General information about Teberda, rest
Teberda (Teberda, also Teberdi) is a city in Karachay-Cherkessia, located at an altitude of 1280 meters above sea level in a mountainous area 1600 kilometers from Moscow and 22 kilometers from the popular ski Dombay Resort (Teberda on the map of the Republic). The population of the city is more than 8 and a half thousand people, which is much more than the famous Teberda, where about 650 people live permanently.
Teberda is a resort town, although much less well-known than its younger brother Teberda. But the type of rest here is completely different. This is a therapeutic balneological and climatic resort, there are no downhill skis here, as well as a developed tourist infrastructure. The treatment is due to the healing effect of the mountain climate of Teberda, which is: low atmospheric pressure (600-650 mmHg), low humidity (70-75%), a large number of sunny days, high ionization of the air, a large difference in air temperatures during the day, small annual temperature fluctuations, clean air and water. Also, the treatment is carried out with therapeutic mineral waters from local narzan springs.
In addition to treatment, Teberda is interesting to tourists by surrounding natural attractions. The city is surrounded by the territory of the Teberdinsky Nature Reserve, along which tourist trails are laid to amazingly beautiful places: mountain lakes, waterfalls, mineral water sources, valleys, gorges, and, of course, mountains. And just half an hour away is the famous Dombay, where there is not only a ski holiday, but also several wonderful hiking routes.
Most often, tourists going to this part of Karachay-Cherkessia really choose the resort village of Dombay as a place to stop, where there is a developed tourist infrastructure and a sense of a cheerful resort town. But if the purpose of your vacation is not skiing, but hiking or medical tourism and a calm atmosphere, then it is quite possible to stay in Teberda, especially since the prices for accommodation here are lower. The price difference is felt especially strongly during the high ski season in Dombay, which takes place in winter.
At the same time, it should be understood that Teberda is not a resort for entertainment. The atmosphere here is completely rustic, there is no entertainment except for the natural beauties mentioned above and several attractions here. If we discard all the beauty of the mountains and the sanatoriums and guest houses located in the city, then this is quite a strong Russian outback with a few shops and a market in the center, and most of the city is just a private sector. If we compare Teberda even with a much more modest-sized Dombay, the latter greatly benefits in terms of the development of tourist infrastructure and atmosphere. Therefore, we would recommend choosing Teberda with great care as a place for a long rest, but we would definitely recommend coming here for a couple of days to get acquainted with the natural beauties and breathe a little mountain air.
As we have already mentioned, there is no developed tourist infrastructure here, but everything that is necessary for a stay is available. The city has a market, several grocery stores and essential goods, a pharmacy, a gas station, cafes and restaurants. There are no chain supermarkets and shopping centers. Plastic cards are accepted few places, but there is an ATM of Sberbank and Rosselkhoznadzor.
In Teberda there are several dozen accommodation options in the form of medical sanatoriums and boarding houses, ordinary tourist hotels and guest houses, as well as many private apartments (apartments or rooms). For a tourist stay in the city for a few days, it will be enough to book accommodation in hotels or apartments, but if you are going to stay here longer, it makes sense to look towards sanatoriums or boarding houses that include treatment and meals. But you need to book accommodation in them long in advance.

Weather, tourist seasons
Teberda is a year-round resort, but the seasons vary depending on the purpose of your trip. In summer, of course, you will not go there for the sake of skiing, but in winter you should not go here to see the sights. Here is more about the tourist seasons in Teberda so that you can decide for yourself. When is the best time for you to go there:
Winter (December-February). Winter is the high season. Winters are mild here, severe frosts are rare. Average temperatures from -2 °C to 0 °C degrees. But there is plenty of snow, and the ski season opens in December. Experienced skiers advise skiing in February and March, as snow at this time is best suited for this. But it makes no sense to go to Teberda not for the sake of skiing, but just to get acquainted with the village and its sights: you won't see anything, but you will overpay decently.
What's bad is that the prices for accommodation increase significantly, especially during the New Year and the long New Year holidays from January 1 to January 8-9.
-
Spring (March-May). In spring you can still ski, but in April the snow is already too wet and sticky, and in May it is already starting to melt, and is not suitable for skiing. The ski season officially closes at the end of April.
Regular (non-ski) tourist trips are possible at this time, but are not recommended. There will still be nothing to do in March and April, and in May it will be too rainy and cold for mountain hikes to the sights.
Summer (June-August). This is an ideal time to get acquainted with the nature and beauty of the region, for mountaineering, trekking and hiking. All hiking trails are open, cable cars work for those who do not want to climb on foot. But in June it may still be cool for overnight stays in tents.
Prices for accommodation drop significantly, there are few tourists. Some cafes, restaurants, and other tourist infrastructure are closing.
-
Autumn (September-November). September and October are still an acceptable time for hiking and sightseeing, but it gets chilly, especially in the mountains. For long hikes with an overnight stay in a tent, you should dress warmly and use a sleeping bag for temperatures of +5 ° C. Snow falls in November, hiking trails become inaccessible. Some fans of downhill skiing start skiing at the end of December, but the official opening of the ski season in Dombay takes place only in December.

How to get there
Teberda is located 1600 kilometers from Moscow and 22 kilometers from the popular ski resort Dombay (Teberda on the map). Unfortunately, getting here is not such an easy task, since transport is poorly developed. By plane or train, you will first have to get to Mineralnye Vody, Stavropol, Nevinnomyssk, Rostov-on-Don, and from there transfer by taxi or bus, and sometimes also with a transfer. There are very few direct regular buses from the regions of the Russian Federation to Teberda. The only way to get here directly without a direct transfer is to drive your own car. In high season (in winter), direct commercial flights of tourist buses to Dombay can be launched from Kislovodsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg and other regions, which can take you to Teberda.

Sights to see
There are several iconic sights in Teberda, which people come to see from Dombay and even from the resorts of the Stavropol Territory. So, here you can visit the zoo of the Teberdinsky Reserve, in which animals are kept in aviaries, and you can even have a close "chat" with some of them. There is also a House-museum of Prince I.P. Krymshamkhalov and trout farms. Other interesting places are located outside the city, but they are easily accessible on foot or by transport. Also from Teberda visit sights of Dombai.
From entertainment in Teberda, horseback riding and quad biking, rafting, trout fishing in a trout farm, trips to thermal springs in Cherkessk are offered. And there is even an artificial pebble beach on the Kara-kel lake in the center. As for evening entertainment, there is nothing to do but sit in a cafe or take a walk through the dark streets.
