Overview of how to get to Sevastopol

Sevastopol is located in the western part of Crimea, 80 kilometers from Simferopol and 95 kilometers from the main airport of the peninsula (on the map). The resort is connected with the capital of the peninsula and the airport by frequent bus service. Also, a branch line of the railway leads to Sevastopol through Simferopol, and now you can get here by long-distance trains from the cities of the Russian Federation and by electric trains from the cities of Crimea. • 🚗 By car across the Crimean Bridge and then along the Tavrida highway through Simferopol (this is the shortest and most optimal route), or along the southern coast of Crimea through Koktebel, Sudak, Alushta, Yalta (this is a scenic route, but much longer and, it may require an additional overnight stay on the way).

To Sevastopol by bus

You can get to Sevastopol by bus from the cities and resorts of the Crimea, as well as from the regions of the Russian Federation. Interregional flights depart here at least from Moscow, Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Grozny, Derbent, Pyatigorsk, Vladikavkaz and many other cities in the European part of the country. There are several bus stations and bus stations in Sevastopol, but the most important two are:

• Main (central) bus station. It is located relatively close to the center at 11 Vokzalnaya Street (bus station on the map). You can get to the bus station from the center by taxi for about 200 rubles. There are also a huge number of city buses and trolleybuses coming here, because this is a major transport hub.

• Severnaya bus station. It is located in the northern part of the city on the other shore of Sevastopol Bay from the center on Zakharov Square (Severnaya bus station on the map). From the center you can get here by regular ferries that run every 10-20 minutes to Grafskaya Pier for 30 rubles (price in 2023).

  From the North, suburban and intercity flights depart to Bakhchisarai, Lyubimovka, Kacha, Orlovka, Beregovoye, Saki, Yevpatoria, Chernomorskoye, Armyansk and other cities and resorts in the north. There is also the Inkerman bus station on Simferopol highway, 19, but for tourists it is inconveniently located, and therefore of little interest.

The only question you are likely to have about buses to Sevastopol is which station to choose for arrival and departure. Here you need to be guided by the schedule, as well as where you plan to spend your vacation in Sevastopol. So, if you want to get acquainted with sights of Sevastopol and have booked accommodation in the center, it is better to choose the main bus station. If you are planning a beach holiday and your hotel is located in Uchkuyevka, Lyubimovka, Orlovka or Kacha, then it is better to go to the Northern bus station and from there to your hotel by taxi or local buses.

By plane to Sevastopol

Although Belbek civil-military airport is located next to Sevastopol, so far it does not accept civilian flights. And therefore it is necessary to get here through Simferopol airport (named after Aivazovsky), which is located 100 kilometers away and about an hour and a half away (airport on the map). It has many daily flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg and the regions of the Russian Federation. If there are no flights from your region to Simferopol, you can find convenient connecting flights via Moscow.

How to get from Simferopol airport to Sevastopol

From the airport to Sevastopol within one and a half to two hours you can get by taxi, bus, or with a transfer in Simferopol by train. You can also rent a car and drive it to the place of rest on your own. Learn more about each of the methods:

• By taxi

  In Crimea, the work of the applications of aggregators Yandex.go, Uber, etc. is blocked, and therefore the car will have to be ordered on the spot at the airport counter, by calling local taxi companies, haggling with drivers in the parking lot. A one-way trip will cost from 1500 rubles.

  If you are used to planning everything in advance, you can book a tourist transfer, and then the driver will meet you at the airport with a sign and deliver you to the hotel door. • Rent a car at the airport

  You can rent a car at the airport and get to Sevastopol on your own. It is convenient and profitable if you are actively traveling and want to get to know other resorts and attractions. If you plan to spend your entire vacation only in Sevastopol and without independent trips, then there is no point in renting a car, since you simply won't need it in the city. • By bus

  Frequent direct flights from 330 rubles depart from the airport bus station to Sevastopol, almost two and a half hours on the way. Scheduled departures are frequent, approximately every 10-30 minutes, including night flights. You can buy tickets on arrival at the ticket office of the bus station, but during the peak tourist season it makes sense to book tickets in advance for bus.tutu.ru.

  When buying, keep in mind that buses from the airport go both to the main bus station in the center and to the Northern bus station. We have already written about which bus station is better to choose in the section about buses above.

• By train/train

  If you want to take a ride by train, you can take a city bus or trolleybus at the airport to Simferopol railway station (aka Simferopol AC-2 / "Resort"). About 10 trains and trains depart from the railway station to Sevastopol per day, 2 hours on the way, the fare costs 128 rubles in 2023. You can check the schedule here. By train and train

You can get to Sevastopol directly by train from Moscow, St. Petersburg and cities along the way, as well as get by train from some cities of the peninsula. If there are no direct flights from your city, then you need to buy tickets to Sevastopol and transfer there by taxi, bus or train.

Because of the sanctions, the main Russian carrier RZD does not operate flights to Crimea, and therefore you need to search and buy tickets not on the RZD website, but on tutu.ru or on the company carrier's website Grand Service Express.

The railway station in Sevastopol is located near the center at 1 Vokzalnaya Street (railway station on the map). From here it is easy to get to the hotel in the center by taxi from 200 rubles, or by public transport for 26 rubles (see about Sevastopol transport and what to use). However, if you need to get to the north side on the beaches of Uchkuyevka, Lyubimovka, etc., you will first have to get to the center to Grafskaya pier, from there by ferry for 30 rubles to cross to the other side, and then take the bus again.

• By train with a transfer through Simferopol

  Since only two direct long-distance trains from Moscow and St. Petersburg go to Sevastopol, as an alternative, you can get here with a transfer in Simferopol. Tickets for trains to Simferopol should also be searched for and bought not on the Russian Railways website, but on tutu.ru or on the company carrier's website Grand Service Express.

  Upon arrival at Simferopol railway station, you can take a taxi to Sevastopol or book a transfer in advance with a driver meeting at the station via intui.travel.

  By train you can get there in just 128 rubles and an hour and a half. But they do not go often, and therefore you need to adjust to the schedule, see the schedule below.

  Another budget option is by bus. From the station you need to go on foot to the Kurortnaya bus station/Simferopol AC-2. Direct buses to Sevastopol cost from 300 rubles depart from it every 15-30 minutes. You can buy tickets for the Simferopol-Sevastopol railway station bus at bus.tutu.ru.

• By train from the cities of Crimea

To Sevastopol by car

By car from the regions of the Russian Federation to the Crimea, it is necessary to drive over the new Crimean Bridge, travel on it is free. Theoretically, the possibility of entry through the territory of Ukraine has been preserved, but we advise you not to even consider this option at the present time.

After entering the peninsula, you can get to Sevastopol by car using one of these routes:

• Via Simferopol. This route with a length of 300 kilometers runs along the new excellent Tavrida highway, which, with a good situation on the roads, can be overcome in 4-5 hours. Along the way, there are rest stops and new network gas stations on this highway.
• On the YBK through Koktebel, Sudak, Alushta, Yalta. This route is longer by 50 kilometers, but is considered more picturesque because it runs along the seashore along serpentines. But to drive it, you will need almost a full day of light, and possibly also an overnight stay along the way. Therefore, we recommend it only if you want to travel around the peninsula and visit other resorts and places along the way.

It is better to refuel in Crimea at local network gas stations Atan, Vesta, T-neft, Formula, Tobi, CRS, Redpetrol. Gasoline and diesel are about 5% higher here than on the mainland, so it's better to fill up a full tank before entering the bridge. At most local gas stations, you can pay in cash and by credit card without commission.
