Sights of Krabi Town - what to see

Article and Section Navigation

Attractions directly in Krabi Town quite a bit. However, there are enough classes for a couple of days in the city. The city has an indescribable atmosphere of a provincial Thai town and is not at all like popular resort towns like Pattaya or Hua Hin.

On the opposite side of the river there are mangroves (mangrove forest walkway), where you should definitely visit. To do this, you will first have to hire a boat to cross the river. There you can also look at two picturesque rocks of Khao Kanab Nam and visit the caves in them.

Another interesting activity is kayaking on the river. The entertainment can also include hiking in local markets, especially at night. There are two daily night markets in the city, where there are many restaurants with local cuisine. The night market "Walking Street Market" is also open on weekends

The Krabi River embankment deserves special attention. This is the most tourist place in the city, and the best place for walks, including evening ones. On the embankment there is the most famous tourist place of the city – the crab sculpture, as well as other interesting sculptures. It is worth taking a walk to the observation deck overlooking the rocks of Khao Kanab Nam.

There are also several Buddhist temples in the city (the most popular is Wat Kaew).

In the travel agencies of the city, you can purchase excursions to the sights of the province, including tours to resort places, such as islands.

One of the most popular attractions visited from Krabi Town is the Tiger Cave Temple.

Khao Kanab Nam

Two picturesque hills Khao Kanab Nam with a height of 100 meters are one of the business cards of Krabi Town and the province as a whole. Their view adorns the horizon towards the Krabi River from almost any point of the city promenade.

But you can not only look at these rocks from the embankment, but also visit them. This is one of the simplest and most popular excursions and attractions for tourists staying in the provincial capital.

There are caves inside the mountains, a particularly interesting one of which is the one to which all tourists are taken. It is well equipped for visiting, and is notable not only for its bizarre formations – stalactites and stalagmites, but also for the fact that excavations were carried out here, during which many human skeletons, ancient utensils, and rock carvings were discovered.

Some of the excursions to the mountains also include: walking along or along the mangroves; landing in a traditional fishing village, where you can see how fish are grown in artificial reservoirs, but in a natural environment, and taste this fish in a restaurant on the water; visiting monkey beach, where tourists are not dropped off, but swim close enough so that you can see how they bathe and rage.

🚶 How to get there: You can only get to the rocks and caves by boat from the Chao Fa Pier (Khao Kanab Nam rocks on the map). Right at the marina or at the hotel, you can buy an excursion to the rocks and caves (cheaper at the marina), or arrange a walk with local boaters directly.

Wat Kaew Korawaram Temple

Wat Kaew Korawaram Temple

Wat Kaew Korawaram Temple is the largest and most important temple in Krabi Town and, perhaps, the second most popular and beautiful after the Tiger Temple Wat Tham Seua in the whole Krabi Province. It is very remarkable and is popularly called the White Temple, because it is dazzlingly white from the outside. Inside, the walls are covered with colorful frescoes telling about some stories from the life of the Buddha.

The main building is located on the territory of the whole temple complex and park, which includes, among others, a monastery. You can move around the whole territory quite calmly and see everything you want, but some rooms can only be entered with the permission of monks and attendants, and some paths are intended only for walking monks and their meditations.

If you are staying in Krabi town, then you should definitely visit this temple, especially since you will not see crowds of tourists here, and you can safely take beautiful photos. And do not forget to be dressed appropriately when visiting (shorts, miniskirts, open shoulders are unacceptable), and when entering the temple premises, you must take off your shoes.

Krabi River Embankment and sculptures

Crab Sculpture

The promenade along the Krabi River is one of the best places for evening walks in the city. There are few tourists here, as Krabi town itself is not particularly spoiled by the attention of tourists, but at least life here does not freeze after 19 pm, as in most parts of the city.

There are several interesting sculptures on the embankment, including the famous metal sculpture of a crab, a fountain. In the evening, before it gets dark, amateur fishermen with fishing rods appear on the shore, which are interesting to watch.

There are a number of cafes and restaurants across the street from the embankment, but it is much more interesting to have dinner at the local night food court, which is open after dark and until about 22 hours. Here, as in most of these traditional Thai places, all kinds of local dishes and drinks are sold from the stalls. What is noteworthy here is that there are very few European tourists among the visitors, but mostly locals and tourists from Asia. This food court is located on the waterfront opposite Chao Fah Alley Street.

Walking Street Night Market

Walking Street Market

This is the most popular and most "tourist" of the three night markets of Krabi Town and the only one where there is a stage for performances. This is a favorite place for locals to relax on a weekend evening, so it's always crowded, noisy and fun.

As in most similar places in Thai cities, in addition to selling souvenirs and everyday items, there is a huge food court here. In general, this is probably the best place in the city where you can spend the evening enjoying exotic Thai dishes and washing them down with ice-cold beer. The food court tables are set right in front of the stage, on which the local "national talents" show shows almost all evening. If you liked one of the artists, you can leave them a reward in the form of a tip, as this is their only earnings this evening.

Of course, you can buy some souvenirs or everyday items here, although the prices are slightly higher than in shops in the city. The only bad thing is that this night market works only from Friday to Sunday.

🕐 Working hours: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 17:00 to 22:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free.

🚶 How to get there: The Walking Street night market is located in the city center along Maharaja 8 Alley or Maharaja Soi 8 (Walking Street on the map). Fixed-route taxis from Ao Nang for 50 baht stop almost at the market on Maharaj Alley.

Local night market

Night market

Not far from Walking Street, there is another evening market in the evenings. Here you can buy fruits and food, but on separate trays you can buy ready-made meals and drinks, and consume them here, on plastic tables. But the situation here is very simple, mostly local visitors. If you disdain to eat in such places, you can buy ready-made food here and eat it in the room, the quality of local dishes is decent. Prices here are much cheaper than on Walking Street.

🕐 Working hours: daily from 17:00 to 22:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free.

🚶 How to get there: located in the city center on Maharaja 10 Alley or Maharaja Soi 10 (on the map)

Night market on the waterfront

Night market

A small food court is open on the waterfront in the area of the Cha Fah marina in the evenings. It is a cross between Walking Street and a night market for locals: the prices are not high, the food is tasty and inexpensive, but the atmosphere is Spartan. Perfect as a place where you can eat inexpensively and tasty even every evening, especially since the street with guest houses and hotels is nearby.

🕐 Working hours: daily from 17:00 to 22:00.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free.

🚶 How to get there: located on the waterfront opposite Chao Fah Street (on the map)

Urban sculptures

The most unexpected places in the city are decorated with unusual sculptures. So, traffic lights at intersections are held by an ancient man, a night street lamp hangs on the trunk of an elephant, and a pillar at the intersection is guarded by lions. Take a walk around the city and occasionally look up, and you will find these amazing sculptures in places where you absolutely do not expect to see something beautiful.

Thara Park

Thara Park

A small green sports park Thara Park is located in the southern part of the city on the banks of the Krabi River. There are running tracks, a football field, a place for cycling and skateboarding, several trays with drinks, ice cream and fast food. For ordinary tourists with children, this park may be interesting because there is a children's playground.

🕐 Working hours: around the clock.

💵Entrance fee / ticket price: free of charge.

🚶 How to get there: (Thara Park on the map). You can get from the city center on foot.
