Hua Hin Attractions and entertainment - what to see

Article and Section Navigation

There are not too many attractions in Hua Hin itself, but there are enough of them in the vicinity of the city. It will not be difficult to visit the city's sights on your own, reaching them on foot or by local public transport - Songthaew minibus. But you will have to get to interesting places outside the city with an excursion or by rented transport. You can buy excursions at travel agencies on the street or at the reception of hotels.

Well, on the beaches, of course, there are a lot of water sports and entertainment.

There is not a lot of nightlife in Hua Hin, but it is still there. There is a whole tourist area in the center, packed to the brim with noisy bars with girls. This place has formed around the streets of Soi Selakam, Nares Damri and others in the area (tourist area on the map of Hua Hin). Also in the evening it will be interesting to stroll through one of Hua Hin's night markets or sit in a seafood restaurant near the fisherman's pier.

Below is a list of Hua Hin attractions, including those related to the resort Cha-Am. Usually all these places are visited from both Hua Hin and Cha-Am. It is also worth visiting the city Phetchaburi is 80 kilometers to the north, which is interesting for its ancient temples and royal palaces.

  • Hua Hin Railway Station

    Hua Hin Railway Station

Hua Hin railway station is positioned as one of the main attractions of the city and the most beautiful station in Thailand. For the locals, this place is very important and almost sacred. The fact is that it was thanks to the construction of the station in 1911 that the city began to develop and turned into a resort. But the most important thing is that in 1920, an additional Royal waiting room appeared next to the main building, in which members of the royal family spent time waiting for the train. Currently, the Royal Hall is not used, but outsiders are not allowed there either. Learn more about Huahin railway station and photos here...

  • Wat Ampharam Temple (Hua Hin's main temple)

    Hua Hin Temple

This temple, also called Wat Hua Hin, is the main temple and monastery of the city. Architecturally, it does not stand out in any remarkable way, one can even say that it is one of the most ordinary temples in Thailand, but in practical application the temple is very important. It is at once a temple, a monastery, a crematorium and a cemetery. Of course, the cemetery here is not in the same sense as you might expect. Considering that it is customary to cremate in Thailand, the ashes are buried in urns, bricking them into temple buildings.

Anyone can visit the temple, regardless of faith. In the early morning, near the temple, monks accept donations from residents, you can also participate in this action. Learn more about Wat Ampharam Temple and photos...

  • Khao Takiab Mountain and Temple (also Monkey Mountain)

    Mount Khao Takiab

Although this place is called monkey Mountain, they have not been left here for a long time. Or rather, there are almost none left. Only a few elderly monkeys live in a frame on the top of the mountain.

But the mountain is interesting, first of all, not by monkeys, but by several religious buildings located on it. There is a 20-meter Buddha statue on the mountainside facing Hua Hin. And if you walk or drive further up the mountain, at its top at an altitude of 272 meters you can see the Thai-Chinese temple Wat Khao Lat. There are also several observation decks on the mountain, which offer views of the Hua Hin coast. Read more about Khao Takiab and photos here...

    Practical Information

🕐 Working hours: around the clock, the temple is open only during the daytime.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free of charge, donations are welcome.

🚶 How to get there: it is very easy to get to the mountain, since there is an endpoint at the base of the mountain fixed-route taxis, moving from Hua Hin Airport through the city to the south. The fare starts from 20 baht. The cost of a taxi from the city here will cost 150 baht. Further up the mountain you will have to climb on foot, the climb starts right from the beach. Another ascent to the second temple is located a little further from the beach, and you can even get there by transport. Khao Takiab Mountain on the map

  • Hua Hin Night Market

    Hua Hin Night Market

Hua Hin Night Market (Chat sila, Hua Hin Night Bazaar) is one of the best places in the city for an evening pastime, especially with family. In general, night markets in Thailand are available in almost every resort and major city, and Hua Hin is no exception. Here you can have a cheap and tasty meal, try a lot of traditional and exotic dishes and drinks for us. There is something like an exhibition or an art workshop. In general, it's always fun and noisy here, and you should definitely go here at least one of the evenings. And most likely, once you get here, you will visit it every evening. • Ciada Market Night Market

    Cicada Market Night Market

The new Cicada Market night market in the south of Hua Hin is a great place for an evening pastime. Unlike the old night market in the center, it is more equipped. The range of products here is also different. Everything that is sold here is also aimed at tourists, but things are less "consumer goods", and more authorial, designer. Souvenirs, too, in most cases differ from those that are sold in the city. You can find really original gifts, including a real handmade. Paintings and sculptures by local artists are on sale, and an exhibition is open. There is an art cafe with alcoholic beverages and live music, and from time to time they show a theater show. • Hua Hin Marina

    Hua Hin Marina Restaurant

Near the tourist center there is a marina (pier), which is attractive with restaurants of the freshest seafood. This is one of the places where you can take pleasant evening walks.

Most of the restaurants are located directly above the water, and it is very pleasant to spend evenings with dinner overlooking the sea. The entrance to the restaurants is located on Nares Damri Alley Street, and not all entrances have a very presentable appearance. However, do not be alarmed. When you go inside and walk through the aisle to the tables, you will completely forget about the ugly entrance. Prices in restaurants are very affordable. Also along the street Nares Damri Alley there are many shops and shops with goods for tourists.

  • Plearnwan Retro Market

    Plearnwan in Hua Hin

The name of this place is also spelled as Plern Wan or Plearn Wan. This is another great place for relaxing evening walks in Hua Hin. It is worth visiting one of the evenings, along with Hua Hin night Market and Cicada market.

Plearnwan can also be considered as a night market (although it works during the day, but it is most interesting to visit it in the evening), but it is something more. It's more of an open-air museum than just a market. It is stylized as the 50s of the last century, for which several installations have been created here, transporting visitors to that time. Even if you are not going to buy anything here, it will still be interesting to visit it. Everything is quite expensive, but also unusual things, even confectionery is sold here stylized. • Hua Hin Safari Park & Adventure Park

    Hua Hin Elephant Show

This amusement park is also known as Elephant village, although elephants are only part of the entertainment program. Here you can also ride an ATV, play paintball, ride a horse, watch a show of crocodiles and snakes.

Nevertheless, the most important "feature" of the park are elephants, their shows (young elephants draw, play the accordion, massage and all that), and elephant riding. It is worth saying that elephant riding is quite expensive here, which is positioned as the most complete elephant riding. But the thing is, rather, that this is just the closest place to the city where you can ride elephants.

For those who have already seen the show of elephants, crocodiles, snakes in Thailand, nothing new will open here. If you haven't seen such places yet, then you can come here.

    Practical Information

    🕐Working hours: from 08:00 to 17:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: the entrance fee to the park is free, but you will have to pay for some entertainment, and the prices are not small. Each attraction costs from 500 baht (15.32 USD, see Thailand's currency and exchange rate).

You can get there by tut-tuk for 100 baht, take a tuk-tuk for 10 baht to the final one at Kha Takiab mountain (minibuses to the south) and walk 10 minutes on foot. But, if you are going to attend a couple of shows and spend money in the park, it makes sense to use a free transfer from any hotel or place in Hua Hin that the park offers. You can order a free transfer by calling the phone numbers listed here http://www.huahinsafari.com/contacts.htm, English is available.

  • Hin Lek Fai Mountain and observation deck

Hin Lek Fai Mountain in Hua Hin

On the mountain Khao Hin Lek Fai (also Flintstone Hill) with a height of 162 meters, three kilometers from Hua Hin, there is a whole complex of six viewing platforms connected by paths and bridges. It is believed that this is the best observation deck on the city. Indeed, it offers the widest view of the coast and the city, although it is difficult to call it incredibly picturesque, because it is just a city by the sea. Nevertheless, this place is definitely worth a visit.

In addition to the viewing points themselves, there is a whole park where you can see some exotic plants, including orchids in natural conditions. There are also peacocks walking here, some other birds and a lot of monkeys. Be careful with monkeys: keep backpacks and bags closed, watch out for glasses, chains, phones and cameras. Even if you don't see monkeys next to you, it doesn't mean that they don't exist. They can appear completely unexpectedly, including attacking. Also in the park there is a monument to King Rama VII and a series of stones telling about the history of the city. You can also have a snack in the cafe upstairs. Learn more about Hin Lek Fai here...

    Practical Information

🕐 Working hours: around the clock, the best time to visit in the morning or at sunset

🚶 How to get there: Hin Lek Fai is located about 3 kilometers from the city center (on the map). You can even get there on foot, by bike, or by car / motorcycle to the parking lot, from where you can walk to the park very close.

  • Klai Kang Won Palace

    Hua Hin Palace

Klai Kang Won Palace is another royal palace, or rather the residence of the king and his family in Hua Hin. The name can be translated as "Away from worries." Its construction was completed in 1929 by King Rama VII, and it is still used by the royal family. But during periods when none of the family members are here, it is open to all comers.

In fact, it is difficult to call it a palace, rather it looks like a royal summer residence. It is built of wood, they say that it is made of valuable teak, in the European style with Spanish motifs. There is nothing on the first floor of the palace except the park. The premises are located on the second floor, and you need to pay extra for entering them.

When visiting the palace, you should strictly adhere to the dress code. If you are dressed for the beach, you can take a cape for free at the entrance, leaving a deposit of 100 baht. Taking pictures inside the palace is strictly prohibited.

    Practical Information

🕐 Working hours: open daily from 08:30 - 15:30 except on days when members of the royal family rest here

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: 30 baht for general entrance to the territory(0.92 USD, see Thailand's currency and exchange rate), 60 baht for entrance to the territory and the second floor

🚶 How to get there: located two kilometers from the city center on the main road Phetkasem Road (on the map), you can reach it on foot. The entrance from the road is inconspicuous, but it can be recognized by royal paraphernalia and military guards.

Attractions in the vicinity of Hua Hin

  • Wat Huay Mongkol Temple

    Wat Huay Mongkol Temple

This temple is one of the holiest places near Hua Hin. Buddhists come here every day from all over Thailand and not only.

Unlike most other sacred places in Thailand, the main statue of the temple is not a traditional Buddha statue, but a statue of monk Luang Pu Thuat, who lived more than 400 years ago. He is one of the most revered Buddhist monks not only in Thailand, but also in neighboring countries. This statue is the largest statue of Lungpo Thota. Its height without a podium is 11.5 meters. By the way, this is a completely new statue, its production ended in 2004. After dark, at about 18-19 o'clock, the statue is illuminated, so that it can be visited in the evening.

Thais believe that amulets with the image of Lungpo Thota protect a person from all kinds of disasters, and especially from car accidents. Near the temple you can buy such amulets, but do not be surprised that they are so expensive, because for Thais it is not just a souvenir. Learn more about the temple and photos here...

    Practical Information

    🕐Working hours: from 06:00 to 21:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free.

🚶 How to get there: The temple is located 18 kilometers west of Hua Hin on highway No.3218 (Wat Huay Mongkol Temple on the map). You can get there by minibus, hired as a taxi or a regular car taxi, but the price is unrealistically high – 1000 baht in both directions. It is much cheaper to visit there by using rented transport or buying a group tour. The cheapest way to get to the temple is to take a minibus, as the locals do. Shuttle buses of white color to the temple depart from Hua Hin Railway Station, travel 60 baht.

It is recommended to combine a visit to the temple with a visit to the Palau Waterfall (Pala-U Waterfall), since they are located on the same side from Hua Hin.

  • Wat Bo Fai Temple

    Hua Hin, Wat Bo Fai

Wat Bo Fai Temple is located near Hua Hin Airport, on the way from Hua Hin to Cha-am. The temple is notable for ponds with fish that can be fed, as well as many interesting statues. Usually they don't visit the temple on purpose, but stop by it on the way to the happy sitting Buddha here.

    Practical Information

    🕐Working hours: during daytime.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free of charge.

🚶 How to get there: The temple is located about 10 kilometers north of the city, a little before reaching the airport (Wat Bo Fai Temple on the map).

  • Chinese Temple and Happy Buddha

Hua Hin, Chinese temple and big Buddha

About 15 kilometers from Hua Hin, beyond the Wat Bo Fai Temple, there is a quiet and beautiful Chinese temple in spacious fields. This is an incredibly quiet and deserted place, and it's amazing how this wonderful temple and a large statue of a sitting happy Buddha on a hillside turned out to be here. In addition, there are several more unusual statues, an old-looking small pagoda hidden behind trees, and a small lake.

The really good thing about this place is that there are no crowds of tourists (there is no one in the area at all), there are no shops and shops. You can come here with pleasure, without hurrying, to walk around the temple and the surrounding area, just relax. This place does not tolerate fuss, and if you want to come here and see everything in a hurry, you will most likely be disappointed. One bad thing is that you have to get here by rented transport or taxi. Read more about the temple and the happy Buddha in Hua Hin here...

    Practical Information

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free of charge.

🚶 How to get there: the temple is located about 15 kilometers from Hua Hin, a little before reaching the airport and after Wat Bo Fai Temple (Wat Bo Fai Temple on the map). There are no signs leading here, so you can only get there by map or navigator.

    Hua Hin Palace

This palace is also known as "Marukhathaiyawan" or "Mrigadayavan". It was built in 1923 on the coast between Hua Hin and Cha-am as the summer residence of King Rama VI.

Built entirely of teak wood in the Victorian style, this palace still retains its freshness, as if it was built only recently. It is still the residence of the royal family, however, like most royal attractions, it is open to the public. Strict rules must be followed when visiting a royal place: be appropriately dressed (no short shorts, mini-skirts, open shoulders), do not make noise, it is forbidden to take pictures in separate rooms.

On this territory there are mountains, caves, temples, beaches and, of course, a huge variety of flora and fauna.

It is best to come to the National Park for two or three days as a separate tourist destination (there is a place to stay here), and explore it by rented transport. But if you wish, you can purchase a tour and see the most interesting places of the park with a group of tourists. Learn more about Sam Roi Yot National Park here...

    National Park

Kaeng Krachan National Park is the largest national park in Thailand. It is located in central Thailand, southwest of Bangkok in the province of Phetchaburi, near the resorts of Hua Hin, Cha-am, the city of Phetchaburi. The park is adjacent to the border of Thailand and Myanmar (Burma).

This is a huge forest area with mountains, caves, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, a hot spring and, of course, unique tropical flora and fauna. There are more than 400 species of birds and 57 species of animals.

🚶 How to get there: the easiest way to visit the park as part of an excursion with an experienced guide from Hua Hin or Cha-am, it is cheaper to find an excursion in Kaeng Krachan. However, you can visit the park on your own by rented transport, especially since there are even hotels and camping camps here.

It is impossible to get to the park by public transport, only rented or sightseeing transport. There are two roads leading to the park: Road 3219 from Hua Hin to Palau Waterfall (Pala-U); Road 3432 in the middle between Hua Hin and the city of Phetchaburi. On both of these routes there is a checkpoint where a fee is charged. The most interesting route is along the 3432 road.

  • Palau Waterfall (Pala-U)

    Waterfall

This waterfall is located quite far from Hua Hin, 60 kilometers away, and is part of the Kaeng Krachan National Park.

The waterfall is quite interesting and picturesque, consists of 16 levels. And this is one of the highest waterfalls in Thailand. If you climb to the very top of the waterfall, then from there you will have a view of both Thailand and Myanmar. However, not every tourist will be able to climb to the very top, they need good physical shape.

It is located among dense jungles, where you can see exotic animals and birds. Only one road to the waterfall, stretching through dense green forests, is already an attraction.

In the park you can stay overnight in the camp, for which you can also rent a tent here. The best time to visit the waterfall, when it happens to be the most full-flowing, is from July to November.

    💵Entrance fee / ticket price: 200 baht (6.13 USD).

🚶 How to get there: The waterfall is located 60 kilometers west of Hua Hin near the border with Myanmar (waterfall on the map).

  • Hua Hin Hills Vineyard

    Hua Hin Vineyards

30 kilometers from Hua Hin in the mountains are vineyards. This place is open to tourists, for whom a kind of attraction has been recreated. Here you can see how grapes grow (and for the hot climate of Thailand this phenomenon is rare, which is why the vineyards are located in the mountains, where it is cooler), and learn how to make wine from it. In the restaurant of the vineyard, dishes are prepared for tourists, which can be washed down, of course, with local wine. In addition, you can ride elephants here for a relatively inexpensive price from 300 baht.

  • Khao Luang Cave Cave Complex

    Khao Luang Cave

There is a cave temple in the Khao Luang Cave caves. This is one of the most striking sights near Hua Hin. There are many Buddha statues in the temple, including a large statue of a reclining Buddha.

The place is certainly worthy of visiting, but it's up to you to decide whether to include it in your program, given the remoteness from Hua Hin. Visiting the caves will be well combined with walking through the streets of the town of Petchaburi.

This place should not be confused with the caves in the highest mountain of Thailand, Khao Luang, which is located far south of Hua Hin.

    Practical Information

🕐Working hours: access to the cave is open from 09:00 to 16:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: admission is free.

  • Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

    Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

There are three floating markets in total near Hua Hin, and the Sam Phan Nam market, in our opinion, is the most interesting and worth visiting. Sam Phan Nam is also the largest of them. All three markets are surrogates, and none of them has ever been a real traditional floating market. In our opinion, this market is the closest to real floating markets, although, of course, it is still far from them.

This place is quite good, if you don't make too big claims about the degree of its authenticity. Yes, this is far from the Bangkok floating market, some of which are still the main place for some residents of the capital to shop, earn money and meet. But there are almost always a lot of people here, great food, there is some entertainment. On a small artificial lake, in which there is a huge amount of fish, boats with food and kitchens float. If you wish, you can ride on one of the boats. The choice of souvenirs is very large, everything is on sale, from traditional magnets to clothes. In the coastal cafe you can have a very tasty and inexpensive meal, and food can be delivered to you directly from the floating kitchen boat. A railway has been built around the market with a train on which you can ride. Read more about the floating market and photos here...

    Practical Information

    🕐 Working hours: from 10:00 to 23:00.

    💵Entrance fee / ticket price: entrance fee - 200 baht (6.13 USD); train ride – 20 baht (40 – full circle); boating - 100 for two; fish feeding – 40 baht.

🚶 How to get there: the market is located 10 kilometers from the city center, and it is best to get to it by rented transport or taxi (market on the map). You can try to take a minibus from the railway station, but you will go for a very long time, the cost is 80 baht.

  • Huahin Floating Market

    Hua Hin Floating Market

This is just an entertainment park-market created in the style of traditional floating markets in Thailand, although from the real floating market there is only water and boats. Tourists and locals come here to sit in a cafe, do tourist shopping, go boating on the lake on a ship or duck boats. For a greater resemblance to a real market, sometimes boats are launched on the lake, from which they sell food. There is also a sheep farm here.

If you come here on a normal weekday, you will most likely be disappointed by its desolation and silence. But on weekends and holidays it comes to life, live music performances are arranged here, a traditional dance show is shown, etc. To get to the real fun in this floating market, you need to follow the posters in the city about holding events here.

    Practical Information

🕐Working hours: from 09:00 to 20:00. The show is shown at 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free of charge.

🚶 How to get there: the market is located outside the city, about 10 kilometers from the center along Hua Hin Soi street, 112 (floating market on Hua Hin map). It is best to get there by taxi or rented transport. You can try to take a minibus from the railway station, but you will have to go for a long time, because there are minibuses 1 time per hour, the cost is 20 baht.

  • Hua Hin New Floating Market

    Hua Hin New Floating Market

The newest floating market near Hua Hin is located near the Wat Huay Mongkol Temple. The market is so new and untwisted that so far (in 2014) there is simply no one there except traders and service personnel. For this reason, it's not much fun there, everything looks dull, despite the novelty. In general, it cannot be said that you should definitely go to this market, because there are two other floating markets much closer to the city. But if you go to Wat Huay Mongkol temple (and you definitely need to go there), you can drop by along the way. Perhaps by that time the market will have become a little more fun. Learn more about Hua Hin's new floating market and photos...

    Practical Information

🕐 Working hours: Attention! In 209, the market was closed, there is no information about the resumption of work.

Entrance fee / ticket price: As of 2016, the market is closed

🚶 How to get there: The new market is located about 18 kilometers from Hua Hin and one kilometer from Wat Huay Mongkol Temple (market on the map). You can get there only by rented transport or taxi.

  • Nong Ya Plong Hot Springs

Nong Ya Plong Hot Spring Hot Springs are the only hot springs in Petchaburi Province, and the only ones that can be reached from Hua Hin. By the way, you can get to them only by your own transport, no buses go to them.

These are natural hot radon springs with healing water. The natural reservoirs themselves are not suitable for bathing, the water in them is too hot. But next to them is a complex where you can take a bathroom in separate rooms. It also offers other therapeutic treatments, including massage.

🚶 How to get there: located 30 kilometers west of Petchaburi, and almost 100 from Hua Hin (sources on the map). You can only get there by rented transport or taxi.

  • The artists' Village of Baan Silapin

    Hua Hin Artists' Village

Baan Silapin or Hyahin Artist Village is a small village of artists. On its territory there are several buildings in which workshops and exhibition halls are located. It will be interesting for a wide range of tourists here, not just creative people. The atmosphere of this place is very pleasant and somewhat resembles a real free commune of artists or hippies.

Here you can view the author's works and buy some works. It should be said that most of the works here are really serious works of art, and not just copies of skilled craftsmen. But even if you have no intention of buying something, you can get an art lesson in wood carving, modeling, drawing, etc. in the village. There is also a cafe here.
