Unlike other popular resorts in Thailand, there is no abundance of entertainment on the beaches of Krabi (jet skis, bananas, parachutes, etc.) and developed infrastructure in the form of cafes, sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, which makes the beaches seem even more untouched. Even on the most popular beach of the province – Ao Nang, you will find nothing but sand, water and palm trees, since everything else is forbidden. But the problem with the lack of sun loungers and umbrellas is solved easily with a blanket or an air mattress, and of course the shade of the trees. In extreme cases, you can bring an umbrella with you.
Here is an overview of the most popular resorts and beaches of the mainland of Krabi province:
Krabi town
Krabi town on the provincial map
The city of Krabi or Krabi Town is the capital of the province. It is a small town with a population of just over 25,000 people, located on the banks of the Krabi River off the coast of the Andaman Sea. At first glance, it is not of particular interest to tourists as an independent tourist destination. There are no beaches, no special entertainment, no large number of interesting sights. He is very provincial, and after 19 hours almost all goes to sleep. However, tourists are frequent visitors to the town, as it is the main transport gateway to the province. It is also convenient to use the city as a starting point for trips to the sights of the province, for which you can rent a motorcycle or buy excursions. Here you can see several interesting places: temples, rocks and caves of Khao Kanab Nam, a promenade with sculptures, a very colorful night market and even a tourist pedestrian street.

Ao Nammao
Nammao Ao on the map of the province
The beach and Ao Nammao district are located between Ao Nang and Krabi Town, but the road between these cities does not pass through it, because it is a dead-end area, or rather even a village. And the situation here is appropriate: silence and desolation, almost no infrastructure, and completely deserted beaches.
But there are no people here, not because it is inconvenient to get here, but because the beaches here are below average in quality. The bottom here is not suitable for swimming, during low tide logs, concrete piles, stones appear from under the water. Mangroves approach almost to the water itself, which is why at high tide the beach turns into a narrow strip, and in some places it completely disappears. In general, we would not recommend choosing Ao Nammao for a holiday if beach holidays are in the first place for you. The only advantage of this area is low prices for accommodation.

Ao Nang
Ao Nang is the most developed and popular resort area in the province of Krabi. It is also accepted to include the beaches of Nopparat Tara (Ao Nopparat Tara Beach), Ao Nammao (Ao Nammao), Railay, Pranang (Phra Nang) and Ton Sai.
There are many hotels, cafes, restaurants, travel agencies. There is always something to do, including in the evenings. Of course, this is far from Walking Street in Pattaya, but you can find bars with girls working late here.
As for the beach itself, it is not the best here. The influence of the tides is strong, the water goes far away. And at high tide, the strip of sand is very narrow in some places. A noisy road runs along the entire length along the coast, which is separated from the sand by a promenade several meters wide. And yet, there is no entertainment on the beach from the category of bananas and jet skis here, they are prohibited. There are not even umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. You can sunbathe on your towel or air mattress, and hide from the sun in the shade of trees.

Nopparat Thara (Hat Nopparat Thara)
Nopparat Thara on the map of the province
Nopparat Thara Beach adjoins Ao Nang from the north-west side. So far, it is considered more natural and untouched than Ao Nang, but every year it becomes more and more like a noisy developed resort.
The beach here is not very suitable for swimming because of the shallow depth, clay bottom, and water far away from the shore at low tide. In addition, the water here is even more turbid than on Ao Nang. But still it has its charms: it is more beautiful, and very deserted. Entertainments like jet skis and bananas are prohibited here, since this is the territory of a national park. There are no umbrellas and sun loungers for rent either.
The infrastructure in the Nopparat Tara area is mainly developed only in the eastern part, which is closer to Ao Nang. There are hotels, shops, travel agencies and even a promenade. If you decide to stay here, we would advise you to choose a hotel with a swimming pool, as swimming here, despite all the beauty, is not very convenient.

Long Beach Beach (Long Beach)
Long Beach on the provincial map
Further after Nopparat Thara, Long Beach stretches for 2 kilometers across the river. It is very similar to Nopparat Thara, i.e. the same picturesque and even more untouched, but at the same time completely deserted. There is nothing here except a few hotels consisting of bungalows. There is not even a run-down shop or cafe here, everything is only at hotels.
You can get here only by rented transport or tuk-tuk.
Centara Hotel Beach
Centara Beach on the map of the province
The beach of the Centara Hotel (Centara Grand Beach Resort, also Pai Plong) is small, about 200 meters. It is located in an isolated bay near the main beach of Ao Nang, and you can only get to it on foot along a mountain path or by boat. Although it is considered a hotel beach, in fact anyone can get here, because according to Thai laws, all beaches are public, and no one can restrict access to them. But the hotel staff keep the beach in perfect cleanliness, as befits the "five". There are few people here. Cons of the beach: sunbeds and umbrellas can only be used by hotel guests; prices in the only restaurant at the hotel are very high.
Ideally, it will be if you can stay at the hotel and enjoy all the delights of this beautiful beach at any time. Centara Grand Beach Resort is not a cheap hotel, it is better to book it in advance. But even if you can't stay there, it won't be difficult to get to the beach to spend time there during the day. The easiest way to do this is by boat (for 100 baht) or kayak, but you can also walk: you need to walk to the southeastern edge of Ao Nang beach (to the left), then along the path equipped with wooden stairs through the mountain and forest. The walking path does not require special training, but you will have to climb up and go down steep steps, and even surrounded by monkeys, with whom you should not flirt. The journey will take 10-20 minutes. When entering the beach, you must register in the hotel magazine, but they do not charge an entrance fee, this is prohibited by law. It is better to bring drinks and food with you, it is fabulously expensive here by Thai standards.

The beaches of the Reilly Peninsula
Southeast of Ao Nang is the Railay Peninsula. It has formed its own resort area, and there are several beaches at once: Tonsai, West Railay, Phra Nang and East Railay.
You can only get to them by boat. From Ao Nang and from the pier of Ao Namma, traditional long-tailed boats depart according to occupancy, the cost is 100 baht. You can walk between the beaches.

Ton Sai
Tonsai Beach is located next to the beach of the hotel Center, and this is another isolated bay, and just as wonderful. Only to get here from the mainland, as to the Centara hotel, will no longer work: you can only get there by boat or from the west Rail on foot through the jungle or at low tide along the shore.
Unlike Centara Beach, this is a much more inexpensive place. There are several inexpensive hotels and bungalows, the atmosphere is more relaxed, like in a hippie commune. After a few days of your stay, you will know everyone and feel at home, so Tonsai has become a favorite destination for young people, and especially for backpackers who are ready to overpay a little for a vacation in this isolated paradise. But in general, of course, the prices for Tonsai are higher than on the "mainland", because everything is delivered by boat.

West Railay (West Railay, West Rai Leh)
West Railay West Railay on the provincial map
The main beach of the resort of Railay, one of the most beautiful in the province. Cafes and restaurants of the district are concentrated here, tourists spend most of their time here, because there is nowhere else to do at the resort. Approximately in the middle of the beach, the local Waking Street goes deep into the area – the main street with shops, travel agencies, cafes. A couple of hotels have equipped their pools directly overlooking the beach. In general - a heavenly place, wonderful views.
But there are also downsides: Reilly's fame has far outstripped his size, and a lot of "beachgoers" from Ao Nang and Krabi Town arrive here for a day in season. At low tide, the water goes far away, it becomes shallow, it is impossible to swim. The prices for everything are high. There is no water entertainment (only kayak rental), as there are no sun loungers and umbrellas, and shade is in short supply.

Phra Nang Beach
Phra Nang Phra Nang on the provincial map
If you really have to look for a heavenly place, it's here. Phra Nang is among the most beautiful in the world, and definitely the most beautiful in the province. There is no infrastructure and hotels here (the nearest hotels are a 10-minute walk on the East Rail), only food and drinks are sold from boats, and there is nothing else but snow-white sand, emerald water and beautiful landscapes. But what's bad, as well as on the western Rail, a lot of "guest performers" from Ao Nang come here during the day. And again, there are no sun loungers and umbrellas, there is little shade.
Swimming here is a pleasure, even at low tide. At the entrance to the beach there is a large rock in which there is an interesting Princess cave. Also there you can wander or swim with a mask around the rocks and see underwater wildlife.
You can get here from the east and west Rail on foot, from Ao Nang by boat for 100 baht (3.07 USD).

East Railay
East Railay East Railay on the provincial map
Unsuitable place for swimming. Boats dock here, at low tide the water goes very far, and the bottom is muddy. However, most of the hotels on the Railay Peninsula are located along this coast. If you stay in one of them, don't even expect to sunbathe and swim here. Fortunately, it is a 10-minute walk to West Railay or Phra Nang.
