We have toured all the famous Fukukoa night markets and now we can say with confidence: they are completely different! Some are surprised by the authenticity and choice of food, others by the atmosphere and cleanliness, and others by the modern approach. In this guide, we will not just list the markets, but honestly tell you which one to choose depending on what you are looking for.
If after reading you want to study a particular market in more detail, we have separate guides for each of them, you will find them by their names. And this article is your navigator in the world of Phu Quoc street food and shopping.
Duong Dong Night Market: the most authentic
This is the market you imagine when you think about Vietnam. Narrow streets, smells of fried seafood, noise of merchants and crowds of people. We came here almost every evening — such an incredible choice of food here!
What impressed us:
- A huge selection of seafood — shrimp, squid, fish, crabs. Everything is fresh, you choose it directly from the aquarium and after 15 minutes you get it on the table.
- The atmosphere of real Asia — noisy, crowded, but very authentic. Not only tourists come here, but also locals.
- You can bargain — the prices are initially too high, but if you persevere, you can bring them down by 20-30%.
- Convenient location — after dinner you can walk to the Dinh Kau Temple or along the embankment.
What disappointed:
- The prices are the highest on the island. Without haggling, you can overpay a lot.
- Very crowded — during peak hours from 19:00 to 21:00 it is literally impossible to get through.
- Intrusive merchants — constantly trying to drag you into your restaurant.
💡 Our verdict: Ideal for gourmets who are ready for an authentic, though not the most comfortable experience. The best place to try seafood.
🕐 Opening hours: daily, approximately from 16:00 to midnight.
💵 Approximate prices: grilled shrimp — from 150,000 VND, beer — 25,000-35,000 VND, fo soup — 60,000-80,000 VND.
🚶 How to get there: Duong Dong center, Duong Ly Tu Trong and Duong Bach Dang streets (market on the map). Buses No. 17 and No. 19. For more information, see a separate guide to the Duong Dong market.
Sonasi Night Market (Sonasea): the most modern
A completely different experience! Sonasea is not a classic night market, but rather a walking area with shops and cafes, which turns into a tourist attraction in the evening. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and organization.
What you liked:
- Cleanliness and order — after the chaos of Duong Dong, you feel more comfortable here.
- Spacious — there is no jostling, you can safely walk with the children.
- It also works during the day — you can come early, have a quiet dinner and wait for the evening atmosphere.
- There is entertainment — in addition to food and shopping, there is music, sometimes artists perform.
Which is not very:
- Less authenticity — it feels like this place was created for tourists.
- Prices are too high — payment for comfort and cleanliness.
- Less choice of seafood — emphasis on fast food and restaurant food.
💡 Our verdict: Great for families with children or those who are tired of the chaos of traditional Asian markets. Is comfort more important than authenticity? Here you are!
🕐 Opening hours: cafes and shops are open during the day, evening program from 18:00 to 24:00.
💵 Approximate prices: rice dishes — from 80 000 VND, burgers — 60 000-90 000 VND, cocktails — 70 000-120 000 VND.
🚶 How to get there: Sonasea district, Duong To village (Sonasea market on the map). Bus number 19 from Duong Dong. For more information, see a separate guide to the Sonasea market.
Vui-Fest Bazaar Sunset Town Night Market: the most stylish
Phu Quoc's newest and perhaps most photogenic market. It is located in the fashionable Sunset Town district, and it is felt in everything — from the design of the trays to the general design.
What surprised us:
- Unexpectedly affordable prices — we expected sky-high prices in such a glamorous place, but it turned out that it's even cheaper here than in Duong Dong!
- Amazing atmosphere — beautiful lighting, music, sea view. The perfect place for a romantic walk.
- Conveniently located — if you are staying in Sunset Town, this is your main evening route.
- Clean and safe — the European approach to the organization is felt.
Cons:
- Not such a big choice as in Duong Dong.
- Too far if you live in other areas.
- Less authenticity — everything is too nice and correct.
💡 Our verdict: The best choice for those who appreciate atmosphere and comfort. Ideal for romantic evenings and photo shoots. Surprisingly, here are the most honest prices!
🕐 Opening hours: from 17:00 to midnight.
💵 Approximate prices: simple dishes with rice — from 60,000 VND, grilled sausage — from 15,000 VND, beer — from 20,000 VND.
🚶 How to get there: Sunset Town Promenade (Sunset Town market on the map). For more information, see a separate guide to the Sunset Town market.

Our tips for visiting night markets
- Come hungry, but not empty — take cash, cards are not accepted everywhere. Small bills are more convenient for calculations.
- Bargain in Duong Dong — feel free to bring down the price by 30%. Smile — it's a game!
- Try street food — don't be afraid of street food. Everything is prepared with you, usually very fresh.
- Go against the crowd — come either to the opening (18:00), or after 21:30, when the main wave of tourists disperses. Then you will be able to save money, and you will not push.
- Combine with other activities — for example, the market in Duong Dong is ideally combined with a visit to the Dinh Kau Temple at sunset.
- Drink bottled water — and wash your hands before eating. It's better to be safe.
Results: our personal rating
If we were asked which market to choose with limited time, this is how we would prioritize:
- Duong Dong — if you want a real Vietnamese experience and are ready for chaos for the sake of great food.
- Sunset Town — for a romantic evening or if you are staying in the area.
- Sonasea — if you are traveling with children or tired of the tourist bustle.
But ideally — visit all three! Each of them gives a unique experience. For example, we managed to visit each one in one trip and never regretted it.

P.S. Do not forget to try the local fish sauce nyok mom. It can be bought at any of the markets, but the best prices are in specialized stores, not tourist shops.
