Overview of sights and excursions in Sevastopol
Sevastopol is, without a doubt, one of the most saturated historical sights of the cities of the Crimean Peninsula. There are a huge number of memorable places and monuments testifying to the heroic deeds and tragic events of the Crimean and Great Patriotic Wars; there is the largest and most famous archaeological museum-reserve in the Crimea – the ancient Greek city of Chersonesos; there are several very interesting museums housed in fortifications, and many more things that we will tell you in detail. Unfortunately, there are not so many tourist attractions and entertainment for children here. You can visit the local water park and one of the two dolphinariums, go to the aquarium or take a ride on an excursion boat along the Sevastopol bays or along the beautiful shores of Cape Fiolent, and that's probably all.
You can visit the sights and entertainment of Sevastopol on your own, for which you can use public transport, taxi, or even just get around the most interesting places of the center on foot. If you don't know yet how to use Sevastopol city transport, read here.
If you prefer an organized vacation without worries, you can buy ready-made excursions. By the way, excursions to Sevastopol are offered not only in the city itself, but also in other resorts of the Crimea, because this is one of the most popular sightseeing destinations of the peninsula. Boat trips to the bays
Excursion boat trip One of the most important tourist activities in Sevastopol and, in our opinion, an obligatory excursion for guests of the city is a boat trip along the Sevastopol bays. The programs of all walking tours are about the same, they differ only slightly in the route depending on the starting point. You will look from the sea at the monument to the submerged ships and the embankment, swim near the Mikhailovskaya and/or Konstantinovskaya batteries, see huge military and cargo ships, floating platforms, dock complex and countless piers nearby. But the most important thing is that all this is accompanied by an interesting story of the guide. Read more about boat trips to the bays of Sevastopol here.

35th armored turret battery
Armored turret battery No. 35 The construction of the armored coastal battery No. 35 began in 1912, and the final commissioning dates back to 1929. It was a modern, powerful fortification at that time, and therefore it played a very important role in the defense of Sevastopol during the Second World War. Unfortunately, due to the incessant massive enemy attacks and the inability to resist more on the night of July 1 to 2, 1942, it was blown up. The museum appeared here only in 2007. Today, the battery consists of two towers, each with two 305-mm guns, and various basements. Visiting is possible only with excursion service, self-inspection is not provided. Zurbagan Water Park
Water Park, http://www.freepik.com/ "Zurbagan" is the only water park in Sevastopol. It is of an open type, i.e. it works only in summer, and in general it is more comfortable to visit it in the heat, because if the water is heated here, it is very weak. This is far from the most modern and new water park in the Crimea, besides, the price of a visit for guests of the city without a Crimean residence permit is discriminatingly overstated, and therefore it is very difficult for us to definitely recommend it for a visit. But if you really want to ride a high-speed roller coaster and you are ready to put up with some of its shortcomings, then, of course, you can visit. Read more about the Zurbagan water park here.

Kalamita Fortress and Inkerman Cave Monastery
Skulls in a cave monastery In Inkerman, on the outskirts of Sevastopol, there are three noteworthy sights in one place at once: Kalamita Fortress, Inkerman St. Klimentovsky Cave Monastery and Inkerman quarry. All of them can be visited at one time, and for free. The first Byzantine fortification on the site of Kalamita appeared in the VI century to protect the city of Chersonesos from the north, and was intended not only for defense, but also for sheltering the inhabitants of the city. The place was chosen very well at first glance, because the steep, almost vertical walls of the rock made it impregnable. However, after the Khazars appeared in the Crimea of the VII – VIII centuries, the fortress ceased to exist. Later it was restored and conquered several times, and by the middle of the XVIII century Kalamita had lost its military and commercial importance. After the annexation of Crimea to Russia, the Inkerman St. Clement Monastery was revived. Learn more about Kalamita and the cave monastery here.
Practical Information
🕐 Working hours: the ruins of the fortress and the quarry are available at any time, the monastery is open to visitors during the day. During the divine services, tourists are not allowed to enter the temples, and only the monastery courtyard can be viewed.
