Tourist information about Railay
Railay Peninsula (Railay, also Rai Leh) is located south of Ao Nang in Krabi province in Thailand. This is a separate resort area, although traditionally it is referred to as Ao Nang (Railay Peninsula on the map). The peculiarity of the local beaches and the entire peninsula is that you can only get here by boat.
Railay is a full–fledged resort area where you can not only come for a day to relax on its wonderful beaches, but also spend your entire vacation. There are hotels, shops, a pharmacy, a medical center, its own party and walking street, and even an ATM and currency exchange (but the exchange rate is extremely unprofitable, it is better to change money in Ao Nang or Krabi town). The prices here are slightly higher, but the difference is almost imperceptible.
Reilly is somewhat like a commune. After a few days of staying here, you will know everyone and feel at home. But for those who want more space, movement and entertainment, it will be boring here, since all the pastime will be limited to beaches, rock climbing (if you dare to do it) and walking through places that have already been visited many times. For fun and shopping from here you will have to get out by boat to Ao Nang or Krabi. Therefore, many tourists prefer to stay in Ao Nang, and go to the beaches of Railay to relax during the day.
There are several beaches on the peninsula at once, between which you can move on foot or by boat, or you can rent a kayak and swim between the beaches and to the nearest islets. There is no ground transportation here.
-
West Railay West Railay
– the main beach of the resort (on the map). This is where all the fun of the area is located. Approximately in the middle of the beach, the local Walking Street goes deep into the peninsula, where you can find shops, a pharmacy, travel agencies, cafes. But everything is very modest, at a minimum. The beach itself is very good, it's a pleasure to swim, but at low tide the water goes far away, it's impossible to swim. -
East Railay East Railay
– unsuitable shore for swimming, shelter for cargo boats (on the map). Most of the hotels on the Reilly Peninsula are located here. If you stay in one of them, don't even expect to sunbathe and swim on this beach, but fortunately, walking to West Railay or Phra Nang is a maximum of 10 minutes on foot. -
Ton Sai
is a great isolated beach with a "community" of backpackers (on the map). In general, it is considered the youngest and most inexpensive area on Railay, if you can say so about an isolated place that can only be reached by boat. In addition to blissful doing nothing, they are engaged in rock climbing here, because the conditions for this here are simply wonderful. But the beach is suitable for swimming only at high tide.
You can get to it from East Railay by a path through rocks and jungles, or at low tide along the coast. Boats from Ao Nang, if necessary, dock here to disembark or pick up passengers. -
Phra Nang Phra Nang
is the real pearl of Krabi, its most beautiful beach (on the map). There are no hotels, cafes and entertainment here, but there is amazing white sand and beautiful views. But a lot of "guest performers" from Ao Nang come here in good weather, which is why there is simply nowhere for an apple to fall in high season. But if you go further from the entrance to the beach, it becomes freer.
You can swim here at any time, even at low tide. In the eastern part there is a local attraction – Phra Nang Cave (princess cave) and the Phra Nang Shrine, filled with figurines of phalluses. There is also a great rock for rock climbing training. Also in the shade of the eastern rock you can swim with a mask and watch the fish among the stones.
You can get to Phra Nang on foot from east Railay along the path along the cliff. On the east Rail from the west, in turn, you can also get on foot. The whole journey will take 15 minutes.

How to get to Railay
Railay beaches can be reached by boat from Ao Nang, Ao Namma Pier and Krabi Town.
-
Ao Nang
Long-tail boats worth 100 baht depart from Ao Nang from 08:00 to 18:00, and 150 baht from 18:00 to 24:00. There is no schedule, they are sent according to the occupancy of up to 8 people, and sometimes you have to wait, but usually no more than 20 minutes. The journey takes 10-15 minutes.
As such, there is no pier in Ao Nang, and these boats depart from the eastern part of the beach (cm. on the map). There is a booth with the inscription "Boat Tickets", in which you need to buy a ticket and wait for departure. To land, you will have to go knee-deep into the water. It is better to buy tickets in both directions at once, even if you plan to stay on Rail for several days, otherwise there is a chance not to get on the return boat, or you will be charged an inflated price.
