General information about Pattaya and why go here
Pattaya is a popular, world-famous tourist resort city. It is located on the coast of the Gulf of Siam, 160 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, in Chonburi Province in the so-called Industrial Zone of the eastern coast of Thailand (Pattaya on the map of Thailand). It is a large city by Thai standards: officially registered residents number just over 120,000 people, while the real population always exceeds 500,000 people due to the constantly present tourists. About six million tourists visit Pattaya every year, a huge part of whom are Russian tourists.
Important! Despite its size and significance, Pattaya is not the capital of the province; it is just one of the cities of Chonburi Province. When filling out the TDAC migration card or sending mail, in the province field you must write Chon Buri, and in the district/area Bang Lamung.
Pattaya is famous for its go-go bars, night discos, adult shows, and colorful transvestite performances, and street prostitution. But along with these vicious adult entertainments, Pattaya has plenty of entertainment for the whole family, sports and water attractions, beaches, shopping malls, local markets, and restaurants. Near the city there is a beautiful orchid park in a botanical garden, crocodile and snake farms, temples, holy places, and many other interesting and beautiful places. Pattaya concentrates all possible entertainment that a tourist could wish for. Travel agencies will organize diving, fishing, bungee jumping, island swimming, yacht trips, and much more for you. And in general, in terms of the variety of excursions, hardly any other resort in Thailand can compete with Pattaya. From here you can go on an excursion not only to any corner of Thailand but also to neighboring countries.
Pronunciation of the name: the city's name is also pronounced Phatthaya or Pattaya, with the stress both on the second syllable and on the last letter. In dictionaries, as well as by locals, the stress is placed only on the last letter.
And due to the large number of Russian tourists and expats, the city is also called "Pattayagrad".
We can safely say that this is one of the most democratic resorts in the world. It suits a tourist of any gender, age, and nationality, and with any budget. Any tourist will feel "at home" here, whether elderly or very young. Among Thailand's beach resorts, Pattaya is the cheapest.
For a purely beach holiday, Pattaya is not the best fit. Radical beach lovers believe that Pattaya's beaches cannot be called beaches at all, although for an average taste they are quite decent. The main city beach stretches along the city limits and is actually far from the title of ideal and clean, but the beaches in the north (Naklua area) and south (Jomtien beach) are quite clean and cozy.

Pattaya districts and beaches: choosing the best place to stay
Pattaya is a resort where each district lives its own life. Some come here for the noisy streets and nightclubs, some for a quiet beach with children, and some plan to stay for the winter. Let us briefly describe the five key districts and their beaches so you can immediately estimate where you will be comfortable. And if you need more detailed information about Pattaya beaches and districts, read the full guide at the link.
| District | Beach | Who it suits | Transport |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naklua | Wongamat (quiet, sandy) | Lovers of quiet and walking | From the beach to the road 1–2 km, songthaew does not go in |
| Center | Central (noisy, murky water) | For fans of parties, bars, and shopping | Everything within walking distance, songthaews run every 2–3 minutes |
| Pratumnak | Cozy Beach, Asia Beach (bays) | For wintering and long-term stays | Songthaew does not go inside, to the stop 1–2 km on foot |
| Jomtien | Jomtien (long, clean, promenade) | Families with children, beach holiday lovers | To the center 15 baht by songthaew with a transfer |
| Na Jomtien | Na Jomtien (wild, clean, palms) | For privacy and complete isolation | Public transport almost does not run, better to rent a bike |
Is it worth going to Pattaya for the beach?
The opinion that the beaches in Pattaya are no good is an exaggeration. In fact, sand is regularly added here, and the beaches are well equipped. The main downside is that the water is not transparent, but this is a suspension of sand and silt, not sewage. If you choose the right season (November to April is ideal, May to October may have short rains and storms), you can have a great holiday both with family and alone.
On all public beaches (Central, Jomtien) there are sun lounger rentals – from 100–200 baht (5.95 RUB) for a set per day. Food and drink prices on the beach are about 20–30% higher than in supermarkets: coconut – from 60 baht, beer – from 80 baht. Entertainment includes kayaks, SUP boards, "bananas" (from 500 baht per session).
An important nuance: on Central Beach and Jomtien there are no showers or changing cabins, and toilets are rare. Hotel beaches in Naklua and Na Jomtien are better equipped, but access is only for hotel guests.
Tides: what you need to know
The difference between high and low tide in Pattaya can reach 3–4 meters. At low tide the water goes far from the shore, exposing rocks, especially at Cozy Beach and Asia Beach. Swimming at this time is inconvenient. Practical tip: plan your beach holiday for the morning or evening – at this time the water is usually higher. In the middle of the day (from 12 to 16 o'clock) there is often low tide, and you risk finding an empty shore.
The table above gives a general picture, but each district has its own pitfalls: somewhere you cannot swim at low tide, somewhere the access to the beach is through someone else's territory, and somewhere you cannot sleep at night because of the bars. In the full version of the guide we have broken down each district with photos, a video review, and a tide chart – so that you do not find out about such nuances already on the spot. Read more in our guide "Pattaya districts and beaches – the complete guide".
Where to stay in Pattaya: how to choose and book a hotel
Hotels in Thailand officially do not have "stars" – the rating you see on booking sites is assigned by the systems themselves or by the owners. But do not worry: in most cases it corresponds to reality, and the main thing when choosing is to focus on reviews, location, and the services in the description, and, of course, on your personal requirements and expectations.
Where to book: despite the departure of international systems from Russia, there are no problems with online booking for Russians. Here are trusted sites that we use ourselves:
- 🛌 Trip.com – 👍 Mir cards and SBP work, our choice most often
- 🛌 Yandex.Travel – a reliable Russian aggregator
- 🛌 Ostrovok.ru – a reliable Russian aggregator
- 🛌 Travala.com – payment in cryptocurrency, a 50 dollar bonus on your first booking via our link 🎂
🚀 Long-term rent: what is important to know
Pattaya has a huge Russian-speaking community, and finding housing for a period from several weeks to months is not a problem. You can book through local real estate agencies or online on these sites:
But there are important nuances, without knowing which you can easily run into unexpected expenses:
- Minimum term – usually a month. Finding one for 2–3 weeks is possible, but it will be more expensive per day.
- Deposit – on check-in you need to pay an amount for 1–2 months of rent. If you move out earlier, you lose the deposit.
- Utility bills – paid separately. For an average apartment: 600–2,000 baht fixed amount + meter charges (electricity and water). The main electricity guzzlers are the air conditioner and water heater; they can add another 1,500+ baht.
- Cleaning – some landlords include a one-time sum of 1,000–2,000 baht for cleaning after your stay.
- Pets – not all properties allow pets, and this depends not only on the owner but also on the rules of the residential complex. Check this before booking!
All these additional sums are usually not shown in the ads but are stated in the description. Study them carefully and ask the landlord questions in advance.
🛵 Choosing a hotel for a package tour
With package tours it is simpler: ready-made packages on travel shop websites. It is convenient that you can choose a hotel by map and reviews right on the spot:
- 🧳 Tours to Pattaya on Level.Travel
- 🧳 Tours to Pattaya on Travelata.ru
- 🧳 Tours to Pattaya on Onlinetours.ru
However, there is a nuance: hotel reviews in package tours often write about the whole holiday in general, and not specifically about the hotel – this can distort the real picture. So do not leave the choice to chance.
Lifehack: To get an objective idea of a hotel, always study the ratings and reviews in the booking systems via the links above, as well as on Google Maps. That way you will see the real location and get the full picture, not just the words of the travel agent.
Practical tips before booking:
- Meals: most hotels offer only breakfast. "All inclusive" is rare, but this is not a problem: Pattaya has plenty of tasty and inexpensive food near the hotels.
- Location: try to choose a hotel no further than Second Road from the shore – this will ensure walking access to the beach, shops, and transport.
- Prices (2026): from 600 baht for a room with air conditioning and breakfast (in low season). Budget guesthouses – from 400 baht, without air conditioning – from 200 baht (but not recommended in the heat).
- Booking: for mid-range and expensive hotels it is better to book in advance – the most popular ones are taken 4–5 months ahead. Budget ones are easier to find on the spot.
- Important for guests: if you plan to bring local residents to the hotel, check in advance – many hotels have a surcharge for a guest's overnight stay.

Food in Pattaya: where it is tasty and cheap, food prices, and what you must try
In Thailand it is not customary to cook at home – locals eat on the street, at food courts, and in small cafes. And this is not just a tourist industry: a huge number of establishments work for Thais, which means it is cheap, tasty, and safe there.
Where to eat: the main options
- Street stalls and makashnitsy – the heart of Thai cuisine. They cook in front of you, always fresh. A portion of rice with chicken – from 60 baht, a skewer – 10–20 baht. If you see a queue of locals – feel free to take it.
- Food courts in malls – clean, air-conditioned, prices from 60 baht per dish. The best: Pier 21 in Terminal 21, the food court on the 3rd floor of Mike Shopping Mall, Central Pattaya.
- Cafes and restaurants – from inexpensive street ones (from 60 baht) to panoramic ones with "nests" – for example, 3 Mermaids or The Sky Gallery on Pratumnak (book in advance, average check from 700 baht). There is Russian, European, Indian cuisine.
- Takeaway food – the Five Star chain and similar stalls will pack it cheaply and tasty to go.
- Delivery – Grab Food: order via the app, pay in cash on delivery (Russian cards do not work). Delivery 20–100 baht.
- Cooking yourself – at 7-Eleven, Big C, Lotus, Makro. But in Thailand it is more interesting to try street food than to cook noodles in your room.
| Type of food | Cost per day (baht) | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum (street food + water) | 200–250 baht (5.95–7.43 USD) |
Breakfast from a stall, lunch at a food court, dinner on the street, water, fruit |
| Average (food courts + inexpensive cafes) | 400–500 baht (11.89–14.86 USD) |
Breakfast at the hotel, lunch at a food court, dinner at a cafe, beer or cocktail |
| Comfortable (restaurants, seafood) | from 700 baht (from 20.81 USD) |
Breakfast at the hotel, lunch with seafood, dinner with wine or cocktails |
What you must try
- Tom Yum – spicy soup with shrimp, mushrooms, and lemongrass. Price at a cafe – 150–200 baht.
- Pad Thai – fried rice noodles with shrimp or chicken. From 60 baht at a food court.
- Som Tam – green papaya salad. Spicy, order with minimal spice.
- Mango with sticky rice – the main dessert, 50–80 baht.
- Roti – flatbread with banana and condensed milk, 20–40 baht.
- Seafood – grilled fish from 150 baht, a portion of rice with shrimp and squid – from 80 baht.
- Exotic – fried crickets, grasshoppers (20–50 baht), grilled crocodile (100 baht per portion).
Fruit: where to buy and how much to pay
The lowest prices are from farmer delivery trucks: mango – 25 baht/kg, mangosteen – 33 baht/kg, rambutan – 33 baht/kg. At markets (Rompho, Thepprasit, Wat Chai Mongkhon) prices are slightly higher, but still cheap. Avoid the tourist stalls near Mike Shopping Mall and similar places – prices there are inflated 2–3 times.
Night markets: where to go for atmosphere and food
Top 4 for a first introduction:
- Thepprasit Night Market (Jomtien) – the most authentic, open on weekends. Fish with noodles – 160 baht, beer – 75 baht.
- Rompho Market (Jomtien) – in the morning a fruit market, in the evening a food court with bars.
- Russian market on Pratumnak – menu in Russian, dumplings, borscht, buckwheat. Prices slightly above average.
- Runway Street Food Market (center) – a market with a Boeing 747, a Ferris wheel, and exotic food (crocodile, ostrich, insects). Prices above average, but the atmosphere is unique.
The main figures and places are above, so you can quickly orient yourself. But each market and district has its own nuances: where the best seafood is, which food courts have a card payment system, which dishes locals eat out of season, and where there are real "Thai" prices rather than tourist ones. Read more in the full version of the guide "Food in Pattaya: where and what to eat".
Money and cards in Pattaya: what to pay with, where to exchange
In Pattaya, as everywhere in Thailand, baht is in circulation, and you can only pay in dollars, euros, yuan, or another currency privately with travel agents or landlords. But be careful with this: the rate will not be in your favor, and besides, payment not in baht is a potentially illegal operation. Also, during a holiday in Pattaya you cannot do without Thai baht.
If you do not want to read the detailed breakdown below, here are ready-made recommendations:
- If you are traveling on a package tour for 10-14 days, all your main expenses for accommodation, food, and excursions are already paid, and money is needed only for small expenses (drinks, excursions, souvenirs), then you will most likely exchange no more than 500 dollars. In that case, do not bother much with rates and finding new dollars. Just buy euros or yuan at home, and additionally get a ruble or yuan UnionPay card at RSHB bank. This will cover all your needs for the holiday.
- If you are traveling independently and large expenses of 1,000 dollars or more are planned, then it makes sense to "bother" with finding new dollars in Russian banks or buy old ones but strictly in perfect condition, and look for an exchange office in Pattaya where they will be accepted at the new rate (there are such, try T.T. exchange). Also get a UnionPay card in yuan and top it up with yuan through a brokerage account, not through apps, and pay by card as much as possible. Do not withdraw cash from the card. This algorithm will save you 3-5% on fees and rate differences.
- Do not bring cash rubles and do not exchange non-cash rubles – it is very unprofitable. Leave rubles only for an extreme case if you did not calculate the budget and are left without cash.
Want to accurately calculate your trip budget? We have prepared a convenient calculator that will help you estimate expenses for food, transport, entertainment, and accommodation in Pattaya. Go to the expense calculator →
And now everything in more detail with calculations and real tips:
Where to exchange cash
In Pattaya there are a lot of cash currency exchange offices, literally on every corner in tourist areas. The rate differs everywhere, it makes sense to compare at different points. We recommend the chain exchange T.T. exchange, it traditionally has the highest rate (Note! This is not an advertisement). This exchange has a lot of branches throughout Pattaya, and even between them the rates differ. For example, when exchanging 1,000 dollars, the difference between branches can be 50-100 baht (1.49-2.97 USD). Whether it is worth looking for a more profitable branch because of this is up to you. You can find branches and check the rate on the website https://ttexchange.com/
But we advise checking the rate on the T.T. website before exchanging and comparing, so as not to exchange too cheaply. For example, we came across a rate on one day that was a whole baht lower compared to T.T., so you can lose up to 100 baht when exchanging 100 dollars. We do not recommend banks; the rate there is always lower than at authorized exchange offices on the street and in malls.
If you need to exchange at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport on arrival, do not exchange at the first exchange office you come across in the arrivals area; the rate there is 1-2 baht lower. Go to the lower floor of the airport next to the Airport Rail Link station; there are several exchange offices with an excellent rate that competes with city ones. More on where to find them and photos.
Separately, let us mention Russian-speaking exchange offices (there are several in Pattaya). The rate for cash in them is lower than you can find in other street and chain ones, but if you need to withdraw crypto into cash baht or non-cash rubles (transfer to a card) – then this is a much more reliable option than dealing with private money changers on Telegram. At least two Russian-speaking exchange offices, SenateExchange and Ex24Pro, are licensed organizations and can be trusted.
We went around and checked the rate at very many exchange offices in Pattaya. Besides the above-mentioned ones, there are two more points where we most often came across the best rate, here is a tip:
- Exchange near Rom Pho Market, Jomtien area (on the map)
- Cash & Go exchange in the Pratumnak area (on the map)
At these points we came across a rate for the dollar and ruble even higher than at T.T., but of course the situation may change, so compare. If you know other profitable points, share in the comments.
Which currency to bring and are old dollars accepted
It is best to bring dollars, euros, or yuan. As for profitability, we periodically make calculations based on real rates and publish them in our general article about Thai currency; you can get acquainted with the calculation at the link. In short, dollars are practically always more profitable, while euros and yuan are less profitable. But the final profitability also depends on the rate at which you buy the currency at home, since you can buy dollars at such a rate that exchanging directly from rubles turns out to be even more profitable.
As for old-style dollars, they can be exchanged in Pattaya without problems if the bills are in perfect condition without creases, folds, scuffs, and writing. There are only rare exchange offices where they may refuse to accept them, but you can always find another exchange point, for example the above-mentioned T.T.
The rate for old ones is the same as for new ones, or 0.1-0.5 baht lower at some small exchange offices. This is a loss of about 0.3-1.6%, which is quite small compared to yuan or euros. So you can safely take old dollars with you, and from rubles you will get at least as much as from yuan or euros. And if you look a little and exchange them at the new series rate, you will get noticeably more.
Rubles in Pattaya
You cannot pay in rubles in Pattaya, but you can exchange them. There is both cash exchange and non-cash via transfer. Both are unprofitable: your losses when exchanging 100,000 rubles compared to exchanging through dollars, euros, or yuan reach 5,000 baht (149 USD), which is a lot. Therefore, we strongly do not recommend exchanging rubles. It makes sense to exchange the "wooden" one only when you did not calculate the budget and are left without funds at the end of the holiday.
If you do decide to exchange, you can do it at the already mentioned T.T. exchange (cash) or at the Russian-speaking exchange office SenateExchange or Ex24Pro (non-cash transfers).
But an important warning! Do not exchange rubles through Telegram and other social networks, via tips from "acquaintances" in chats at a favorable rate. In most cases this is a scam. The most traditional scam methods:
- Issue via ATM. You transfer money in advance, but no one sends you a code to receive it at the ATM.
- The "triangle" scheme with a courier. A courier comes to you with money, you transfer the money, but the courier says you sent it somewhere wrong and he knows nothing at all, and leaves with the money.
Cards and ATMs in Pattaya
Cards are accepted very widely, and if you try, you can pay by card for up to 90% of all expenses.
Russian UnionPay cards (currently only RSHB and ATB) work perfectly; Mir cards do not work. UnionPay may not be accepted at some retail outlets or in some terminals, but in general there are no problems with UnionPay here.
Reminder! In 7-11 supermarkets, card payment is accepted only for checks from 200 baht. Other chain supermarkets do not have such restrictions.
Also important! At some private retail outlets and in cafes, 3-4% may be added to the bill to compensate for acquiring. Usually they warn about this, but sometimes they "forget", so check the amount displayed on the payment terminal before paying.
Card payment goes through without an additional fee (it is built into the rate difference), and this makes card payment the most profitable way for expenses. It is best to open an RSHB card in yuan and top it up at the exchange rate, not through the bank's app, so you save another 1-2% in fees. But this is only relevant for large expenses. If your planned card budget is within 300 dollars, you will not notice much difference, and you can safely open a card in rubles and not rack your brains over rates. If you still want to use the card correctly and economically, read our separate guide – Which UnionPay RSHB card to choose: rubles, yuan, dollars, or euros.
As for cash withdrawal, the situation is much worse due to high fees; we advise avoiding withdrawal. Your losses will consist of two fees at once:
- Fixed fee of the Thai ATM – 200-220 baht per operation / 6.54 USD.
- Fee of your card's bank. For RSHB yuan cards this is:
- Yuan card – 4% of the amount (minimum 70 yuan per operation).
- Ruble card – 1.5% of the amount (minimum 250 rubles per operation). But with a ruble card the conversion rate is much worse compared to a yuan one.
All this is much less profitable than exchanging cash or paying by card, so we advise approaching an ATM only as a last resort if you have run out of money, or you simply do not care how much you lose. In any case, it is best to withdraw in large amounts per operation to minimize losses from the fixed fee.
Shopping in Pattaya
Shopping in Pattaya is not just about souvenirs, but also a real opportunity to update your wardrobe, buy fresh fruit at prices lower than supermarkets, and find unique items at night markets. We have been to Pattaya several times and know where the best deals are. Below are the key places and practical tips that will help you save and enjoy shopping.
The best shopping malls and markets
📦 Shopping malls: Central Central Pattaya – for world brands, Terminal 21 – for inexpensive clothes and souvenirs, Mike Shopping Mall – for budget purchases, Central Marina Outlet – an outlet with Nike and Adidas at discounts. At Best Supermarket you can buy European products at low prices.
🏛 Markets: For clothes and accessories, the Jomtien night market (daily) and Thepprasit (weekends) are best – there is a huge selection and low prices. Look for fruit and local food at Rompho and Wat Chai Mongkhon Market – prices for locals. If you need second-hand and very cheap clothes – check out Soi Buakhao Market and Grand Hall Market.
Tip: do not rush to buy everything on the first day. Go around several places, compare prices – the difference for the same item can reach 30%. Fruit is most profitably bought at markets or from street vendors with trucks, not in supermarkets.
Prices for clothes and fruit
- Clothes: T-shirt at the market – 100–250 baht (2.97–7.43 USD), shorts – 150–300 baht (4.46–8.92 USD), sundress – 200–500 baht (5.95–14.86 USD). In shopping malls prices are higher, but there are brands.
- Fruit: mango – from 50 baht/kg (1.49 USD), mangosteen – from 50 baht/kg (1.49 USD), rambutan – from 40 baht/kg (1.19 USD), durian – 240–260 baht per large fruit (7.13–7.73 USD).
| What to buy | Where to look | Approximate prices |
|---|---|---|
| Clothes and shoes (budget) | Jomtien night market, Thepprasit, Mike Shopping Mall, Soi Buakhao Market | T-shirt from 100 baht, shorts from 150 baht |
| Branded clothes | Central Pattaya, Terminal 21, Central Marina Outlet | From 400 baht for a T-shirt |
| Fruit and food | Rompho market, Wat Chai Mongkhon, trucks by the roads | Mango from 50 baht/kg, mangosteen from 50 baht/kg |
| Souvenirs and gifts | Lukdod, markets, Terminal 21 | Magnets from 20 baht, figurines from 100 baht |
| Tech and electronics | Tukcom Pattaya | Compare with Russian prices |
Do not forget about the VAT Refund: when buying from 2,000 baht in stores with the sign, you can get back about 7% of the tax. To do this, at the checkout ask for the P.P.10 form and keep the packaging.

When is the best time to go to Pattaya: choosing the tourist season
The climate of Pattaya is tropical, hot all year round. The city is located in a bay protected from hurricanes and strong winds, so the sea here is calm almost always. You can have a holiday in Pattaya at any time of year, but to make the trip bring maximum pleasure, you should take into account the features of each season:
- 🌞 High season (dry and cool) lasts from November to February. This is the best time for a beach holiday and excursions. The air warms up to a comfortable +25…+30 °C, humidity is low, and there is almost no rain. A refreshing breeze blows from the sea, making walks and sunbathing very pleasant. This is the peak of the tourist season – hotels and tickets should be booked in advance.
- 🌤 Hot season continues from March to May. The air temperature reaches +33…+35 °C, humidity is high. During the day the sun is almost at its zenith, so it is best to plan activities for the morning or evening, and hide in air-conditioned rooms or shopping malls during the hottest part. In mid-April, Pattaya and all of Thailand host the fun water festival Songkran – a great way to escape the heat. There are fewer tourists at this time, and accommodation prices drop.
- 🌧 Rainy season (low season) falls on June–October. The rains here are not prolonged but short – usually powerful downpours in the afternoon that last an hour or two, after which the sun comes out again. Nature around becomes bright green and especially picturesque. The rainiest months are September and October. This time is ideal for economical travelers: hotel prices fall, the flow of tourists is noticeably smaller, and the rains themselves help escape the heat.
Pattaya is a resort where you can have a great holiday at any time of year. Each season has its advantages: choose the high season for ideal weather and a vibrant atmosphere, the hot season for colorful festivals and savings, and the rainy season for quiet, low prices, and lush tropical greenery.

How to get to Pattaya: plane, bus, train, and even ferry
Pattaya is one of the most accessible resorts in Thailand, and you can get here by air, by land, and even by water. We have checked all the main routes from personal experience, so we share verified information without fluff. Here is what you need to know first:
- From Russia and the CIS – only by plane, as a rule, to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). There are direct flights from several cities, but the cheapest way is to fly with a transfer through the Middle East or China.
- From Suvarnabhumi Airport every hour to an hour and a half, bus No. 389 departs (from 139 baht / 4.13 USD, travel time 1.5–2 hours). You need to look for it on the first floor at exit No. 8 (Gate 8, Level 1). The bus arrives at the Northern Bus Station (for the center and Naklua) or in Jomtien.
- Taxi from Suvarnabhumi – from 1,200 baht (35.67 USD), travel time 1.5–2 hours. It is better to order at the official Public Taxi counter or through the Grab, Maxim, Bolt apps. At night the price is lower, but only taxis operate.
- From Don Mueang Airport (DMK) there are no direct buses. The most convenient way is to get to Suvarnabhumi on a free shuttle (free with a departure ticket – otherwise 100 baht) or on city buses No. 554/555 (36 baht), and there transfer to a bus to Pattaya. Or take a taxi from 1,600 baht.
- From central Bangkok buses run from the Eastern Ekkamai terminal (from 148 baht / 4.4 USD) and the Northern Mo Chit terminal (from 158 baht, 4.7 USD). Departures at least every hour from 5:00 to 23:00. There are also minivans from tourist areas (for example, Khao San Road), but tickets must be bought at agencies.
- An exotic option – the train from Bangkok for 32 baht (0.95 USD). But it takes from 4 to 6 hours (slow commuter) and runs on an inconvenient schedule: from Bangkok only in the morning, back in the afternoon. On weekends there is a faster tourist train for 170 baht.
If you arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), the simplest and cheapest way is bus No. 389. It departs from the first floor at exit No. 8 (Gate 8) every 1–1.5 hours. Tickets are sold before boarding for the nearest flight, payment in cash – 139 baht.
If you are traveling around Thailand, it is best to fly from Pattaya airport or to Suvarnabhumi. If you want to go by land, from Phuket you can take a direct night bus Sawadee Tour (from 966 baht, ~17 hours), from Koh Chang, Koh Mak, and Koh Kood – a ready-made combined transfer (ferry + bus) from 650 baht, from Samui, Phangan, and Tao – Lomprayah or Boonsiri transfers directly to Pattaya. From Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai there are passing Nakhonchai buses to Rayong with a stop in Pattaya. Almost all routes can be routed through Bangkok, often without an overnight stay in the capital.
| Method | Travel time | Cost | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bus No. 389 | 1.5–2 hours | from 139 baht (4.13 USD) |
Runs 6:00–22:00, tickets on site, arrival in the center or Jomtien |
| Official taxi | 1.5–2 hours | from 1,200 baht (35.67 USD) |
Public Taxi counter, possible surcharge for toll roads (2×30 baht) |
| Transfer (Kiwitaxi, Intui) | 1.5–2 hours | from 1,500 baht (44.59 USD) |
Meeting with a sign, delivery to the hotel door |
Important tip: if you are flying with a transfer, try to buy a single ticket with one airline or alliance – then in case of a delay of the first flight you will be transferred to the next one for free. When buying two separate tickets, you take all the risks on yourself.

Transport in Pattaya: how to get around conveniently and inexpensively
Most of central Pattaya can be walked – the promenade stretches only 3 km. But if you live in Jomtien or the north, want to get to attractions, or are simply too lazy to walk, the city has three main options: songthaew minibuses, taxis through apps, and renting a bike or car. Here are approximate prices to start with (for reference):
- Songthaew (tuk-tuk) – 15–20 baht (0.45–0.59 USD) per ride
- Taxi through an app (Grab, Bolt) – from 100 baht (2.97 USD) short ride in the center
- Taxi to a neighboring district – from 200 baht (5.95 USD)
- Taxi to Nong Nooch – 300–400 baht (8.92–11.89 USD)
- Motorbike rental – from 150 baht/day (4.46 USD)
- Car rental – from 600 baht/day (17.84 USD)
- Taxi to Suvarnabhumi Airport – from 1,200 baht (35.67 USD)
- Songthaew (local tuk-tuk minibuses) – the cheapest option. During the day they run on fixed routes (along Beach Road, Second Road, to Jomtien and Naklua). Get into any passing vehicle, press the bell button when getting off, and pass the driver 15–20 baht through the window. In the evening, many start working as taxis – be sure to check the price before boarding.
- Taxis through apps – convenient, fast, but more expensive. Grab, Bolt, Maxim, InDrive work. Payment only in cash (Russian cards cannot be linked). At night or in the rain, prices can rise 1.5–2 times.
- Renting a bike or car – for experienced drivers. A bike will cost from 150 baht/day, a car – from 600 baht. An international license is a must (fine without it – 1,000–2,000 baht). Traffic is left-hand and chaotic, be extremely careful. Detailed rental rules and pitfalls – in the full guide.

What to see in Pattaya: the main attractions and practical tips
The resort has long outgrown its reputation as a place only for parties and beach holidays. There are so many entertainments collected here that even in a week you will not be able to see everything: from grand parks and unusual temples to iconic shows and panoramic points from which the city is visible as if in the palm of your hand. And all this – within walking distance or a half-hour drive.
If you have only a couple of free days to get acquainted with the attractions, here is what you cannot miss:
- Nong Nooch Tropical Garden – 2.4 sq. km of perfect lawns, orchids, and an elephant show where elephants paint pictures.
- Sanctuary of Truth – a 105-meter wooden structure, completely covered with carvings, right by the water.
- The observation deck on Pratumnak – the very panorama you have seen on all postcards about Pattaya.
- Walking Street – even if you are not a bar lover, it is worth strolling through this neon show at least once.
- Tiffany's or Alcazar show – a bright cabaret that surprises even seasoned tourists.
How to plan your visits: most of the interesting places are outside walking distance. The simplest option is to buy an excursion: it is often more profitable than getting there yourself and paying for entry on the spot. You can rent a bike (from 200 baht/day) or a car (from 500 baht), but remember about left-hand traffic and the need for an international license.
Where to get excursions: in Pattaya there are travel agencies on every corner – many with Russian-speaking staff. Prices pleasantly surprise: a ready-made tour with transfer often costs the same as just an entrance ticket. If you want to study the options in advance or pay with a Russian card, here are trusted platforms:
- Trip.com – a huge base of excursions and tickets, they accept Russian cards and SBP
- Sputnik8 – excursions in Russian with trusted guides
- Tripster – individual tours in Russian, you can tailor them to your rhythm
- GetYourGuide – an international service with thousands of reviews
Tip: if you are staying at a hotel on a package tour, do not miss the "free" sightseeing tour from the host company – even if the program includes factories. Often the entrance to one of the expensive parks is already included in the price, and the guide gives a lot of useful information that will come in handy for independent walks.
