Karachay-Cherkess Republic or Karachay-Cherkessia (Karachay-Cherkessia) is a subject and republic in the south of the Russian Federation, part of the North Caucasus Federal District (Dombay on the map of the Republic). The capital is the city of Cherkessk.
Karachay-Cherkessia is located in the foothills of the North Caucasus, and most of it is occupied by mountains. That is why the popular ski resorts Dombay and Arkhyz appeared here in the Soviet era, and in pre-Soviet times the therapeutic and climatic resort Teberda was formed. These resorts are also attractive as a place for hiking, mountaineering, snowboarding and other active snow sports.
Where to go in Karachay-Cherkessia
Today the main tourist resorts of the region are Dombay and Arkhyz. These are some of the most developed and popular ski resorts in the country, and they continue to develop: every year the infrastructure improves, new trails and lifts open, transport develops. Of course, objectively they cannot compare in terms of infrastructure development with ski Sochi, but the prices here are lower.
In summer, the region is also interesting to tourists, and people come here for hiking in the mountains, for walking along one-day tourist routes of the beautiful Terebdinsky Reserve, or just to escape to nature for a weekend from neighboring regions.
