This is probably true, although in recent years, due to rising real estate prices, the room rate has almost doubled. A normal room for two with air conditioning can be obtained from 800 baht (23.86 USD, the currency of Thailand), and the price for an excellent five-star hotel starts from 3000 baht (89.49 USD)! There are cheaper options, however, you should not count on a normal quality of accommodation for 400 baht per room, for such money you will only get a bed in a hostel.

The ideal solution when choosing a hotel in Bangkok will be booking online in advance or just before check-in. But even if you are aiming to find the cheapest backpacker guesthouse to stay in Bangkok, the prices at the reception may be higher than when booking online, because sometimes the hotel staff works for a commission, and usually does not intend to give in to you. Sometimes bargaining helps to bring down the price, but not much.

If you do not have the opportunity to book accommodation in advance, then it is best to look for it on the spot upon arrival in the Khao San Road area. This is the most popular tourist area, and it is literally packed with inexpensive accommodation options, including hostels. Another important financial point in Bangkok hotels: if you bring a guest or guest to the room for the night, you will have to pay extra for it. Tourist life here is in full swing, something is always happening on the street, including unpleasant stories with tourists, since this is one of the most criminal areas of the capital. • Pratunam (Pratunam)

  This is the main shopping district of Bangkok (Pratunam on the map) and a great place to stay here in the last days before returning home. You could even say that this area is a solid marketplace, but unlike the Siam district with its sparkling shopping malls, Pratunam is more characterized by trading from street markets and small shops. But, for cheap purchases and eternal sales, it is worth going here, because prices here are sometimes even lower than at the famous Chatuchak market.

  For tourists, this area is very comfortable and convenient: lots of transport, well-developed infrastructure, inexpensive shopping. From the Suvarnabhumi Airport, the ARL airport metro leads here, the BTS skytrain line runs, and there is also the Pratu Nam pier for canal boats, from which two lines of scheduled boats start at once.

• Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit)

  Sukhumvit district runs along the famous Sukhumvit Highway (Sukhumvit Road), one of the longest streets in the world (length more than 400 kilometers) (Sukhumvit on the map).

  This is, without a doubt, the most popular area among tourists and the most saturated with hotels. In addition to hotels, there are many shopping centers, restaurants, bars, nightclubs.

  There are few attractions here, but plenty of entertainment. In Sukhumvit it is worth stopping if you want to get acquainted with modern Bangkok, go shopping, have fun in the evening in bars and clubs. Well, or you just don't care where to stay in Bangkok, as long as you stay in a good hotel. Hotels here are mostly of medium and high level.

  Transport in the Sukhumvit area is very well represented: there is an above-ground and underground metro, airport metro (Airport Rail Link), as well as a water taxi. • Siam

  Siam District is located in the heart of Bangkok, and it is another popular platform for tourist shopping in Bangkok (Siam on the map). All the largest shopping centers, entertainment complexes, and fashionable hotels are located here. The most fashionable and modern malls are located here: Central World, MBK, Gaysorn Palza, Siam Paragon, Siam Square, Amarin Plaza and many others. For budget purchases, there are Big C and Lotus's Go Fresh hypermarkets. And within walking distance are the inexpensive markets of the Pratunam district.

  Most of the shopping centers are located at the intersection of two main streets Ratchadamri road and Rama 1 road, and a second level of covered walkways for pedestrians has been built above the road, connecting the main shopping centers. That is, here you can walk from one shopping center to another without even leaving the street from the walkways.

• Silom (Silom)

  Silom district - Bangkok Wall Street, the business center of the city, dotted with skyscrapers, banks, financial institutions (Silom on the map). In general, Silom is only a part of the huge Bang Rak district, named because of Silom Road, but among tourists it is all known simply as Silom. This is one of the largest areas in the central part of the city, but tourists are interested only in its southern part. It is here, next to the Sala Daeng skytrain station and along Silom road, that all the tourist activity of the area takes place.

  During the day, everything is the same here as in any business district: strictly and businesslike. There are a huge number of shopping centers, people rush to work. But with the advent of darkness, many entertainment venues open: Go-go bars, strip clubs, discos. It doesn't make much sense to stay in this area, except because of the proximity to these establishments.

  There are plenty of accommodation options here, hotels and hostels are scattered throughout the huge area. But if you decide to stay in this area for evening entertainment, then it's best to settle down near Patpong Street (Patpong on the Bangkok map), especially since other tourist infrastructure (currency exchange, travel agencies, transport) are located here. • Chinatown or Chinatown

  Another area located on the territory of Ratanakosin Island (Chinatown on the map). There are very few hotels here, but if you settle here, you will have access on foot not only to all the main attractions of the city, but you will also live in the most colorful and interesting place of the city, which has preserved the hustle and bustle inherent in any Chinatown, crowding and deeply rooted traditions. • Riverside

  As such, there is no area with the name "Riverside" in Bangkok. Nevertheless, it is customary to call the hotel location area along the Chaopraya River this way (Riverside on the map). Under the same name, a number of hotels are also represented in the hotel search results. This zone passes through other areas adjacent to the river.

  Hotels along the river are mostly fashionable and attractive because they offer a view of the river from the rooms. However, do not be fooled by the fact that if you find a cheap hotel in the search results (up to $30 per room), you will also get a view of the water from the hotel. Most often, cheap hotels in this area are located a few dozen or hundreds of meters from the water.

  When choosing a hotel along the river, it is worth considering the proximity to the center (to the Ratanakosin district – the historical center of the city) and metro stations.

  

  

  

• Chatuchak (Chatuchak)

  This area is home to the famous and largest Chatuchak market in Southeast Asia and a park with the same name (Chatchak on the map). By and large, the presence of a huge market is the only way we can characterize this area. Otherwise, this is a very ordinary, unremarkable urban area, and somewhat away from the center. For hiking and getting to know the local flavor is not the most interesting place. But, in principle, if you stay in a hotel near the market and the park, you will definitely be busy walking along the rows of the market for a couple of days, and in between bargaining, walking around the park.

  There are plenty of hotels here, although this is not a place where you will stumble upon a hotel every hundred meters. Hotels are mostly large, with lots of rooms. Transport is well represented: there are both types of metro.

  So, if you like the hotel here, you can safely settle in, but preferably closer to the metro stations, the market and the park.

  

• Thonbury

  Thonburi is a huge area whose territory stretches for many kilometers on the eastern bank of the Chaopraya River (Thonburi on the map). This is a little popular tourist area, mostly residential buildings are located here.

  It's hard to find a reason to recommend staying here, it just doesn't exist. There is no entertainment, and few attractions are concentrated along the river and are easily accessible from other more touristic areas of Khao San Road or Chinatanu. On the other hand, you can stay here on the banks of the Chaopraya River in one of the high-rise hotels in a room with a balcony overlooking the river.

  When choosing a hotel in this area, it is best to choose its location closer to ferry crossings or jetties of regular boats on the Chaopraya River, otherwise you risk being far from all the attractions and entertainment of Bangkok in gray residential areas and without transport. • Ratchadaphisek

  This is another business district of the city. It can be attributed to the central districts only with a stretch: it is large, but only a small part of it is more or less close to the center, while the rest is quite far away (atchadapishek on the map of Bangkok).

  It is not very popular among tourists, it is mainly known as a place for entertaining locals. So, if in Sukhumvit the main visitors to bars, restaurants and nightclubs are Western tourists, in the Ratchadapishek area these are local youth and tourists from other Asian countries. There are, by the way, not only night entertainment, but also a large selection of entertainment for the whole family.

  The area is quite new from a tourist point of view, but there are already plenty of hotels here. Transportation is represented by underground metro, buses and water taxi.

In addition to the above areas, there is also the Suvarnabhumi Airport / Bang-na; Don Muang / Impact; Nontaburi – South. These areas can be described quite simply: damn far from the center and there is nothing to do. Although, perhaps someone will find certain advantages in this, because there you will find yourself among the locals, away from the crowds of tourists, and far from the urban bustle of Bangkok.
