Hua Hin or Pattaya, what to choose for a holiday

Pattaya is unprecedentedly popular the resort of Thailand, but far from the only one. Located on the same coast of the Gulf of Thailand, the royal Hua Hin resort is an excellent alternative to the noisy and depraved Pattaya, especially if you are looking for a more peaceful and quiet place, and the best beaches. Here is our as objective comparison of resorts as possible, which will help you decide on your choice faster:

Seasons and weather

Both resorts are year-round, and there is almost always (with the exception of unpredictable weather disasters from time to time) clear warm weather. Even during the rainy seasons, you can relax and sunbathe comfortably at both resorts, because the rains are short-lived.

Beaches

Pattaya beaches are considered one of the worst among all beach resorts in Thailand. Indeed, the city beach of Pattaya wants to be much cleaner, well-groomed and sparsely populated. But what can you do about it, because this is the most popular resort, and besides a very large city.

Hua Hin, on the other hand, boasts excellent clean, sparsely populated and wide beaches, giving a head start of several points to Pattaya beaches. Even in the city limits, they are much better here than Pattaya, let alone areas outside the city. And there is probably no such warm water as in Hua Hin anywhere in Thailand.

Attractions and excursions

In this matter, not everything is clear. On the one hand, there are very few attractions in Pataya and nearby (Bangkok and Ayutthaya does not count, they are far away), while there are quite a few interesting places in Hua Hin and its surroundings. On the other hand, Pattaya offers a lot of inexpensive group excursions to all corners of Thailand, and even to neighboring Cambodia and Laos, including in Russian. Nothing like this can be found in Hua Hin. Excursions there, of course, are also sold, but not in such quantity and not so cheap. And it is almost impossible to find guides in Russian, at least for now.

Entertainment

Pattaya is the capital of entertainment, especially for adults. Hua Hin also has something, and even its own neighborhood with girls and bars, but the scale is much more modest. There is always somewhere to go in Hua Hin in the evenings, but still young and active after a week of stay can get bored.

Infrastructure

In both places, the infrastructure is well developed, and there will be no shortage of anything at any of these resorts. However, Pattaya is a larger city, so there is a lot more choice of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, shops and entertainment here. What else is good in Pattaya – almost everything here is translated into Russian: menus in restaurants, descriptions of excursions, service in Russian, etc. Here you can feel confident without knowledge of foreign languages at all. Russian is still a rarity in Hua Hin.

Shopping

Objectively, there are a lot more shopping opportunities in Pattaya than in Hua Hin. There are a huge number of large shopping centers (there are only a couple of them in Hua Hin, and they are much smaller than Pattaya), many markets and several hypermarkets. You will not be left without souvenirs and gifts in Hua Hin, but there are much fewer opportunities.

Russian language

As we have already mentioned, Pattaya is much more comfortable for those who do not know any languages other than their native Russian. A large Russian-speaking community has been living here for many years, there is a whole Russian district, television and radio in Russian.

How to get there

There are no difficulties in getting to this or that resort on arrival at Bangkok Airport. Budget by bus you can get there and there, just as with the comfort of a taxi. Pattaya, however, is much closer to the airport, and the cost of a trip to it is lower. And in general, the amount of transport going to Pattaya is much more, you will not have to wait for the departure of the bus at a strictly defined time, as in Hua Hin.
