General information about Krabi Town
Krabi Town or Krabi Town is a small town (population slightly more than 25,000 people) in the south of Thailand, the capital of Krabi province. The city is located on the banks of the Krabi River off the coast of the Andaman Sea (Krabi Town on the provincial map).
The city itself is not of particular interest to tourists as an independent tourist destination. There are no beaches, no special entertainment, no large number of interesting sights. He is very provincial, and after 19 hours almost all goes to sleep. However, tourists are frequent visitors to the town, since it is the main transport gateway to Krabi province, the resorts and islands of which are quite popular. There is an international airport nearby (sometimes even charter flights from Russia are operated there), most regular bus flights from major cities in Thailand, including from Bangkok, arrive at the city bus station, not at resorts of the province. Having already arrived in the city, tourists transfer to local transport and go to places of rest. I.e. Krabi town is mainly used as a transshipment base.
However, there are several reasons to stay in Krabi Town for a day or two. You can stay here for an overnight stay after arrival or before departure to rest a little. Also, travelers sometimes make a short stop here on their way to Malaysia or back. And yet, some tourists linger in the town to experience the spirit of a provincial Thai town, and this, by the way, is worth it.
A separate category of travelers stops in the city and uses it as a base for trips around the province. This makes sense, because in Krabi town the prices for accommodation are much lower than in the resort areas of the province, and you can rent a motorbike and travel the whole province on your own.
Despite the fact that there is no separate tourist area in the city, there is everything a tourist may need: hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, shops, motorcycle rental. There are several shopping centers (Big-C, Tesco, Vogue) and markets where prices are lower than in the resort areas of the province. Therefore, tourists often come here from the beaches to buy inexpensive food, or to buy something serious from manufactured goods. And there are also a lot of folk food courts where you can try unusual local food from the stalls.
