Grab is the Asian version of Uber, which operates in several Southeast Asian countries and is rapidly expanding. Grab has been successful at least in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia and even Myanmar. Moreover, you can order not only a car, but also a premium limousine ride, or vice versa, an economy option for a motorcycle taxi.
Which is very convenient, you will find out the cost of the trip immediately in the application after specifying the place of departure and destination, and several transport options at different prices will be available for selection at once. In general, the use of Grab allows you to travel quite a bit more expensive than a regular taxi on meters, and much cheaper than trips at a fixed contractual price.
How to use the Grab app in Thailand
The Grab app is available for free download on Google Play and the AppStore, and it's better to take care of installing it at home when preparing for a trip. Using it is as simple as Uber, the interface is in English. You will need mobile Internet or WiFi to work. Using the Internet in roaming from Russian operators is very expensive, so it's better to buy a local SIM card, although in most cases you can get by with free Wi-Fi in hotels, airports, cafes, restaurants, etc.
The following is a brief instruction on how to use Grab using the example of a trip to Vietnam, which is absolutely no different for Thailand:
In short, you need to specify the point of departure (or confirm your automatically determined position), select the destination on the map or at the address, select the type of transport you are ordering (budget car, luxury, or motorcycle taxi). After that, you instantly receive the cost of the trip, and you can place an order. As soon as the nearest driver accepts the order, you will receive the registration number of the car/motorcycle, and you will be able to communicate with the driver via text chat.
