The winter months in Pattaya are the peak of the tourist season. But for Russian travelers, the concept of "winter" in Thailand is broader than just December–February. We come here when it's cold back home and we want warmth – which means the period from November to March. And that's exactly when tourists from all over the world flock here to enjoy the tropical sun. We tell you what to expect and share the nuances worth knowing in advance.
Pattaya in winter: the main pros and cons
In winter, Pattaya turns into a true resort paradise: sun, warmth, sea, and no rain. For Russian tourists, the winter season lasts from November to March – precisely when it gets cold back home and you long for the sea. But you have to pay for this – literally. Let's weigh all the arguments.
Three reasons to say "yes" (this is the best time)
-
Perfect weather without surprises
The main and undeniable plus. From November to March, Pattaya enjoys comfortable temperatures: daytime air warms up to +28…+32°C, nighttime around +22…+26°C. Rain is extremely rare, and humidity is moderate. These are the very "velvet" conditions people fly thousands of kilometers for. Forget about downpours, cloudy skies, and stormy winds – in winter, it's almost always sunny and clear here.
-
The sea is perfect for swimming
The water in the Gulf of Thailand warms up to a comfortable +26…+29°C. It's not the scorching summer bath and not too refreshingly cool – just right for swimming and diving with pleasure. The sea is calm, without the strong waves that are so annoying in summer. Beach vacations become truly fulfilling.
-
Festive atmosphere
Winter is a string of holidays. New Year and Christmas are celebrated in Pattaya on a grand scale: decorations everywhere, Christmas trees, costume shows, and fireworks. And in April (already spring), there's also the Thai New Year – Songkran, the world's most fun water festival. All this creates a unique atmosphere you won't find in other seasons.
Our advice: If you want to catch both perfect weather and the festive atmosphere, plan your trip for late December – early January. But be prepared for this to be the most expensive and crowded time.
Three things to keep in mind
-
Prices are steep
In winter, during high season, prices for everything skyrocket. Hotels become 40–70% more expensive compared to summer. It's especially expensive during New Year's and Christmas dates. For example, a good 4* hotel at peak season will cost 2000–3500 baht per night, and a week-long vacation for two can cost from 180,000 rubles. Prices start rising as early as November, peak in December–January, and gradually decline by March.
-
Many tourists and queues
In winter, Pattaya is a real melting pot: lots of tourists from Russia, CIS countries, China, India, and Europe. It's hard to find a free spot on popular beaches, you need to come to sunbeds in the morning, and by evening on Walking Street – push through the crowds. Tours are also overcrowded, and prices for them go up.
-
Water quality on the city beach
Yes, the sea is warm and calm. But the water in central Pattaya (Beach Road) is often murky and not very clean. The sand also leaves much to be desired. For truly good swimming in winter, it's better to go to Jomtien Beach (cleaner water) or to Koh Larn Island, where water clarity is many times better.

Temperature and rainfall by month
- November – the start of the winter season. The rainy season is over, weather is improving: sunny, dry, air temperature around +30°C, water +27°C. There aren't as many tourists as at peak season yet, and prices are starting to rise but haven't reached peak levels. Great time to catch good weather without the New Year crowds.
- December – the height of the winter season. Weather is already excellent: dry, sunny, pleasant temperatures. But this is the most expensive month due to New Year's and Christmas holidays. Book hotels and flights 2–3 months in advance.
- January – peak winter. Weather is ideal: daytime around +31°C, water +26…+27°C, almost no rain. This is the most comfortable month for beach vacations. But also the most crowded with tourists.
- February – our favorite winter month. Weather is still ideal, the sea warms up to +28…+29°C, and there are already slightly fewer tourists than in January. Prices start to drop a little. Great balance.
- March – the final month of the winter season. Weather is still excellent, the sea warms up to +29°C, but it becomes noticeably hotter – daytime up to +32°C and above. Humidity starts to rise. There are fewer tourists than in January-February, prices may drop slightly. Good choice for those who aren't afraid of heat.
Current weather in Pattaya and forecast for the coming days
Can you swim in Pattaya in winter
Yes, and this is the best time for swimming!
Unlike summer, when the sea is often rough, in winter the water is calm and warm. From November to March, the water temperature is comfortable for long swims: in November +27°C, in December-February +26…+29°C, and in March it can reach +29°C. Locals might call the water in January "cold," but for us, used to freezing temperatures, this is perfect swimming warmth.
Where's the best place to swim in winter:
- Jomtien Beach – the water is cleaner than on the central beach, the sand is more pleasant. A good choice for family vacations.
- Koh Larn Island – if you want truly clear water and beautiful nature, take the ferry and go for the day.
- Central Beach (Beach Road) – suitable if you're staying nearby and don't want to go anywhere. But be prepared for murky water and crowds.
Advice from personal experience: If you plan to swim every day, it's better to choose a hotel in the Jomtien or Naklua area. The water there is noticeably cleaner, and the beaches are less crowded. You can come to the central beach just for walks and the atmosphere.

For Russian tourists, the winter season is the period from November to March, when it's cold back home and here it's real summer.
Go in winter if:
