What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Jasper Beach is perhaps the most famous beach on Cape Fiolent, and at the same time the most inaccessible. To get to it, you will have to go down the steps to 170 meters, and go up the same amount after a rest. If you think that 170 meters is not much, then imagine that you need to go down and then climb to a height of 60 floors!!!
Despite the inaccessibility, Jasper Beach is never deserted. And this is not surprising, because according to reviews and estimates of tourists, this is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sevastopol and throughout the Crimea, and the most developed and equipped in the area of Cape Fiolent. In addition to the clear turquoise water and fascinating views of the steep cliffs, beauty is given by the view from the shore to a tiny rocky islet with a cross of worship. You can swim to this island, it is located 100 meters from the shore, and climb the metal ladder to the very top to the cross. From above, above the beach, there is one of the iconic sights of these places - St. George's Monastery with an excellent observation deck on the sea and shore, and less than two kilometers along the shore is the tip of the magnificent Cape Fiolent with viewing platforms.
The length of the Jasper beach is 350 meters. If you wish, you can go further to the right behind the protruding rock, and there will be a continuation, although you may be "asked" from there, because they say that this is a forbidden zone. And on the left end of the beach, nudists have chosen a place for themselves.
The water here is very clear, the waves are small. There are small pebbles on the shore, but the problem is that very large smooth stones come across at the water's edge and under water. That's why walking along the shore or even just standing in the water is very uncomfortable and painful, it's better to swim right away. From the amenities on the shore there is a changing cabin, there is a rental of deck chairs, catamarans, kayaks and surfboards for SUP-surfing, there is a temporary cafe with fast food and drinks at very high prices. But all this is only at the peak of the season in July and August, and the rest of the time none of this may not be. There is a toilet a little higher up the stairs, paid and very expensive – 50 rubles. In any case, going here it is better to bring water and something to eat, because there is no guarantee that the temporary cafe will work at the time of your rest. And also, take a beach umbrella with you if possible, since there is no shade here.
By the way, Jasper Beach got its name for a reason. The fact is that Cape Fiolent is of volcanic origin, formed by an ancient volcano that operated in the Middle Jurassic, about 152-163 million years ago. From the first and unprofessional glance, it is very difficult to recognize the remains of a volcano in this rocky cliff, because it is almost completely destroyed by the sea, winds and rains. But if you look closely, then on both sides of the cape on steep slopes you can see lava flows and tuff layers interspersed with minerals jasper, carnelian, chalcedony and others. You can see these minerals on the shore among the stones of ordinary pebbles, they are distinguished by a beautiful rich color and interspersed in the form of veins. Although it's not easy to find them now, because all the beautiful pebbles are taken by vacationers.

🚶 How to get there
Jasper beach is located in the Balaklava district of Sevastopol on Cape Fiolent, it is about 15 kilometers from the city center (Jasper beach on the map). You can get there by Sevastopol city buses, boats from Balaclavas or by private transport:
By bus from the center of Sevastopol, Balaklava and other resorts
It will not be difficult to get here from the city center by city buses with a transfer, there is a direct bus number 35 from Balaklava. You need to go to the stop "Monastery" (meaning St. George's Monastery), buses No. 3, 24, 35, 79 go to it, but all not from the city center. Therefore, you will most likely have to go with transplants. The most convenient place to transfer is the Sevastopol Cucumber interchange near the Simol shopping center/Sea Mall, where all four mentioned routes are passing, and many flights from the center come here. By the way, through the Sevastopol Cucumber and Simol/Sea Mall can be reached from other nearby resorts of the Crimea, including Yalta. Planning a trip on the bus with transfers can use Yandex maps, 2Gis, or Google maps, there are now lists all city routes. Read more about Sevastopol city transport and how tourists can travel here.
Upon arrival at the Monastery bus stop, you will have to walk 10-15 minutes to the monastery, and then down the stairs and down 170 meters, or, as tourists have calculated, almost 900 steps.
By boat from Balaklava
Tourist boats from Balaclava go to the beach, which will avoid the laborious descent and ascent of stairs to a height of 170 meters. But for such a pleasure you will have to fork out 250 rubles / person in one direction, 30-40 minutes on the way. Boats do not start on schedule, but on filling, or immediately if you are ready to pay for the whole boat at once. Since there is no schedule, upon arrival, check the time of departure back, so as not to be left alone on the shore with an endless staircase to the top.
By private car
To get to Jasper Beach by car, you need to go to St. George's Monastery. A full-fledged asphalt road leads directly to it, which ends with a spacious free parking. However, during the peak season it can also be full, and therefore you will have to look for a place on the alleys of the adjacent residential area, or on the parking lot on the Monastery highway before turning to the monastery. From this parking lot (on the Monastery highway) you will have to walk almost 1 kilometer to the stairs to the beach.
