Attractions in Larnaca are not very much, and in general we can say that this is not the best place for lovers of Antiquities, museums and natural beauty. But given the small scale of the country, during a holiday in Larnaca it will not be a problem to visit other more interesting places in the vicinity of the city and in other parts of Cyprus, which can be done in the form of a one-day or multi-day independent trip by bus, rented transport, or with excursions. Without problems in one day you can go to explore attractions in Limassol, Nicosia, Ayia Napa, and even visit Northern Cyprus via Nicosia or Famagusta. Theoretically, you can even go to Paphos, only for this you need to leave as early as possible in the morning, and even better plan a stop there for one or two days.
As for interesting places directly in Larnaca itself, here you can visit the Larnaca fortress museum, a modest Archaeological Park, two archaeological museums to choose from, the City Gallery, The Museum of Medicine. And the obligatory place that every guest of Larnaca should visit is St. Lazarus Cathedral. All these places can be visited independently, and on foot.
You can also visit places on the outskirts of the city on foot or by city buses: Larnaca Salt Lake, Hala Sultan Tekke mosque, Kamares Aqueduct and Pattichion Park. They are united by the popular walking route "the way of Aphrodite" with a length of 11 kilometers around the lake, so that those who like to walk will be able to enjoy nature and visit attractions along the way.
Getting acquainted with the sights of Cyprus is most interesting with a guide during the tour. You can pick up excursion options on the spot at travel agencies, or do it online at one of these trusted sites:
And here is a map of Larnaca with the sights marked on it, and from it you can download points in KMZ/KML format with all the sights of Cyprus for later use in a smartphone with Google Maps or offline map applications like Organic Maps or others. To download it, click the corresponding button at the top of the map.
As for distractions, Larnaca is inferior to Ayia Napa and Limassol in terms of their variety and number of entertainments, but you will not be bored on vacation here anyway. You can go diving (certified or without a certificate), undergo training and get a diver certificate. In coastal waters, you can also go snorkeling yourself, but for this it is better to look for rocky beaches and places near the rocks. Yacht trips along the coast and sea fishing are offered. On the beaches at the height of the season there are a lot of water activities such as banana riding, you can do more serious business and master windsurfing. With children, you can visit the large amusement park WOW Action Park, although it is far from the beach and the tourist center. In the evening, numerous cafes, restaurants and discos begin to work. The most famous night clubs of Larnaca: Club Deep, Time, XS Night & Day Club, Secrets Freedom Club.
And now a list and description of all the attractions of Larnaca, indicating their opening hours, the cost of visiting and ways to get to them:
Larnaca Castle
Larnaca fortress or the medieval castle of Larnaca (the Medieval Castle of Larnaca) – the central architectural and historical landmark of the city. The fortress is considered Ottoman (Turkish), although it was actually originally built by Europeans in the XIV century, but rebuilt by the Turks in the XVII century.
There is not much to see here, but in addition to the courtyard, cannons and fortifications, you can see a modest museum with medieval artifacts. Be sure to go up to the top of the fortress walls, there you can make a good photo of the embankment or selfie on the background of the coast. In general, the place is a 20-minute visit, but if you are here with a guide or download an audio guide on the internet, you will spend an hour with interest.
