General information about Koh Kood Island
Ko Kut Island (Ko Kut, Koh Kood) is an island in the Gulf of Thailand in the province of Trat near the border with Cambodia (Ko Kood on the map). The island of Kood is part of Chang Archipelago (Koh Chang), is a popular tourist destination. Koh Kood is not the smallest island in size Thailand (fourth largest, 22 by 8 kilometers), but only 2,000 residents live here permanently, most of whom work in tourism. Almost all of its territory is covered with jungle, the terrain is slightly hilly with a highest point of 315 meters.
Kood Island is still considered one of the most beautiful in Thailand. "For now" because in recent years it has been developing very rapidly and being built up, gradually turning from an underdeveloped pristine island into a tourist center. Therefore, if you want to get to a paradise island with beautiful uncrowded clean beaches, a huge amount of vegetation, rich wildlife and few tourists, you should hurry up until it is finally built up with hotels, and the coastline is not dotted with restaurants and cafes.
You should go to Koh Kood first of all for a beach holiday and a relaxing holiday. There is no evening entertainment on Koh Kood, because this is a real paradise island.
Very often Koh Kood is considered as a tourist attraction located next to the popular tourist destination Koh Chang Island, but it is quite an independent resort. The infrastructure here is poorly developed, but it is quite sufficient for a relaxing holiday. Here you can go diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, trekking in the jungle to the waterfalls and just lie all day in a hammock stretched between palm trees or walk from one beach to another. The sights here are only of a natural nature: waterfalls, jungles, wildlife, underwater life.
Vacation on Koh Kood can be called cheap with a stretch. Accommodation, meals, rental of transport are quite expensive: about one and a half times more expensive than on other islands resorts in Thailand.
Most active adventurous travelers usually get bored after a few days on the island, but if there is an opportunity to visit this island for at least a couple of days, you should not miss it.
Weather, tourist seasons on Koh Kood
You can relax on Koh Kood Island all year round. The weather here is always warm and has a beach holiday. However, as usual in Thailand, there is a dry season and a rainy season.
Rainy season (low season) runs from May to October. This time is great for any kind of rest, but at times there are torrential rains (which, fortunately, pass quickly), and the temperature is too high.
Dry season (high season) runs from November to April. This is the best time to relax on the island. The temperature at this time is not very high, there is practically no rain. At the same time, the ideal time to stay on Koh Kood is from November to February, when the temperature is lowest.

Both tourist buses and mini-buses, as well as regular buses, depart to Trat from the popular tourist cities of Thailand. There is also a flight to Trat from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Preference should be given to overnight flights that will take you to Trat in the early morning so that you can continue to the island without spending the night in Trat. If you arrive in Trat later than 10:00, your chances of catching a boat going to the island will be very small.
From Bangkok, buses to Trat depart from Ekamai East Bus Terminal hourly and with MorChit North Terminal a little less frequently. The journey takes about 5 hours. The fare is about 200 baht depending on the class of the bus. There are also night buses that will take you to Trat in the early morning.

What to use to move around the island, transport
Transport on the island is practically non-existent, including taxis. Only local residents will be able to give you a ride on a motorcycle taxi, although no one is engaged in special transportation here. You can move around the island for your own pleasure only by rented transport.
You can rent a motorcycle here at any hotel, the cost starts from 300 baht (9.13 USD). You can rent a mountain bike for 200 baht per day, but riding it under the scorching sun and on the bad roads of the island will be very exhausting. You can also rent a car from 1200 baht (36.53 USD).
There is only one gas station on Koh Kood near the Khlon Hin Dam Pier. In addition to refueling, you can find gasoline in improvised filling bottles near shops and markets, but it will already cost much more.
Hotels on Koh Kood Island, beaches
Hotels on Koh Kood Island are quite expensive by Thai standards. It is almost impossible to find budget accommodation here. Cheaper than 1000 baht per room or bungalow with minimal amenities in high season is not worth counting. For 800 baht you can find accommodation without air conditioning (with a fan) in the depths of the island away from the beaches. It is better to book a hotel in advance, especially in high season. In low season, you can arrive on the island without pre-booked accommodation, and pick up accommodation on the spot.
You can find and book accommodation on Koh Kood Island on these sites or through the search form. All sites have a Russian interface and Russian-language customer support, a lot of reviews from real guests:
- 🛌 Search for hotels on Koh Kood Island on Trip.com (💳 Mir cards work)
- 🛌 Search for hotels on Koh Kood Island on Yandex.travel
- 🛌 Search for hotels on Ostrovok.ru
The bulk of hotels and bungalows on Koh Kood are located on the west coast, where all the best beaches of the island are located. There are also some good, quite secluded beaches on the east coast, but there is no infrastructure or hotels there.
- Khlong Chao Beach (Hat Khlong Chao)
Hat Khlong Chao beach on the map
This is one of the largest and most popular beaches on the island. The infrastructure here is the most developed of all the beaches of the island, while in terms of quality and cleanliness it is in no way inferior to other beaches. The sand here is almost white and very fine, palm trees and casuarina trees stretch almost to the water. If you are counting on a budget vacation, then it's best to go here. The food here is the cheapest on the island, there are many restaurants and cafes.
- Bang Bao Beach (Hat Bang Bao)
The small beach of Bang Bao is located in a bay that protects it from bad weather, winds and waves. There is a wooden pier located here, to which boats from the city of Trat moor. The infrastructure here is weak, there are no restaurants and cafes, you can eat only in hotels. Which is good, this beach is very little affected by the tides.
- Ao Phrao Beach
One of the longest, cleanest and calmest beaches on the island. A little south of Ao prao there are two more secluded beaches Ao Jark and Ao Khlong Hin, which are easily accessible on foot along the coast. So having settled in this place, you will be on three beaches at once, and even if one of them turns out to be polluted after the tide or the invasion of Russian tourists, you can always find a clean and secluded place. By the way, about the invasion of Russian tourists: Russian package tourists are most often brought to this beach for a day tour, so it can sometimes be very noisy and fun during the day. This beach also stands out among others for lower prices for beer and alcoholic beverages at a local restaurant than on the rest of the island's beaches, which, apparently, is again connected with the Russian "invasion".
- Ao Yai Koet Beach
This beach is one of the most isolated and wild beaches with a hotel on Koh Kood. You can only get here by boat. This is the very first resort of the island. You will not find any entertainment and excursions here, just the beach and complete privacy.

Attractions of Koh Kood Island
In general, the island of Kood is not replete with sights, but besides the beaches there is still something to see and do. Most of the island's attractions are natural.
Khlong Chao Waterfall (Nam Tok Khlong Chao)
This waterfall is the largest on the island. Objectively speaking, you won't see anything extraordinary here compared to other Thai waterfalls, but it's worth visiting this place. You can not only admire the waterfall, but also swim in the pool at the foot of the waterfall. There are even small fish swimming in the pool.
In the dry season, unfortunately, the waterfall dries up a lot and turns into a thin trickle, although you can still swim in the pool.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price: admission is free.
🚶 How to get there: you can get to the waterfall on foot or by kayaking along the river, including through mangroves (you will have to swim towards the current) (Klong Chao waterfall on the map).
Khlong Yai Kee falls
This is another picturesque waterfall, not as big as Klong Chao. Here, too, you can swim in the pool.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price: admission is free.
🚶 How to get there: you can get almost to the waterfall by car or motorcycle, and then walk a little (Klong Yai Ki waterfall on the map).
Ao Salad Village (Ban Ao Salad)
This fishing village is another center (after Klong Chang Beach) of the island. The Koh Kood Princess ferry comes here, there is a seafood restaurant and a gift shop. There is no beach.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price: admission is free.
🚶 How to get there: there is an asphalt road leading to the village, you can get there by rented transport (Ao Salad village on the map).
Ao Yai Village (Ban Ao Yai)
Another fishing village and a conditional center of civilization on the island. There is not much to do here, except to look at the life of real Thai fishermen. Interestingly, almost the entire village is on the water, not on land. And here you can eat inexpensively in establishments for local residents and buy products at the market.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price: admission is free.
🚶 How to get there: there is an asphalt road leading to the village, you can get there by rented transport (Ao Yai village on the map).
