What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Armored tower battery No. 30 in Sevastopol
Armored turret battery No. 30

Armored tower battery No. 30 or Fort Maxim Gorky-1 was opened to visitors recently (October 2021) and is still in a state of decoration and tidying up. Previously, you can visit this place and see the guns up close only as part of an organized excursion by appointment, since it is located on the territory of an active military unit of the Russian Federation.

This battery played an important role in the defense of Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War, which lasted 256 days, and it is also the largest fortification of Sevastopol. The battery itself was located on the basis of an artillery military unit as part of the Black Sea Fleet and was of great importance in the defense of the city of Sevastopol in 1941-1942.

Visiting the battery is possible only with excursion service. You will be guided through the underground rooms to the Museum of Glory, ammunition depots and the artillery towers themselves on the surface, where you can walk. They will tell about the history and exploits of the personnel. The tour lasts about half an hour. It is recommended to take a warm jacket with you, as it may be cool in the rooms.

This complex is a branch of Mikhailovskaya Battery and both of these museums can be visited at a better price by purchasing a single ticket.

🚶 How to get there

The 30th battery is located on the north side of Sevastopol Bay on Battery Street, 5 in Lyubimovka village (30th battery on the map). It is quite far from the center, besides, you will have to go with transfers. We advise you to use public transport, because by private car or taxi you will have to go around Sevastopol Bay for almost 30 kilometers in one direction.

The route by public transport from the center will look like this: Grafskaya marina -> ferry (30 USD) -> Severnaya Pier -> City bus to the stop "Sovkhoz im. Perovskaya" (26 USD) -> walk 1 kilometer. But do not be afraid of such a complicated route, in fact everything is simple and fast, you will spend about an hour on everything about everything. Both ferries and buses run frequently, there are many routes.

We remind you that it is much more interesting to get acquainted with the sights of Sevastopol with the help of excursions, and therefore we advise you to look at online booking options on these proven search and price comparison sites:

Отличный музей! Рассказ во время экскурсии пробрал до мурашек, побольше бы таких и чтобы каждый посетил подобное место.

Хотел бы побывать но возможности нет. Вопрос:почему не проводится воспитание молодёжи на примере подвига дедов? Почему Анталия и Гоа более интересны? Почему не говорят по ТВ о ВОВ? Почему?
