General information

Krabi Province (Krabi prvonce) is a province in southern Thailand, a popular place for beach holidays. The area of the province is 4,708 square kilometers, which is almost 10 times smaller than the Moscow region, and the population of the entire province is only 440,000 people. Until now, on the Internet on some tourist sites you can find a mention of the island of Krabi in Thailand. In fact, there is no such thing as Krabi Island, these are just inventions of travel agencies and websites that repost unverified information from each other. There is only the province of Krabi and the city of Krabi (Krabi Town), which is the capital of the province.

Krabi has a special place among resorts of Thailand. This place is not yet too popular and is visited by tourists. Here you can still find untouched corners of nature, residents who are not spoiled by tourists, wild desert beaches. But every year there are fewer and fewer such places. Tourists are gradually mastering the province, and a considerable place among them is occupied by Russians and citizens of the CIS countries.

Despite this, the tourist infrastructure in the province is well developed and is growing every day. There are several resort places here, the main occupation of local residents in which is the service of tourists. Among them are Ao Nang Beach, Krabi Town, Lanta Island, Phi Phi Island, Railay Beach and others. All conditions for a carefree tourist holiday have been created in these places: there are a lot of hotels, bars and restaurants, entertainment, excursions are offered.

The province cannot boast of historical sights, there are no bright historical or cultural monuments here. But the hallmark of the province is its natural beauty. There are several national parks, wonderful beaches, a huge number of islands, picturesque cliffs and mountains, tropical forests, caves, waterfalls, hot springs. The main type of recreation is beach, which is diluted with more active types of recreation, such as diving, snorkeling, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, etc. Among the guests of the province there are often "winterers" who come to Krabi for several months to overwinter.

The main resort places of Krabi

• Krabi town. The capital of the province. An unattractive place for traditional beachgoers. No beaches, minimum attractions. The advantages of the place are low prices for accommodation, food and manufactured goods, the presence of large shops, a transport hub. Maxim usually stays here for a day or two.
• Ao Nang. The most developed beach resort in the province. There is everything you need for a beach holiday, except perfect beaches. The beach here is average. Nightlife and entertainment are poorly developed, but this is the best that there is in the province.
• Nopparat Thara beach - This two-kilometer beach and independent tourist area is a continuation of Ao Nang, but more deserted and beautiful. Not very suitable for swimming.
• Railay (Railay, Rai Leh) is a peninsula near Ao Nang with its tourist area and beautiful beaches of Railay West, Railay East, Phra Nang and Tonsai. All these beaches are united by the fact that they can only be reached by boat.
• Ao Nammao Beach. This is a quiet rural area with a minimum of infrastructure, not the best beach, but low housing prices.
• The Island of Pi Pi (Ko Phi Phi)
• The island of Lanta (Ko Lanta) is a wonderful resort combining a developed infrastructure and a peaceful environment. It's not as noisy here as on Phi Phi, but very long and beautiful beaches.

Weather, tourist seasons in Krabi province

The province is suitable for recreation all year round, it is always hot here.

High season and the ideal time falls on the period from November to May. This is a dry season, and at the same time cooler.

Low season runs from June to October. At this time, a significant amount of precipitation falls, South-Westerly winds blow. Even at this time, you can relax here, only with less comfort, but prices drop by almost half compared to the high season.

How to get to Krabi

In the province of Krabi is the international airport of Krabi (Krabi International Airport, KBV). International flights from neighboring Asian countries are operated to it, but from Russia and the CIS countries it can only be reached with a transfer. Most often, a transplant is done in Bangkok, and it is most profitable after arriving at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport to move by shuttle bus or taxi to the old airport Don Mueang, and there to board a flight of budget airlines AirAsia, LionAir or NokAir (see all airlines of Thailand). If such transfers do not suit you, then you can pick up a ready-made flight immediately with transfers from Russia and other countries.

It is much cheaper to get from Bangkok and other resorts and cities of Thailand to Krabi by bus. Most intercity buses to the province arrive at the main bus station Talad Kao, which is located a few kilometers from the center of Krabi Town, but there are direct flights to Ao Nang and Lanta Island. You can get here at least from Bangkok, Hua Hin, Suratthani (here is the most convenient railway station), from Phuket Island (by minivan), Koh Samui (ferry+bus). Buses do not go here from Pattaya, Chiang Mai and other cities of the north, you will need to transfer via Bangkok.

If you prefer to travel by train, then you can get here by rail, although it does not pass directly through Krabi. From Bangkok, Hua Hin, other cities of the north with a transfer in Bangkok, you can get to Surat Thani, and then right at the railway station there is a bus to Krabi for 200 baht, 3-4 hours on the way. You can also take the train from Malaysia and Singapore but to the city of Trang. Buses depart from Trang every hour, 45 minutes on the way, 121 baht.

From Phuket and Lipe Island by ferry/boat you can get to the islands of Lanta and Phi Phi, to the Klong Jilad Pier in Krabi Town, and to the Nopparat Thara pier in Ao Nang.

Attractions in Krabi, what to see

Both throughout the province of Krabi and at its individual resorts, there are many interesting sights scattered. These are mainly natural places, such as caves, hot springs, rocks and mountains, beaches, waterfalls, underwater world. But there are also several historical and cultural attractions, in particular, the very famous Tiger Temple Wat Tham Suea, the mountains and caves of Khao Kanab Nam, Wat Kaew Korawaram temple. A special place among all the attractions is occupied by hot springs, which are not only interesting to visit, but also useful and pleasant. Well, you should definitely see the famous emerald, blue and crystal lakes.

It is easiest to visit the sights in Krabi as part of ready-made excursions, which are sold everywhere and are inexpensive. If you prefer to explore interesting places on your own, you can rent a motorcycle or hire a taxi. But you will still have to visit the islands with the help of excursions, since hiring an individual boat will be too expensive.
