Patong means "Banana forest" in Thai. It is located on the west coast of the island, 22 kilometers from the airport and 10 kilometers from the capital of Phuket Town (Patong on the island map). The length of the area and the beach is 4 kilometers.
Patong Beach is the most popular, largest and most developed beach and tourist area Phuket. It is so developed and noisy that it can be safely ranked second in terms of development and popularity in the country after the entertainment center of Thailand – Pattaya cities. Yes, as in Pattaya, there is a lot of adult entertainment here: Go-Go bars, adult shows, transvestite shows, gay bars, strip clubs, brothels and everything else that pleases the soul of the most untethered sex tourist. All night and evening life is concentrated along the main hangout street Bangla Road. The closer you get to it, the more fun it will be. Like Walking Street in Pattaya, it's even enough just to walk and stare along this street, and this is already fun and entertainment for many. There is always something going on here: street performers perform, then barkers from neighboring bars and nightclubs arrange a show, then suddenly there is a procession of men in skirts, etc. But in other parts of the Patong area there is also enough fun, just the scale is more modest.
Patong beach has everything that a tourist's soul desires, the infrastructure here is 100% developed. At every step there are shops, banks, currency exchangers, travel agencies, motorcycle and car rental. Phuket Immigration Bureau is also located here. Objectively, we can say that although the capital of the island is Phuket town, Patong is the most developed place on the island.
During the day, in addition to relaxing on the beach, you can go shopping in one of the many shopping centers, go on excursions around the island, visit massage or spa salons. Later in the evening, other establishments open their doors, evening markets and shops begin to work. Fun and debauchery begin to hit the key. You will never have any problems with catering on Patong. It is full of minimarkets 7/11 and Family Mart, large supermarkets Big C, Tesco with food courts, street food courts and cafes for locals, stalls, cafes and restaurants. You can find something to eat at every turn.
As for the quality of Patong Beach itself, the situation here is ambiguous. You can often hear that you should not go to Patong for a beach holiday at all. But in fact, the beach here is not so bad, and most not too sophisticated and demanding tourists will do just fine. The length of the entire beach is about 4 kilometers, moreover, in the north it gradually turns into a somewhat quieter and cleaner Kalim Beach. There is everything on the beach: sun beds, any water activities, food from trays. What's really bad is that there is a road running along the entire beach (but this is how it happened on most beaches in Phuket), and there are practically no hotels on the first line, everywhere you have to cross the road to get to the beach. In some places, the road is so close to the water that lying on a chaise longue you will swallow exhaust fumes and dust from passing vehicles, and this is really a big minus to Patong.
Getting to Patong you can take a taxi from the airport from 900 baht (see currency of Thailand, exchange rate). Also, this route can be done by local transport, but you will have to get there with a transfer in Phuket Town. To do this, you need to take the airport bus for 100 baht to the old bus station (schedule here http://www.airportbusphuket.com), and at the old bus station take a local bus to Patong for 30 baht. But this whole route will take you at least two and a half hours. At the same time, keep in mind that buses from Phuket Town are available only until 18:00. Learn more about Phuket stations and how to transfer Here.
You can get to Patong from the new Phuket bus station, where all intercity buses come, in the same way - with a transfer in the city. To do this, you can first get to the old bus terminal by minibus for 10 baht, or take the Songteo directly to the taxi stand in the center of Phuket Town for 20 baht.
Hotels in Patong. Patong is the best place on the island for budget tourists, if you do not take into account Phuket Town, where hotel prices are lower, but there is absolutely nothing for tourists to do there. It is here that the most inexpensive hotels and hostels of the island are concentrated, prices start from 500 baht per room with air conditioning for two, even in the heart of the district, near Bangla Road. It will not be difficult to find cheap accommodation on the spot upon arrival, and it is better to start the search closer to the center of the district. It should be borne in mind that prices here are highly subject to seasonality, and the high season is from December to February and in April (the period of the Thai new year) they rise almost twice. And once again we remind you that there are no hotels on the first line, all of them are located across the street from the beach.

To summarize, about Patong. This is the best place in Phuket for young people and active tourists looking for a night out and eager for sexual entertainment. Bangla Road is perhaps the second most popular street in Thailand after Pattaya Walking Street, and maybe even in no way inferior to it. At the same time, Patong is also the most developed area with a lot of shopping centers, massage parlors, travel agencies. The beach here is not the best, but for those who don't have a thing about the "perfect Bounty beach", it's perfect. Hotels in Patong are the most affordable of all resorts on the island, and there are a lot of them here. In general, if you are in doubt about where to go in Phuket and at the same time the ideal beach for you is not in the first place, feel free to choose Patong.
