Seasons in Pattaya: high, hot, and rainy
Pattaya's climate is tropical, hot year-round. There's never any snow or cold here. The city is located in a bay of the Gulf of Siam, protected from strong winds, so the sea is mostly calm. However, seasonality is clearly defined, and each season dictates its own rules for vacationing.
- 🌞 High season (dry and cool) – November–February. This is the best time for beach vacations and excursions. The air warms up to a comfortable +30…+32 °C, humidity is low, and there's almost no rain. A refreshing breeze from the sea makes walks and sunbathing very pleasant. This is peak tourist season – hotels and tickets should be booked in advance.
- ☀ Hot season – March–May. Air temperature reaches +33…+35 °C, humidity is high. During the day, the sun is almost at its zenith, so it's best to plan activities for the morning or evening, and during the hottest hours, hide in air-conditioned spaces. In mid-April, Songkran – the water festival – takes place, which helps beat the heat. There are fewer tourists, and accommodation prices drop.
- 🌧 Rainy season (low season) – May–October. Rains here are not prolonged but brief – usually powerful downpours in the afternoon that last an hour or two, after which the sun comes out again. Nature becomes bright green. The rainiest months are September and October, and you should avoid them if possible. Overall, this time is ideal for budget travelers: hotel prices drop, there are noticeably fewer tourists, and the rains themselves provide relief from the heat.
There are no bad months in Pattaya, just different ones – suited to your travel style. Choose the high season for perfect weather, the hot season for color and savings, and the rainy season for peace and low prices.

When is the best time to go to Pattaya: our honest answer
In short: the best time for a beach vacation is from November to February. During these months, you get guaranteed sunshine, warm sea, and minimal rainfall. This is peak tourist season, but the weather is worth it.
If you're not afraid of the heat and want to save money – March and April will give you sea as warm as warm milk, and low prices (especially after Songkran). However, it will be very hot during the day, so stock up on air conditioning and plan activities for the morning and evening.
If you're on a tight budget and have a philosophical attitude toward rain – June–October can be a good choice. But be prepared that beach vacations may not work out: the sea is often stormy, the water is murky, and in July–August, jellyfish appear off the coast. On the bright side, hotel and tour prices are the lowest of the year. However, during this time, high humidity brings many inconveniences: laundry doesn't dry, documents and money get damp, and electronics work at their limit.
Important: don't forget about tides. In Pattaya, the difference between high and low tide can reach 3–4 meters. At low tide, the water recedes far from the shore, exposing rocks and mud – swimming at this time is inconvenient. Plan your beach time for the morning or evening when the water is usually higher.
Beaches and seasonality: where and when to swim
Beach quality in Pattaya depends heavily on the time of year. Here's what awaits you in different seasons:
- High season (November–February): the sea is calm, water is relatively clean. The best beaches are Jomtien and Naklua (the water is cleaner there than on the central city beach). Sand is regularly replenished, beaches are equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas (rental – 100–200 baht per day, which is approximately 3.06–6.13 USD).
- Hot season (March–May): the sea is warm, but due to the heat and beginning winds, the water can become murky. Beaches are crowded, especially on weekends when locals from Bangkok come.
- Rainy season (June–October): the sea is often stormy, water becomes murky due to suspended sand and silt. Beaches may have lots of algae. However, between rains, you can swim, but be careful – there are fewer lifeguards during the rainy season.
All public beaches have sun lounger rentals (from 100 baht), kayaks, SUP boards, and "banana boats" (from 500 baht per session, about 15.32 USD). But remember: Central Beach and Jomtien have no showers or changing rooms, and toilets are rare.

Jellyfish in Pattaya: season and precautions
The question about jellyfish concerns many, and rightly so. Jellyfish usually appear off the Pattaya coast at the end of the rainy season – from July to mid-August, but there have been years when they were spotted as late as mid-November. This phenomenon is unpredictable, and even in the middle of the rainy season, they may not be present at all, but the highest probability of occurrence is during the summer months.
Mostly, moon jellyfish (Aurelia) are found off the Pattaya coast – they are not life-threatening but can cause skin irritation, especially in allergy sufferers. But it's important to understand that during storm season, extremely dangerous box jellyfish can be washed ashore. Their venom is deadly, so authorities periodically issue warnings about invasions and put up red flags on the shore.
What to do if you're stung by a jellyfish:
- Immediately get out of the water.
- Rinse the sting area with saltwater (never fresh water!!!), and ideally with vinegar or lemon/lime juice.
- Remove any remaining tentacles with tweezers or a stick (not with your hands).
- Apply ice or a cold compress.
- If you experience severe pain or an allergic reaction, see a doctor.
Pharmacies sell special remedies for jellyfish stings that you can buy in advance.
If you're planning a trip in July–August, it's better to check the situation on the spot and perhaps refrain from swimming in the sea, opting instead for the hotel pool. During the high season (November–February), jellyfish are practically non-existent.
