden Bridge, as if from the pages of fantasy, the "French Village" with gingerbread houses, and most importantly — a huge amusement park Fantasy Park with dozens of rides (including indoor ones for little ones), a 4D cinema, mazes, and arcade games (included in the ticket).

Parental life hack: Set aside a whole day for Ba Na. Bring warm sweaters and windbreakers for the kids — at 1500 m altitude it's cool and often foggy. Arrive at opening time (8:00) to see everything. You can bring food or buy it at the top (there's fast food). For children from 1 m to 1.4 m tall — ticket discount.

🕑 Hours: Cable car from 8:00 to 22:00.

💰 Tickets: Adult ~922,000 VND, child (1m-1.4m) ~728,000 VND. Children under 1 m — free. Better to buy online on the official website (only foreign cards) or on Trip.com (Russian bank cards accepted 💳).

📍 How to get there with children: By taxi (agree on a round-trip price with waiting) or by rented car with driver. The ride from the hotel is about 40 minutes.

  • SunWorld Danang Downtown Amusement Park

Sun Wheel Ferris Wheel and rides in the city center

Why children will like it: If you can't go to Ba Na for a whole day, this park in the city center is a great alternative for the evening. Entry to the grounds is free, you only pay for the rides you want. The main hit is the huge Sun Wheel Ferris wheel with air-conditioned cabins and a view of the city at night. There are also roller coasters and carousels for little ones.

Parental life hack: Come after 17:00 when the heat subsides and the beautiful lighting turns on. Perfect for 2-3 hours of entertainment after a beach day. There are cafes and a food court nearby. For the very young (under 3) there are few attractions.

    🕑 Hours: From 15:00 to 22:00.

💰 Cost: Free entry. Rides from 35,000 to 150,000 VND. All-inclusive ticket — 250,000 VND.

📍 How to get there with children: By taxi (Grab) from the beach area in 15 minutes.

  • Son Tra Peninsula

You can meet monkeys on Son Tra

Why children will like it: There are several locations on the Son Tra Peninsula that are interesting for children. The Son Tra Marina restaurant with white and blue "Greek" architecture is a great place for photos and a boat ride (you can arrange it on the spot). And on the road to Linh Ung Pagoda, wild monkeys are often encountered, watching them is an adventure in itself.

Parental life hack: It's better to combine a trip to the peninsula: see the huge Buddha statue at Linh Ung Pagoda (kids like the scale), try to spot monkeys (don't feed or approach closely!) and end the route at the marina. Bring hats and water — there's a lot of walking.

    🕑 When: During daylight hours.

💰 Cost: Linh Ung Pagoda — free. Boat ride from the marina — from 300,000 VND per person.

📍 How to get there with children: By rented car with air conditioning or taxi with waiting. On a motorbike with a small child might be uncomfortable due to the winding road.

Educational and interactive rest

Places where children learn new things, and parents get a break from the sun.

  • Da Nang Museum (Museum of Danang)

Dioramas, models, and interactive screens — it won't be boring here

Why children will like it: This is not a boring museum, but a modern space with dioramas, models of ships and airplanes, and interactive screens. Children enjoy looking at animal taxidermy, butterfly collections, and exhibits about the war (tanks, weapons — usually a hit with boys). Air conditioning and cleanliness.

Parental life hack: Perfect plan for a rainy day or the hottest hours. Located not far from the center, can be combined with lunch. 1-1.5 hours is enough for a visit. May be less interesting for children under 6.

    🕑 Hours: From 8:00 to 17:00.

    💰 Cost: 20,000 VND (symbolic).

📍 How to get there with children: By taxi (Grab) from the beach in 15-20 minutes.

  • Marble Mountains (Am Phu Cave — Heaven and Hell)

Cave with 'hellish' and 'heavenly' sculptures — interesting for kids

Why children will like it: Am Phu Cave is a separate attraction at the foot of the Marble Mountains. Inside are sculptures depicting scenes from Buddhist hell and heaven, with light and sound effects. For children, it's like a fairy-tale cave, not scary, but rather amusing and unusual.

Parental life hack: Climbing the Marble Mountains themselves requires a lot of energy and isn't very suitable for toddlers. But visiting only the Am Phu Cave is an excellent compromise. It's small, the tour takes 20-30 minutes. Afterward, you can buy a marble souvenir in the shops at the entrance.

    🕑 Hours: From 7:00 to 17:00.

💰 Cost: 20,000 VND for the cave.

📍 How to get there with children: By taxi on the way to Hoi An. Can be combined with a trip to the ancient town.

Where to go from Da Nang with kids for a day

Nearby destinations that families will definitely enjoy.

  • Hoi An Ancient Town

Evening Hoi An with lanterns — magic for children of any age

Why children will like it: Hoi An is not a museum, but a living, bright fairy tale. During the day you can take a cyclo ride, visit craft workshops. But the main magic begins at dusk when the whole town is illuminated by thousands of colorful silk lanterns. Children are usually given a small lantern or offered to launch a sky lantern (fire balloon) — it's unforgettable. There are also many cafes with menus in Russian and familiar food (pasta, pizza, pancakes).

Parental life hack: Don't go to Hoi An during the daytime heat. Arrive after 16:00, walk in the daylight, have dinner, and wait for dark. It's better to return to Da Nang by taxi (agreeing with the driver in advance on time and meeting point).

🕑 When to go: After 16:00 to catch the evening.

💰 Cost: Entry to the old town is free. Lanterns, souvenirs, food — as desired.

📍 How to get there with children: By taxi (40 min, 300,000+ VND) or by rented car with driver for half a day.

Important tips on logistics and safety

  • Transport with children: The most convenient and safe option is taxi via apps like Grab, XanhSM or Maxim (price shown in the app, you can choose the car class, cash payment at the end). For trips to Ba Na or Hoi An, you can rent a car with a driver for the day — it's not much more expensive than a taxi but more comfortable. Renting a motorbike with a child — only if you are a very experienced rider and have a child's helmet.
  • Food: Vietnam has excellent fruits, fresh juices, and seafood. Children might like pho (noodle soup), banh mi (sandwich), fried rice, spring rolls. In the tourist area, there are many restaurants with European cuisine. Drink only bottled water.
  • First-aid kit: Be sure to bring high SPF sunscreen, mosquito repellent, plasters, fever reducers, and medication for stomach upset. There are international pharmacies in Da Nang (Pharmacity).
  • What to bring to the beach: Children's sunscreen (waterproof), hats/caps, inflatable arm floats/vest, sand toys, wet wipes, a water bottle.

Example 1-day itineraries with children of different ages

  • For toddlers (2-5 years)

Day (12:00-15:00): Lunch + quiet time/rest at the hotel.

Evening (16:00-20:00): Trip to SunWorld Downtown Park (carousels, Ferris wheel) or a walk along the promenade with ice cream.

Main point: Don't overload, keep to the schedule, and avoid the midday sun.

  • For schoolchildren (6-12 years)

Option A (active): A whole day at Ba Na Hills (cable car, Golden Bridge, Fantasy Park).

Option B (educational): Morning — Da Nang Museum. Day — beach. Evening — trip to Hoi An for lanterns.

Main point: Alternate activity and rest, give the child a choice.
