Description and is it worth a visit
Hon Mot Island is a tiny island off the northeast coast of Phu Quoc, located just 100 meters from the shore. It is so small that it can be bypassed in 5 minutes. And it is notable for being the most easily accessible island near Phu Quoc, because you can get to it on foot via a wooden bridge.
In some guidebooks and on shitsites, the island of Hong Mot is described as a paradise island, a corner with pristine nature and the cleanest beaches. But in reality, everything is not like that at all, but just the opposite! In fact, the nature here is far from ideal, and there is no beach at all. But the worst thing is that the island is so littered that it even got the popular nickname "garbage island".
This is not a place to relax at all, but as a tourist attraction, this island will be interesting only to the most inquisitive lovers of unexplored hiking trails, because it is located very far from tourist areas, and you can only get here by taxi or rented transport. It's definitely not worth going specifically here, except if you drive by.
Local residents are engaged in fishing on and near Khon Mot. They say that part of the island's territory belongs to a poor family, which is engaged in growing vegetables and fishing here. But when we were here, apart from the fishing shack, we didn't see any hint of economic activity, and there were no fences protecting private territory either. If you go through the entire island to the farthest edge from the shore, you will see a kind of cafe there, focused on locals, without menus and tables. The island attracts only local guys who come for picnics, while the results of these gatherings are visible everywhere - garbage and dirt.
We will not recommend going to Hong Mot on purpose, because it's a long way to go, and there's nothing to see from the word "at all". Only if you have already looked at everything in Phu Quoc, or you will go in passing, on the way to other attractions, you can look here to take beautiful photos with a view of the island itself. Well, this place can also be recommended for relaxing with your own equipment (tent, sleeping bag), food and water. It seems that you can go fishing or snorkeling here, but in our opinion, this is not a good idea.
