Aksaut River Valley and Khasaut-Grecheskoe village located between the popular resorts of Dombay and Arkhyz in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia (Khasaut-Greek on the map, Dombay on the map. The Aksaut river flows through the Valley and there is an asphalt and dirt road, along which there is the village of Khasaut-Greek, a recreation center, a mountaineering camp, an abandoned village of Krasny Karachay. The road ends and the Valley ends at the border area with Abkhazia.

Unlike Dombay and Arkhyz, these places are not particularly known and popular with a wide range of tourists, and are rarely considered as a full-fledged place to relax. Usually they stay here for one or two nights on the way from Dombay to Arkhyz or vice versa, since there is simply nothing to do here longer. Here come lovers to relax in nature from the cities of the KCR and neighboring regions, as well as lovers of the mountains, as there are many trails for hiking and climbing to the peaks, there is a climbing camp. But you need to understand that tourism here is very poorly developed, there are no official tourist routes. There is no public transport, you will have to get there by your own car.

Tourist infrastructure

Tourist infrastructure in the village and Valley is poorly developed. There are not even places for tourist accommodation (hotels, guest houses) that can be booked online through booking systems, not to mention the availability of excursions, cafes or tourist entertainment. In the center of Khasaut-Grecheske there is a store with food and basic necessities, but prices here are higher than in chain supermarkets, and if you need to save money, buy at the entrance to the market and in stores in Kardonikskaya, or in the nearest chain magnet in the village of Zelenchukskaya.

Hotels and accommodation where to stay

In the Valley and the village there are no usual hotels and guest houses, tourism is still very poorly developed. In the village there are a couple of private guest houses, local residents rent rooms. But it is impossible to book accommodation in them through the search and booking systems. You will have to come and search on the spot, or look for contacts and book in advance by phone. If you move further along the valley, you will come across Kishket Recreation Center. Even further, in the abandoned village of Krasny Karachay, the Edelweiss Mountain Club operates – something like a campsite with a minimum of amenities without electricity and water.

Also in different places along the valley along the river, outdoor enthusiasts arrange spontaneous tent camps, or you can stop and set up your tent camp in any place you like. But do not forget about the water protection zone, which for the Aksaut River is 200 meters. This means that you can not move by car and park the car closer than 200 meters from the river bank, except for the places provided for this (roads), otherwise - a fine. In practice, such fines are not yet issued here, but the situation may change. Therefore, when setting up a camp, it is better to park the car further from the river, or leave it on the side of the road.

Weather, tourist seasons

In the Aksaut Valley there are no ski lifts and slopes, this is an exclusively Summer Resort. It is best to go here from June to August, you can also in September or early October. The rest of the months are too cold and rainy, snow falls in winter.

How to get there

The Aksaut River Valley and the village of Khasaut-Grecheske are located in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, and are geographically located between the valleys leading to the two popular resorts of Dombay and Arkhyz (khasaut-Greek on the map, Dombai on the map). Unfortunately, public transport here is very poorly developed, so it is best to get there by private car, or use the transfer that local accommodation facilities offer.

In the Valley and along it leads a single road along the Aksaut River, which begins in the village of Kardonikskaya. To the village of Khasaut-Greek asphalt of satisfactory quality, you can drive any car in any weather. Immediately at the entrance to the village, the asphalt ends abruptly, and then the Rocky primer continues. In good weather, on the ground with extreme caution and with experience, even in ordinary cars, you can drive up to the former village of Krasny Karachay and the Mountain Club Edelweiss. However, during the rains or in the absence of experience on bad roads, we would not recommend going on your own. In any case, it is best to go here in an SUV or at least a crossover with high ground clearance.

The places here are quiet, and in general it is safe enough to leave the car for a short-term parking anywhere. But if you plan to hike in the mountains for a few days, it is better not to leave the car unattended, but to put it on the territory of recreation centers or a Mountain Club, or at worst in spontaneous tourist camps.

Attractions, what to see

The sights of the valley are mountains and picturesque views. There are many trails along the slopes that allow even without the skill to climb the low neighboring peaks, from where the views open even better, but still we would not recommend going to unknown places without experience and knowledge of the terrain. If you still certainly want to "conquer" them, then at least stock up on a map, and ideally use the help of local residents (ready to take you as guides) or more experienced tourists.

Also here there are several notable places that can be attributed to the number of attractions:

• The waterfall. A small waterfall on a stream flowing into the Aksaut River. To get to it, you need to cross the river on a wooden bridge, and then follow the path to the right (waterfall on the map).
• Monument to partisan Dima Yurchenko. A grave and a memorial sign in memory of a young partisan who blew himself and the Nazis in 1942. Can be reached by car (monument on the map).
• Cross Mountain and cross. At the top of the cross mountain there is a cross and a holy spring, and at the beginning of the trail there is a modern chapel. To climb up to the cross, you will have to overcome about 290 steps (mountain and cross on the map).
