Overview of attractions and excursions on Phu Quoc, what to see
Phu Quoc Island is primarily deservedly known for its serene beach holidays and well-developed infrastructure. But besides clean beautiful beaches, the island also has some attractions. Of course, don't expect that by visiting Phu Quoc, you will be able to get to know and understand the history and culture of Vietnam to any extent, as there are almost no historical attractions and temples here. For that, you'll have to visit completely different places in the country. But still, there is a certain minimum of attractions and entertainment. And there are especially many amusement parks here, and in this regard, Phu Quoc has surpassed all other resorts in Vietnam.
One of the main attractions of the island is its nature. It amazes with its splendor and still pristine condition. Relic forests cover the mountains, which is why it is also called the "island of 99 mountains". The height of the highest peak - Chua - is 603 meters. In the north of the island is the Phu Quoc National Park reserve, occupying a large area. In 1986, it received the status of a protected area and is a habitat for 150 species of small animals, including the famous wild dogs of Phu Quoc. In addition, more than 930 species of trees grow here. You can visit some of the national park routes on your own, for example, by going to Suoi Tranh Waterfall or to the Suoi Tien stream, but we'll talk about that in more detail below.
The only historical attraction of Phu Quoc is the famous "Coconut Prison", which is definitely worth visiting. Also of interest here, you can visit several temples and a monastery, visit the private Coi Nguon Museum, go to beautiful locations like the Starfish Beach or the beach with airplanes, stroll through the colorful promenade areas of the new tourist districts Sunset Town and Grand World.

Phu Quoc Coconut Prison
Cage in the Coconut Prison This is the most tragic and sad attraction of the island. It was considered the largest prison in Southeast Asia; during its entire existence, about 32,000 prisoners passed through it. It was originally built in 1946 after the invasion of the island by the French army. Until 1975, it was successfully "filled" with prisoners with the support of US troops and government, and during this period torture and abuse were especially rampant. Today, an open-air museum-prison operates here. You can freely move around the prison territory, enter the barracks open for inspection. Scenes of torture and violence against prisoners are vividly depicted using mannequins. More about the Coconut Prison on Phu Quoc.

Coi Nguon Museum
Coi Nguon Museum on Phu Quoc This is the only local history museum on Phu Quoc. The museum is private. On 5 floors, information about the history and famous people of the island, the Vietnamese war is presented, a large section on traditional Vietnamese medicine, as well as finds and artifacts that are almost 1000 years old (fossils, shells, ceramics, bronze). Visitors are not often found here, and probably because of this, the museum space is not in the best condition. There are quite a lot of exhibits for a private collection, but they are all in a neglected state: display cases are dusty, aquarium glasses are dirty and it's hard to see what's inside. There is almost no information about the collection items, and where it exists, not all labels are duplicated in English. No tours are conducted here. More about the Coi Nguon Museum on Phu Quoc.

During the day, you can endlessly stroll along the elegant bridges connecting the banks of the canal, reminiscent of Venetian and called the Lake of Love, and if you wish, take a ride on it in a gondola boat. Fish Sauce Factories
Fish sauce production on Phu Quoc Fish sauce factories on Phu Quoc are not exactly attractions, but they are one of the places where you can get acquainted with the process of making the famous Vietnamese fish sauce Nuoc Mam. This sauce is known not only in Vietnam, but also in many countries around the world. Actually, there are several such factories on the island, as well as sauce producers. They are all located within Duong Dong city and in the center of the island, we visited at least three of them. The most famous and visited is the Khai Hoan factory, which has existed since 1975. Usually, visitors are brought here during an excursion along with pepper plantations and the pearl farm. But, of course, you need to understand that this is a purely commercial event, the purpose of which is not to show you something interesting, but to offer you to buy something. During the visit, a short tour of the production is conducted (be prepared here for a suffocating unpleasant smell), and then, of course, you will be taken to the trading hall. You can also stop by here on your own. More about the fish sauce factories on Phu Quoc.

Beach with Airplanes
Beach with Airplanes on Phu Quoc This is one of the interesting locations on Phu Quoc where you can come to take beautiful photos. Located to the west of Phu Quoc Airport, directly opposite the runway. The spectacle is very exciting! The main thing is to know the schedule of arriving planes and beautiful and effective photos are guaranteed. The schedule can be checked on the airport website, but in principle during the peak tourist season, planes land here every 20-40 minutes during the day. And while waiting for the plane, you can sunbathe on the beach or go to the nearest cafe. Also, the pearl farm is nearby, and opposite this building by the beach, a photo zone with coconut palms is equipped. More about the beach with airplanes on Phu Quoc.

Dinh Cau Temple and Lighthouse
Dinh Cau Temple and Lighthouse Dinh Cau Temple and Lighthouse is one of the popular and few attractions in Duong Dong City, the capital of Phu Quoc. The temple and lighthouse are located next to each other, essentially it's one place, so they are visited together. They were built in 1937 as a single complex for worship. The temple is small but significant for local residents, as it is dedicated to the sea goddess Thien Hau, who protects and guards fishermen and sailors. From the temple's observation deck, you can watch sunsets and views of the bay. More about Dinh Cau Temple and Lighthouse on Phu Quoc.

Sonasea Night Market
Sonasea Night Market The Sonasea Night Market is located in the relatively new tourist area Sonasea south of the airport in Duong To village with luxury hotels, villas, bungalows. So far, this area is so new that it can even be called a "ghost town". There are coffee shops and mini-shops here and there, but the epicenter of infrastructure and tourist life here is the night market or Sonasea Shopping Center. This is not quite the usual traditional Asian night market that starts working only after dark. Here it is a long promenade area with a gallery of shops and boutiques, cafes, fast food and all this works during the day as well. But the most interesting begins in the evening, with the arrival of darkness. Right on the pedestrian street, street cafes, stalls with souvenirs and goods for recreation unfold, entertainment appears and a lot of tourists flock here. It will even be interesting to come here in the evening from neighboring areas to take a walk and eat deliciously, have a little fun. More about Sonasea Night Market on Phu Quoc.

Night Market in Duong Dong
Seafood Snacks at Phu Quoc Night Market The largest tourist night market on Phu Quoc (Phu Quoc Night Market or Bach Dang Night Market) is located in Duong Dong City. The market area is not very large, mainly everything is concentrated on the main street along the river and in the alleys adjacent to it. Unlike other markets on Phu Quoc located in tourist areas, this one is more "natural" or traditional, not only tourists but also residents of Duong Dong come here in the evenings. There is everything from food to jewelry. The selection of clothing and souvenirs is mediocre, but if you wish, there will be something to choose from. But to eat something exotic and the freshest seafood, this market is definitely worth a visit. Traditional Vietnamese fast food is widely represented here, there are kebabs and barbecue, seafood, noodles, rice, desserts, drinks and much more. You can eat in a cafe or restaurant. More about the night market in Duong Dong on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily, approximately from 16:00 until midnight.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: located on Duong Ly Tu Trong Street, this is the central part of the city near the bay and fishing piers (night market on the map). City buses No. 17 and No. 19 go here. You can also park near the Dinh Cau Temple and Lighthouse and walk here along the bay embankment. Right next to the market on the main street in the evenings, a paid motorbike parking lot is set up on the sidewalk for 10,000 VND (0.38 USD).

Local Market in Duong Dong
Fruits at the local market on Phu Quoc In various sources and guidebooks, the local market in Duong Dong (Cho Duong Dong, Duong Dong Market) and the Phu Quoc night market are often mistaken for one - the Phu Quoc night market. However, these are different places, they specialize in different goods, and they work at different times. The Duong Dong Market we are talking about is a daytime market for local residents, an interesting and authentic place. Everyday products are sold here: fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, fish, shellfish, reptiles (snakes, toads). It will be interesting and useful for tourists, in terms of buying fruits, vegetables, spices. Unlike the tourist market, fruit prices are much lower. More about the night market in Duong Dong on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily, approximately from 7:00 to 17:00.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: located in the very center of the city on Duong Tran Phu Street and stretches along it for about 2 km from the bridge to the north (Local Market on the map). You can also get here by taxi or buses No. 17 and 19.

Cao Dai Temple
Cao Dai Temple on Phu Quoc Next to the night market in the center of Duong Dong is the Cao Dai Temple. The unusual architecture of the temple and bright appearance are characteristic of all temples supporting the Caodaism religion. It is widespread throughout Vietnam and is a mixture of Buddhism, Catholicism, Confucianism and Taoism. Followers conduct meditation and spiritualism rituals. It is very unusual in the Cao Dai Temple that the entrance to it passes through different gates: separately for men (on the right) and for women (on the left), there is a staircase to the second floor where you can go up. Perhaps this is not a place for mandatory visit, however, if you have the desire and time, you can stop by here before walking through the Duong Dong night market. More about Cao Dai Temple on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily, from 7:00 to 18:00.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: located in the city center on Duong Nguyen Trai Street next to the night market (Cao Dai Temple on the map). Buses No. 17 and No. 19 go here.
-
Su Muon Temple
Su Muon Temple on Phu Quoc This is one of the most interesting temples on Phu Quoc, in our opinion a must-visit. It is also called and the name is written as Su Mion, Su Mon, Hung Long Tu or Hung Long Tu. Generally, Phu Quoc cannot boast of beautiful, interesting and large-scale temples, there are very few of them, that's how it turned out historically. Su Muon is definitely one of the largest temples and the highest, because it is located on a mountainside at a height of about 50 meters. But don't worry, you won't have to walk uphill much, an asphalt road leads to the temple area. This place is known among travelers but little visited by mass tourists, and that's even good. The temple is still under construction, and it is quite possible that it will be under construction for decades. Today, several statues of Buddha and Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, a stone figure of a tiger and a dragon are placed on the territory. The main shrine of this temple is considered to be the 800-year-old konia tree (or cup tree), under which Buddha Shakyamuni meditates. More about Su Muon Temple on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily, from 7:00 to 18:00.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: located in the central part of Phu Quoc away from tourist areas (Su Muon Temple on the map). It is best to go here by taxi or rented transport, and some sightseeing tours include a visit to Su Muon. You can also get here by bus No. 20, which goes from the Grand World complex through the center of Duong Dong to the pier, but it does not pass through tourist areas. As an option, you can get to the center of Duong Dong by buses No. 17 and No. 19, and transfer there.
-
Suoi Tien Stream and Waterfall
Suoi Tien Stream and Waterfall This is a natural attraction on Phu Quoc, a beautiful and quiet place where you can relax, sunbathe and swim in the refreshing clean water of a stream fed by underground springs. This is one of the cool little-touristy places on the island, which we definitely recommend visiting to all lovers of little-traveled tourist routes. Groups of tourists are not brought here, so mostly independent travelers who are willing to rent transport get here. Suoi Tien is one of the favorite places of locals for outdoor recreation and family picnics, and for tourists it is also an opportunity to walk through the tropical forest. More about Suoi Tien Stream and Waterfall on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily, during daylight hours.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free entrance, parking 10,000 VND (0.38 USD).
🚶 How to get there: located away from tourist areas in a sparsely populated part of the island among forests (Suoi Tien on the map). There is not even a normal asphalt road here, part of the way you will have to drive on a dirt road, and in bad weather through puddles and mud. Read more in the full description of the attraction at the link.
-
Suoi Tranh Waterfall and Park
Suoi Tranh Waterfall This is one of the not very popular natural tourist spots on Phu Quoc Island, but in our opinion, definitely worth a visit. Actually, these are two attractions in one, visited with a single entrance fee. After entering, you will first find yourself in a large thematic sculpture park with traditional buildings, and then along the trail you can reach a small waterfall with a natural pool for swimming, where you can cool off from the tropical heat in the waters of a stream fed by underground springs. The waterfall itself is not high, just over 3 meters. The park is interesting and worthy of attention, especially for those who love to take pictures. More about Suoi Tranh Waterfall and Park on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: daily, from 7:00 to 17:00. During the dry season (January to April), the water level decreases, the waterfall may dry up.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: 30,000 VND (1.14 USD).
🚶 How to get there: located in the central part of Phu Quoc near the airport (Suoi Tranh on the map). A good asphalt road leads to the entrance to the park, you can easily get here by rented transport or taxi (50,000 – 200,000 VND when ordering through apps), parking is free. You can also get here by free (for now) bus No. 20 from the Grand World area and the center of Duong Dong.
-
Suoi Da Ban Waterfall and Spring
Suoi Da Ban Waterfall and Spring This is another place on Phu Quoc where you can come to relax during the day and refresh yourself in cool water. True, this may not work during the dry season from December to April, since during this time the underground streams that feed the Da Ban stream may completely disappear, respectively, there will be no waterfall. But if you are vacationing outside of this season, you can come here to relax for a few hours or a whole day. There is a resting place nearby and a spacious natural pool for swimming. The water in it is not that cold, but it feels very refreshing in the heat. There is no infrastructure nearby, the places are remote, so if you want to stay here and have a picnic, bring everything with you. More about Suoi Tranh Waterfall and Park on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: 24/7, better to visit during the day.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free entrance. Parking at the entrance is 10,000 VND (0.38 USD).
🚶 How to get there: located in the central part of Phu Quoc in places where few tourists reach (spring on the map). You can only get here by rented transport, even taxis don't agree to go here for the usual fare, they ask for double the price. You need to drive by navigator to the point indicated on our map. Then you can walk along the trail along the stream through the forest, the path is not difficult. Actually, there are many miniature waterfalls and water slides and several swimming pools here. The further you go from the parking lot, the more deserted the places will be. Near the parking lot, you may be met by local children who will offer guide services (about 100,000 VND), but if you are at least a little oriented on the terrain, you can do without their help.
-
Ho Chi Minh Square and the Old Airport
Ho Chi Minh Square and the Old Airport This is a completely new attraction on Phu Quoc, located in the center of Duong Dong City in the area of the former airport. Few people know about it yet, because the opening of the grandiose monument took place on May 19, 2024, on the birthday of the outstanding Vietnamese leader. The statue of Uncle Ho, 20.7 meters high, is located at the end of the former runway of the old airport in the middle of a huge square. Behind the statue are large relief panels depicting the main moments from the history of southern Vietnam. There is also a small museum on the square. More about Ho Chi Minh Square and the Old Airport on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: square - 24/7. Information about the museum and temple opening hours is not yet available.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: located in Phu Quoc's main city, Duong Dong (Ho Chi Minh Square and the Old Airport on the map). It is most convenient to come here by rented transport or taxi, but you can also get here by city buses No. 17, 19 or 20.

Viewpoint on Tien Son Mountain (Tien Son Dinh)
Viewpoint on Tien Son Mountain A popular mountain peak Tien Son Dinh among advanced tourists and local vacationers on Phu Quoc is one of the natural attractions of the island. Its height is no more than 500 meters above sea level, and almost at the very top there is a magnificent viewpoint with views of both coasts of Phu Quoc at once. The ascent is of medium difficulty, takes from 30 minutes to 1 hour one way depending on physical fitness, and for the entire route there and back with rest at the top, it is better to plan 3 hours. We do not recommend going with small children or if you are in unsatisfactory physical shape. Although the route is not very physically difficult, nevertheless in some places along the way there are very steep climbs, and almost all the way you will have to climb over stones and tree roots. Hon Mot Island
Hon Mot Island This is a tiny island off the northeastern coast of Phu Quoc, located just 100 meters from the shore. It is so small that you can walk around it in 5 minutes. And it is notable for being the most accessible island near Phu Quoc, because you can get to it on foot via a wooden bridge. In some guidebooks and on shitty websites, Hon Mot Island is described as a paradise island, a corner with pristine nature and the cleanest beaches. But in reality, everything is not like that at all, but quite the opposite! In fact, nature here is far from ideal, and there is no beach at all. But worst of all, the island is so littered that it has even received the folk nickname "garbage island". It is definitely not worth going here specifically, unless you are passing by. More about Hon Mot Island on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: 24/7, better to visit during the day.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: located in the north of Phu Quoc on the eastern side (Hon Mot on the map). This is a non-tourist part of the island, one of the farthest. For example, from Long Beach it is 30 kilometers or 1 hour drive. You can only get here by taxi or rented transport, public transport and excursions do not go here.

Duong Dong Catholic Church
Duong Dong Catholic Church The largest Catholic church, which is located in the center of Duong Dong City. Not to say that this is a popular tourist place, but if you are nearby, it is worth stopping by. The Duong Dong Catholic Church is quite large, in typical European architecture, and looks beautiful from the outside.
Masses are held on weekdays 2 times a day (at 5 am and at 6 pm), on Sundays 4 times a day (in the morning at 5.00 and 7.00, in the evening at 16.00 and 18.00). At other times, the doors are closed and you will not be able to get inside.

Starfish Beach
Starfish Beach This is one of the most picturesque attractions of Phu Quoc, and perhaps even the most beautiful beach on the island. In our opinion, it is definitely worth visiting here. You can get here by rented transport or as part of a sightseeing tour of the island that includes a stop at this beach. True, there are peculiarities when visiting, everyone here tries to scam you into a paid boat ride, but in fact, you can visit Starfish Beach completely free of charge. It has gained its popularity for a reason: there is white sand, very clear water and an abundance of large starfish. There are hundreds of starfish here, all lying on the bottom close to the shore. You can look at them through the clear water for hours, and swimming in the warm clear water here is simply a delight. More about Starfish Beach on Phu Quoc.
Practical Information
🕐 Opening hours: 24/7, better to visit during the day.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free; sunbed and umbrella rental on the beach (optional) – 50,000 VND (1.9 USD); boat rental to the beach (optional) – 100,000 VND per person round trip (3.8 USD).
🚶 How to get there: located in the north of the island away from tourist areas, this is generally one of the most remote places (Starfish Beach on the map). For example, from Long Beach it is 30 kilometers, about an hour's drive. Moreover, the road for the last 8 kilometers here is very bad, not every driver will drive on it in a passenger car in bad weather. No problem to get there by motorbike. At the end of 2024, road repairs were carried out here in sections, asphalt was laid, so perhaps when you visit Starfish Beach, the road will already be made. Kiss Bridge
Kiss Bridge / photo from sunsettown.com.vn/ This is a new tourist location in the new tourist city of Sunset Town on the coast, a local highlight for lovers of romantic walks and beautiful photos. It will be pleasant to watch the sunset and walk along the bridge not only for lovers but also for sentimental romantics. The place is interesting and unlike other bridges, but to be honest, you shouldn't expect anything special from it either, especially since the entrance to it is paid. The length of the promenade area is just over 800 meters, the bridge consists of two parts. One part is a single straight bridge, and the second is divided into two spans that are directed towards each other but do not meet, leaving a space of 50 meters between them. Also, daily at 18:00 in the bridge area, the captivating water show Love Hurricane is held, created by professional athletes and including various tricks created using jet skis and flyboards.
