Chuvash Republic - a region in the European part of Russia adjacent to the Republic of Tatarstan, Nizhny Novgorod region and other Volga regions. The capital of Chuvashia and the main tourist center- Cheboksary city (Cheboksary on the map of Russia).

Chuvashia and Cheboksary are not yet popular tourist destinations and are lost in the shadow of their much more attractive tourist neighbors Tatarstan and Nizhny Novgorod. Nevertheless, this is an original, and in some ways even exotic region, where its language, traditions, culture and cuisine have been preserved. Of course, there is very little left of the traditions of the Chuvash people in everyday life today, but you can still hear the Chuvash language on the streets and learn about the history of the people and their achievements in local museums. Actually, for the sake of this it is worth going on a trip here.

You can read in popular internet guidebooks enthusiastic descriptions of the incredible beauty of architecture, a huge amount of entertainment and surprisingly diverse attractions of Chuvashia and Cheboksary, but all this, to put it mildly, is exaggeration. And, to be honest, we (the authors of the site) would not unequivocally recommend specifically and purposefully going on a trip to Cheboksary, since there is simply nothing to do here for longer than two full days. In fact, all that can be of real interest to a wide range of tourists are several museums, ancient temples and a pedestrian zone on Efremov Boulevard and Red Square, and all this, if desired, can be seen even in one full day.

Nevertheless, this is a good place to visit it during a road trip in Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Yoshkar-Ola or other cities and regions in the European part of the country. For two full days here you can have time to visit museums and attractions; taste the pride of Chuvashia local beer; in the summer walk along the wonderful Moscow embankment and relax on the City Beach. Another way to visit Cheboksary is cruises on a motor ship along the Volga. To do this, some cruise ships make a stop for one or two days to explore the city.

Infrastructure in Cheboksary

As for the urban infrastructure, there are no complaints about Cheboksary in this matter. Perhaps this is subjective, but we (the authors of the site) liked it for its cleanliness, well-groomed and well-maintained. It is felt that the authorities and residents love and care about their city. What is the reconstructed embankment, chic children's and sports grounds, clean streets and sidewalks. There are chain supermarkets, shopping centers, boutiques, branded stores of local products and beverages, including beer. We advise you to pay attention to the branded stores of the confectionery factory "Akkond" and the shops of the local meat processing plant.

But tourist Cheboksary is not yet so well developed. There are no travel agencies offering inexpensive group excursions. We managed to find only relatively expensive individual sightseeing tours that do not yet stand up to competition with neighboring regions. Entertainment for tourists is also not very much, except that they can include rest on the City Beach and pleasure cruises along the Volga.

In order to eat, there will be no problems, but the local Chuvash cuisine will have to be looked for. Basically, the establishments where Chuvash dishes are prepared are concentrated in the tourist center, we advise you to visit: "Salkus", "meeting", "Yultash", "Yekhrem Hushcha". In them you can order traditional dishes Salma, cămach, as-Kakai SRPI (offal soup), srttan (meat product), tultarmăs (sausage), Vir pătti (millet porridge), ikerci (flatbreads), huplu (pork and potato pie) , etc. There are many restaurants of Russian cuisine, European, Asian, There are chain fast food restaurants «Vkusno I tochka» (ex. McDonalds), BurgerKing and KFC.

For tourist purchases, you should go to the souvenir shop on Red Square, the souvenir market in the form of a series of tent houses on Kalinin street or visit the folk crafts store on Karl Marx, 19/7.

In Cheboksary there are more than a hundred accommodation options. Prices are affordable when compared, for example, with the neighboring popular tourist cities of Nizhny Novgorod or Kazan. Here's for a guideline:

Given the exclusively excursion nature of recreation in the Republic of Chuvashia and Cheboksary, you can go here for rest and travel at any time of the year. How to get to Chuvashia and Cheboksary

The Republic of Chuvashia and the capital of the region, Cheboksary, is located in the European part of the Russian Federation, 670 kilometers from Moscow (Cheboksary on the map). Adjacent to the regions: Nizhny Novgorod region, the Republic of Tatarstan, Ulyanovsk region, the Republic of Mordovia and the Republic of Mari El.

Unfortunately, despite such a convenient location, the ways to get here are quite limited. Cheboksary has an international airport, but there are very few flights and destinations to it, and the railway station generally serves the only long-distance train from Moscow. Therefore, you can get from other regions here by bus (only from neighboring regions), by private car, or by plane or train with a transfer through Moscow.

The airport is only 10 kilometers from the center on the outskirts of the city (airport on the map), you can easily get from here by city bus # 15 for 25 rubles, or taxi for 200 rubles.

You can only get to Cheboksary by train from Moscow and several cities along the way, in particular from Arzamas and Murom. Unfortunately, from other regions and cities direct flights of trains are not carried out here.

Transport

Given the small size of the tourist center and the compact placement of most of the city's attractions, transport here may be needed only in rare cases, all interesting places can be bypassed on foot. Transport may be needed only for a trip from/to the airport, railway station or bus station, as well as to get to two remote museums: the Chapaev Museum and the tractor History Museum. The main place of concentration of attractions of the Republic of Chuvashia is, of course, the capital of the region, Cheboksary, where you can visit a dozen museums, see ancient temples, walk along a pedestrian tourist street or Red Square. If you have only one day left, then here's what you should visit in Cheboksary first:

Tourist entertainment is not much. You can take a one-day pleasure cruise along the Volga, in summer walk along the Moscow embankment and relax on the City Beach, taste national cuisine in a cafe on Efremov Boulevard and taste local beer in the restaurant at the beer museum. If there is enough time and there is interest, then you can visit the Chuvash State Academic Drama Theater named after K. V. Ivanov, the State Philharmonic, the state puppet theater or the State Opera and Ballet Theater. For children there is a state puppet theater, a ferris wheel on Red Square, an amusement park "500th anniversary Cheboksary" and attractions in the Lakreevsky forest, a playground on Presidential Boulevard. And the kids really like the Museum of the history of the tractor, they probably do not want to leave there.
