How to get to Lanta Island, transportation

Lanta Island is located in the province of Krabi and it is traditionally reached through the airport of Krabi or from other resorts and islands of the province. But Lanta can also be reached from Phuket, from the province of Trang, the province of Satun ( Ko Lipe Island) and a transshipment point between Malaysia and Thailand – the city of Hat Yai. ✈ By plane

There is no airport on the island of Lanta, and the nearest Krabi Airport is 70 kilometers away. The cheapest way to reach it is by budget airlines from the old Bangkok Don Mueang Airport, but you can also fly from the new Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.

You can also get there via Phuket airport or Trang, but moving from them to the island will be more expensive and longer.

Budget airlines AirAsia and NokAir on their websites offer an excellent flight option with a transfer included in the ticket to the island of Lanta at the Saladan marina.

How to get from Krabi Airport to Lanta Island

If your ticket does not include a transfer to Lanta Island, you can get there by taxi for 2500 baht for a car / 3000 baht minivan.

If a taxi is too expensive for you, you can get there by minivan for 450-600 baht. These minivans depart from the airport from 08:30 to 15:30 every hour. You can book a ticket and check the schedule on the website - krabitransfers.in.th

If this option does not suit you either, then you can take a minibus to the bus station Talad Kao (80 baht) or to the center of Krabi town Songhtaew (90 baht), and there transfer to a minivan to O. Lanta, Minivans depart from there every hour from 07:00 to 17:00, the cost is from 250 baht (from the city center a little more expensive).

And another option is to get from the airport to the Klong Jilad pier and take the ferry to Lanta there (see below), but it will be more expensive.

🚖 By taxi

It is more convenient and sometimes even cheaper (if you have a company) to get to Lanta from some of the nearest resorts and transport points by taxi or personal minivan. Approximate prices for the trip (in BAHT):

🚌 By bus

Large regular buses from long–distance destinations in Thailand do not go directly to Lanta Island, so you will have to get from other resorts and cities via the Krabi province bus station - Talad Kao. Arriving at Talad Kao, you will need to transfer to a minivan to Lanta (ferries to the island). Minivans depart from there every hour from 07:00 to 17:00, the cost is 250 baht. To plan a route, you can use the schedule or book tickets using the search/schedule form below.

Some travel agencies offer direct transfer to Lanta from popular resorts, but in fact it is a transfer at Talda Kao station or in the center of Phuket Town.

• Krabi Airport to Lantu. Minivans depart from the airport every hour from 07:00 to 17:00, the cost is 250 baht, 2-3 hours on the way.
• From Krabi Town, Ao Nang. Minivans from the center of Krabi Town depart every hour from 07:00 to 17:00, 250 baht, 2-3 hours on the way. Return (Lanta-Krabi) from 06:00 to 15:00. Tickets for them can be purchased at any agency and hotel, Krabi Town and Ao Nang. From Ao Nang you will have to pay extra for the transfer from the hotel to the place of departure of the minivan.
• From Trang. Direct minivans from the bus and railway station of Trang to Lanta depart to 09:30 , 10:50, 12:20, 13:45, 15:10, 16:30. Back 08:00, 09:20, 10:40, 12:00, 13:30 , 15:00. The journey takes 2-3 hours.
• From Phuket. Direct minivans with a new Phuket Bus Station depart every hour from 08:00 to 15:00, the cost is 350 baht, 5-6 hours on the way.
• From Bangkok and Hua Hin. From Bangkok (via Hua Hin and Cha-am) buses depart from the southern and northern bus terminals (see the schedule in the table below). Cost – from 660 baht, travel time – 11 hours. It is better to use the night bus to arrive in Krabi in the morning and have time to transfer to a minivan to Lanta.

By ferry/boat

Lanta can be reached by water from Phuket, Phi Phi Island, from Klong Jilad Marina in Krabi Town, marina Nopparat Thara Pier in Ao Nang, Railay Beach and even from Koh Lipe Island. All ferries arrive and depart from Saladan Pier (Ban Sala Dan) (marina on the map)

🚗 By car/motorcycle

It will not be difficult to get to Lanta Island by rented transport, but you will have to overcome two ferries. On the mainland, you need to go to the village of Baan Hua Hin, from where you can cross to Lanta Noi, then drive around the island again, and then by ferry to the main island of Lanta Yai.

Ferries operate from 07:00 to 22:00, cost: motorcycle – 40 baht, car – 130 baht.

Transport, what to use to move around the island

There is no public transport on Lanta, and you will have to use a taxi, a motorcycle taxi, or rent a transport to move.

A motorcycle taxi ride within the island costs an average of 150 baht. Renting a motorcycle by Thai standards is quite expensive here: at least 200 baht per day. Cars (mostly jeeps) are rented on Lanta for 1200 baht.

To get to the desired hotel or beach upon arrival on Lanta at Saladan Pier, you can use the free shuttle service that some hotels offer when booking a room in advance from them.
