Don Mueang Airport, flights and flights
Don Mueang International Airport (Don Mueang, Don Mueang, IATA code - DMK) is Bangkok's old airport. Before the commissioning of the new Suvarnabhumi Airport, all international flights arrived here, today budget airlines Nok Air, Orient Thai and Air Asia, etc. are based here, as well as charter flights. Therefore, be careful when buying connecting flights through Bangkok, so as not to find yourself in a situation where your plane does not fly from the airport you arrived at. If you have a change of airport, it is better to put at least 4 hours between flights, taking into account that:
- Passport control, baggage collection and customs control after arrival – at least 1 hour;
- Transfer to another airport – an hour and a half;
- Check–in for a flight at another airport takes an hour and a half.
Keep in mind that in case of a delay in the flight by which you arrive, with a short docking time, the airline will not be responsible for your delay on another flight, the tickets will simply disappear.
You can find and book flights to Bangkok, and in particular to Don Mueang Airport, using the search form below, or on the websites of budget airlines Air Asia, Nok Air, Orient Thai, Tha Lion Air, Siam Air Transport, Nokscoot, Malindo Air, Thai Smile Airways, Sabaidee Airways, Orientthai Airlines, etc.:

Planning and arrangement of Don Mueang airport
The airport is small and very simple, without numerous levels and crowds of passengers. In 2019, systems for fingerprint scanning and facial recognition for all international passengers were launched in Don Muang. The procedure takes a few seconds. In general, everything is organized well and quickly, but sometimes insignificant queues gather at security control or international passport control. There is all the necessary tourist infrastructure:
- Passport and customs control, visa on arrival
- Vat Refund
- Currency exchange
- Taxi stands
- Car rental
- Tourist Information and hotel Booking desk
- Sale of SIM cards
- Luggage storage (on the second floor, from 75 baht/day). You can also leave your luggage for storage at the Don Muang railway station, which is located next to the road by the crossing, from just 10 baht (0.3 USD, see Thailand's currency and exchange rate).
- International phone number
- Free Wi-Fi (available when registering online by phone number and passport number)
There is a domestic airline terminal (Terminal 2) and an international one (Terminal 1), and they have different entrances. But in fact they are in the same building and there is no separation between them. If you need to get from one terminal to another, you can simply go inside the building. The check-in counters are located on the third floor.

Currency exchange at Don Mueang Airport
The airport has several exchange offices in the arrivals area. The rate is quite acceptable for exchanging money for the first time of stay, but slightly lower than in the city. For example, on one day (2018), the exchange rate at the airport is 30.11 baht per dollar, at exchange offices in the city 31 baht per dollar, i.e. the difference when exchanging $ 100 would be 89 baht. The exchange rate in all airport exchangers is the same, but it is better to change not in the international zone, but after passing through passport control.
Market exchange rate (Thai baht) for today ()
- 100 бат (THB) = 231,33 rubles (RUB)
- 1 US dollar (USD) = 33,33 THB
- 100 rubles (RUB) = 43,23 THB
- 1 euro (EUR) = 38,12 THB
Real currency exchange rate *
- 1 US dollar (USD) ≈ 32,66 - 33,26 THB
- 1 euro (EUR) ≈ 37,36 - 38,04 THB
* - The real exchange rate is calculated taking into account the fees charged by exchange offices and banks for the exchange. It can also be higher than the calculated one, but if you are offered an exchange rate lower than this, it's a reason to think about finding another place to exchange.
* - With the widget enabled, the exchange rate of the selected currency will be displayed in the right sidebar on every page of the site until you disable it yourself.
Free WiFi Internet at Don Mueang Airport
There is a free WiFi network in the arrival and departure area. To connect, select the AIS network or Donmueang_freewifi, and go through a simple registration with the phone number and passport number. You can register not only with local phone numbers, but also with foreign ones, as well as enter a passport number. When entering the phone number of Russian operators + 7 is not necessary to enter.

- Time spent: 40-60 minutes
A taxi ride will cost from 250 to 600 baht depending on the destination. It is better to use a taxi ordered at the counter in the terminal, in which case the trip will be on the counter. You can also order a car through the Grab app (this is an analogue of Uber, which does not work in Thailand). Then you will immediately see the cost when ordering, and you can even pay online. Prices through Grab are very low. For ordering, you can use the free Wi-Fi at the airport.
If you "Catch" a taxi in the parking lot when exiting the terminal, you will be offered a ride at a fixed price, which is usually two to three times higher than the meter.

You can also rent a car in Bangkok itself or at other resorts. It is better to book a car in advance via the Internet. You can find and book a car for rent through one of the price comparison services from different rental companies:
To drive a car in Thailand, tourists no longer need to obtain an international driver's license (IDP). On May 1, 2021, the long-awaited event finally took place - Thailand ratified the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, which it initially joined back in 1968. And now in Thailand, theoretically, it is possible to manage rented transport using ordinary Russian rights. However, so far in Thailand there has not been a practice of adopting national VUS on the roads by police officers, therefore, in order not to finish off our rightness every time, we still recommend that you additionally issue an IDP.
