What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Cape Fiolent
Cape Fiolent

Cape Fiolent is one of the brightest natural attractions of Sevastopol, which is not so rich in natural places and beauty. Fiolent is visited with pleasure not only by guests of Sevastopol, but also come here from other neighboring resorts, for example from Yalta.

Fiolent is located at the tip of the Heraclea Peninsula in the Balaklava district of Sevastopol. The reserve of the same name is also located here, and here begins the Main (Southern) ridge of the Crimean Mountains, which stretches for almost 200 kilometers along the entire southern coast of Crimea (YBK) and ends with Cape Ilya near Feodosia. Ie, we can say that it is here that the southern coast begins (well, or ends, as you like) Crimea.

Fiolent is of volcanic origin, formed by an ancient volcano that operated in the Middle Jurassic, about 152-163 million years ago. From the first and unprofessional glance, it is very difficult to recognize the remains of a volcano in this rocky cliff, because it is almost completely destroyed by the sea, winds and rains. But if you look closely, then on both sides of it on steep slopes you can see lava flows and tuff layers interspersed with minerals jasper, carnelian, chalcedony and others.

What to see on Fiolenta

Fiolent is, first of all, a beautiful natural view of the sea, which opens from observation points from a cliff height of about 140 meters. And first of all, in order to be at this extreme point at altitude, tourists go here. Most spend only a few minutes in this picturesque place, although in fact, besides the observation deck, there is a lot to see. We would generally advise you to plan a visit to Fiolent for a few hours or half a day to wander along the trails along the coast, go down to the sea to the wild Royal beach or relax on the Jasper Beach located a little to the side. Here are the most interesting objects on the cape and nearby that can be visited:

  • Viewing platforms

From several natural (not equipped) bird's-eye viewpoints, stunning views of the sea and steep cliffs open up. The heights here are from 120 to 140 meters. There are several viewing points here, and two of the most popular ones can be reached by car. They are located to the left a couple of hundred meters from the tip of the cape. By the way, newlyweds like to arrange professional photo shoots here, so don't be surprised if you see an old piano on a deserted cliff.

  • "Object Storm" and coastal batteries

At the very tip of the cape, at an altitude of 120 meters, there is a military telemetry point "Object Storm", several coastal batteries and a weather station. All this is behind barbed wire, and theoretically access is prohibited there. However, all this has long been abandoned, there is no security, and therefore some tourists, at their own risk, make their way through the barbed wire to visit the most extreme point of the cape and look at abandoned military facilities. We do not call for this, we just note that this opportunity exists.

  • The Royal Beach and Diana's Grotto

The secluded wild pebble Royal beach is located a kilometer to the left of the extreme point of the cape. An old metal staircase leads to it, along which you will have to overcome about 100 meters in height, and this is no less than about 35 floors. Tourists rarely get to this beach, but you can't call it completely deserted either. And nude sunbathers like to come here – nudists.

Diana's Grotto is a rock on Tsarskoye Beach with a through tunnel through which you can walk or swim. But we do not recommend doing this on your own, it is still very dangerous, because there are sharp rocks around. Sometimes kayak rentals appear on the beach for 500 rubles / hour, it is much safer to explore the grotto on them. You can also climb to the top of the rock forming the grotto. Read more about the Royal beach here.

  • Launching paragliders

From the high cliffs of the cape, lovers of free soaring like to fly to us by sea and along the coast. You can watch it from the side, or you can even arrange a flight, but only in private and with appropriate risks.

  • St. George's Monastery

This is an Orthodox men's monastery, which is believed to have been originally built in 891!!! You can get here from Fiolent by detour by road or on foot along the paths, but you will have to walk almost two kilometers. By the way, you can, on the contrary, come to the monastery, and from here go to the observation decks and to the other places described above. Learn more about St. George's Monastery here.

  • Jasper Beach

Down on the shore under St. George's Monastery is a beautiful pebble Jasper beach. To get to it, you will have to go down the stairs by as much as 170 meters. It is considered one of the most beautiful in Sevastopol, and according to some estimates even in the whole Crimea. Learn more about Jasper Beach here.

    🚶 How to get there

Fiolent is located on the outskirts of Sevastopol in Balaklava district, it is about 15 kilometers from the city center (Fiolent on the map). It will not be difficult to get here from the city center by city buses with a transfer, there is a direct bus from Balaklava. Also Fiolent, as one of the points of visit, is included in the route of many excursions from Sevastopol and other cities. You can buy an excursion with a visit to Fiolent on tripster.ru.

If you want to visit only the observation decks on the outskirts of the cape, then you can get here by car, a dirt road will lead you close to the observation decks. Here you can park your car (free of charge) and go for a walk to other attractions in these places, as we described above.

There are also buses No. 3, 24, 35, 79 coming here, but all not from the city center, and therefore you will most likely have to go with transfers. The most convenient place to transfer is the Sevastopol Cucumber interchange near the Simol shopping center/Sea Mall, where all four mentioned routes are passing, and many flights from the center come here. By the way, through the Sevastopol Cucumber and Simol/Sea Mall to Fiolent can be reached from other nearby resorts of the Crimea, including Yalta. From there you need to get to the stop "Tsarskoye Selo" or "Stvor", and then through the village on foot one and a half kilometers. Planning a trip on the bus with transfers can use Yandex maps, 2Gis, or Google maps, there are now lists all city routes. And in more detail about Sevastopol city transport and what to use here.

Another way that we like even more is if you decide to combine a visit to Fiolent with a vacation on Jasper Beach. To do this, you will need to get to St. George's Monastery, next to which there is ample parking for private transport. The same buses No. 3, 24, 35, 79 also go here to the Monastery stop, one kilometer from it to the monastery. Just do not need to go to the Fiolent stop, otherwise you will have to walk longer. From the monastery, a staircase leads down to the Jasper Beach, and from above, along the shore, you can walk along the paths to the observation and cape 2 kilometers, and another kilometer to the Royal Beach and Diana Grotto.

Well, another way to get to the cape is by boat by sea, for which walking tours from Balaklava are sent here. They land on beaches inaccessible by land, and you will also see the cape from the sea. But if you want to enjoy the views from the observation decks, you still have to climb 140 meters on foot.

We remind you that it is much more interesting to get acquainted with the sights of Sevastopol with the help of excursions, and therefore we advise you to look at online booking options on these proven search and price comparison sites:

Самое красивое место в Крыму!!! Добраться легко из центра, в принципе все тут написаное соответсвуте действительности, по этой инструкции и ехали. Но подниматься наверх с пляжа очень тяжело, обязательно берите с собой воду и оставьте на обратный путь. Мжно купить и на пляже. но цены там запредельные
