Kamala Beach is located on the west coast of Phuket between Patong and Surin beaches (Kamala on the island map). Its peculiarity is that it was formed from a Muslim village, and therefore the proportion of Muslims here is high, and in the mornings in some parts of it you can hear calls to prayers from mosques. This is one of the reasons why the reviews of tourists about the Kamala area turn out to be so ambiguous: some praise him for his silence and tranquility, while others, on the contrary, complain about the early muezzins and the noise of the roads.

But no matter what they write in the reviews, objectively Kamala beach is a calm, quiet beach with a developed infrastructure and a large selection of accommodation from budget to very expensive. At the same time, this is one of the few places on the island where hotels are on the first line. Everything that is necessary for a developed tourist area is available here: travel agencies, transport rental, currency exchange, shops. The area is not purely tourist, there are a lot of houses of local residents here, and this is another feature of it. Nightlife here is poorly developed: there are only a few bars, and everything else closes after 9 pm. For night entertainment, you will have to go to Patong beach.

Kamala Beach itself is located in a beautiful crescent-shaped bay with a length of exactly two kilometers, which is enough for those who like long walks along the shore. The sand here is mostly fine mixed with large grains of sand. The bottom goes under the water normally, there are no stones, so you can swim even at low tide, but you will have to walk the extra meters to the water. But in the south (from Patong) the slope of the bottom is weak, it is very far to the depth.

The situation along the entire length of the beach is heterogeneous: in the north (this side is closer to Surin beach) the beach is more deserted, less entertainment, the water is cleaner, but the biggest waves; in the center it is much more crowded, there is more entertainment, everything is crowded with sun loungers in several rows; there are few people in the south, the water is muddy, the depth is small, plus the mouth of the river and the parking of fishing boats.

There is entertainment on the beach, but in the low season there are much fewer of them. Cafes, restaurants, massage parlors. Vendors on the beaches – everything is there. You can also surf here, especially in the northern part and in low season. And at high, when the water is calm, again in the north you can dive with a mask near the stones. There is also a dive center here.

You can get to Kamala Beach from the airport by taxi from 1000 baht (see currency of Thailand, exchange rate). A trip from Patong will cost from 400 baht. You can also get here by minibus from Phuket Town for 50 baht. Songthaew minibus departs from the old bus station in Phuket Town and goes through Kamala, Surin, and ends the route at Bang Tao.

Kamala Beach Hotels are very diverse in price. There are hotels on the first line with their own stretch of beach, they are all expensive. Further from the coast, you can find cheaper hotels, and in the depths of the village you can find inexpensive housing for rent for a long time.

Summing up about Kamala. This is a good beach and a quiet, peaceful area with sufficient infrastructure. Perfect for a relaxing family holiday and long wintering, but there is almost no entertainment and nightlife here.
