Phuket International Airport (Phuket International Airport, IATA code - HKT) is located in the north of the island (see Phuket Airport on the map). From the capital of the island, Phuket Town, the airport is 32 kilometers away, and the same distance from the most popular Patong Beach.

Phuket Airport is the third international air gateway to Thailand after Bangkok airports Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang. I come here not only for those who are going to rest on the island of Phuket, but also through it it is convenient to get to other resorts in the south of Thailand: Koh Samui, Phangan, Krabi and others.

The airport accepts many international flights, including direct flights from Russia and CIS countries. From Russia, flights are operated from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, and charter flights from other regions of the Russian Federation are organized according to the seasons. There are also profitable flights with a transfer in a third country by foreign airlines. The cost of a direct flight from Russia to Phuket is more expensive than before Bangkok, but it still often costs less than a flight to Bangkok+a low-cost airline flight from Bangkok to Phuket.

Airport structure, infrastructure

There is an arrivals hall on the ground floor of the airport. All services for arriving passengers are also located here: car rental, currency exchange, hotel reservations, ATMs. The exchange rate at the exchange office at the airport is acceptable, you can safely change here for the initial stage of the trip.

The luggage room is located on the ground floor of the domestic terminal, open from 05:00 to 22:00, 80 baht per day per place.

On the second floor there is a departure and check-in area, currency exchange, Duty Free shop, VAT Refund Vat Refund.

There are several hotels near the airport within walking distance, though not among the cheap ones.

There is free Wi-Fi Internet (AirportTrueFreeWiFi network), but in order to use it, you will have to go through a simple registration procedure with your last name, first name and passport number.

How to get from Phuket airport to the beaches

Public transport in Phuket is poorly developed, there are no regular buses to the beaches here. The choice of transport options is not so great:

• Taxi

  Taxis at Phuket airport are by the meter (Taxi-meter) and fixed by price (Limousine Service). With a fixed price, you are immediately told the cost of the trip, you just have to name the hotel. A trip on the meter is cheaper.

  To use the taxi meter, find the Taxi meter counter at the exit from the airport. The counting system is quite complicated, plus all sorts of airport fees are included in the price, for a reference point, a trip to Patong will cost about 650 baht.

  The fixed-price taxi stand (Limousine Service) is located on the ground floor of the terminal and outside at the exit. Approximate prices:

  • Airport - Patong – 900 baht
  • Airport – Phuket Town – 800 baht
  • Airport – Naiton – 6800 baht
  • Airport – Bang Tao – 800 baht
  • Airport – Surin – 800 baht
  • Airport – Kamala – 800 baht
  • Airport – Karon – 900 baht
  • Airport – Kata – 900 baht
  • Airport – Janui – 900 baht
  • Airport – Rawai – 900 baht

• Rent a car

  There are several representative offices of well-known global distributors at the airport. You can leave the airport by car, and return by it. It is better to book a car in advance via the Internet.

  To drive a car in Thailand, tourists no longer need to obtain an international driver's license (IDP). On May 1, 2021, the long-awaited event finally took place - Thailand ratified the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, which it initially joined back in 1968. And now in Thailand, theoretically, it is possible to manage rented transport using ordinary Russian rights. However, so far in Thailand there has not been a practice of adopting national VUS on the roads by police officers, therefore, in order not to finish off our rightness every time, we still recommend that you additionally issue an IDP.   The cost of renting a car in Thailand starts from 600 baht when booking for several days. You can find and book a car for rent using the search form and compare prices from different rental companies:

• Minivans (Minibus)

  Minivans depart from the airport to the beaches of Patong, Karon and Kata. They go irregularly, according to occupancy, usually after the arrival of each flight. The cost to Patong is 180 baht, to Karon and Kata 200 baht. If you need to get to another beach along the route of these minivans, try to arrange at the counter to be dropped off.

• Local Airport Bus (Airport bus)

  There is only one bus route from the airport. It goes to Phuket town to old bus station, costs 100 baht. The schedule is here - http://airportbusphuket.com/timetable.php. Then at the old station you can transfer to a minibus or a local bus to the beaches: Patong – 30 baht; Surin, Kamala, Bang Tao - 50 baht; Karon, Kata – 35 baht.
