Holidays in Polis

Polis is one of the most peaceful and quiet resorts in Cyprus, suitable exclusively for beach holidays. There are no attractions, a minimum of entertainment, but the beaches are the best in the entire area of Paphos. They are long, sandy mixed with pebbles, wide, and very sparsely populated even at the height of the season in the summer months. True, it's the same as everywhere else, just at the water's edge and under water pebbles, but here it is, at least, small and smooth. There are pure pebble beaches in the Polis area, so there will be plenty to choose from.

The infrastructure in Polis is quite developed, but not as well as in Paphos. The city center is located a little to the side about a kilometer from the coast, and it is in it that all the urban infrastructure is concentrated: banks, shops, government agencies. Tourists usually settle in tourist areas on one of the beaches of the coast of Polis. In these tourist areas, everything is developed more modestly, but the most necessary is there. • City center and Municipal Beach

  As already mentioned, the city center is about a kilometer from the coast, and for this reason it is not the best place to choose a hotel. Polis Municipal Beach is located within the city limits (municipal beach on the map), and if you have to choose a hotel, it is best to be near it, not in the center. The city beach itself is a strong three: long (one and a half kilometers), moderately clean, there is a conditional promenade in the form of a path. But Everything spoils the entry into the water on sharp stones, and in general the devastation and lack of grooming of the coastal strip. • Beach and area of Latchi (Latchi Beach)

  Latchi Beach or Latsi Beach, also found the name lathi-the most tourist place in Polis, which is worth choosing if you do not want to be in the middle of nowhere. It is located a couple of kilometers from the city center (Municipal Beach on the map. • Asprokremmos beach and Takas Bay

  This is a long two-kilometer beach 7 kilometers from the center of Polis towards the Akamas Peninsula (Asprokremmos Beach on the map). It is very clean and pristine, along its length there is almost nothing except rare hotels and restaurants with them. There are not even inexpensive cafes and shops. Accordingly, there are a minimum of vacationers here. Without rented transport, it is better not to stop here, otherwise you will be locked up only on the hotel and on the beach, and there will be nothing to do outside of them.

  

• Beaches east of Polis

  If you move further east from the city along the road that runs close to the coast, you will drive along an endless chain of beaches (beaches in the east of Polis on the map). But there is no infrastructure, except for rare hotels and cafes, and very rare shops here. The beaches are sandy and pebbly, but cleaned and suitable for swimming only in front of hotels. Locals like to go here for a weekend vacation, and if you decide to go to these parts for the full time of your vacation, then there is a risk of dying of boredom.

  

There are a lot of hotels in Polis: about two hundred with all the adjacent beaches. But there is not a single budget accommodation or hostel. Single travelers will have to pay for a double room in any case, which will cost from 30 euros per night. You can save on accommodation in the policy if you use the rental of private housing, and this, by the way, is even the best option for family accommodation. But keep in mind that accommodation in private apartments is usually more profitable only with a long stop of 7 days.

Polis weather and tourist seasons

Since Polis is mainly a beach resort, the tourist season is tied here to the temperature of the air, water, and the ability to swim and sunbathe comfortably.

• The high tourist season in Polis runs from the end of May to October. In these months there is almost no precipitation, the air and water temperature is high, you can swim and sunbathe with pleasure and comfort. Some tourists come to rest in Polis in April, which makes sense to do if you want to save money, since housing prices at this time have not yet risen to seasonal. Attractions and entertainment of Polis, what to see and do

Polis is not the best place for lovers of attractions. If you can not imagine a holiday without visiting museums, archaeological parks, walking through the ruins, then it is better to choose another place in Cyprus, for example, to stay in the center of Paphos. In the policy itself, you can count on your fingers. In the center of the town is the Greek Orthodox Church Apostle Andreas Orthodox Church, and the local archaeological museum Archaeological Museum of Marion-Arsinoe (entrance 2.5 euros), and that's it.

Near Polis there are two iconic natural attractions of Cyprus - Akamas Peninsula and reserve and Aphrodite's bath. In the evening in Polis you can sit in one of the restaurants at the hotels or cafes with fresh and seafood, which are brought by fishermen to the port of Latchi. But there are no discos and late-night bars here.

How to get to Polis

Polis is one of the most remote resorts in Cyprus, not counting the territory of Northern Cyprus, of course (Polis town on the map). From the airport of Paphos to it go 50 kilometers, and from the main international airport of the country Larnaca, 170 kilometers. There is not even a direct intercity bus service to Polis with other cities and airports, you will have to go with a transfer in Paphos.

  Upon arrival at one of the airports, you can get to the place of rest in Polis by taxi, rented transport, or buses with transfers.

  A taxi ride from Paphos airport will cost 42-50 euros day / night. From Lanraki airport, a taxi will cost 125/146 euros.

  From Paphos airport there is a direct city bus number 649, but it runs only 4 times a day, the journey is one and a half hours, here's the schedule and route #649. The fare on it is 1.5 euros.

  Larnaca airport there are no direct buses, you have to go through Paphos or its airport. It is best to go to the airport of Paphos, and there take the mentioned bus number 649. Between the airports, the long-distance corporate bus Kapnos Airports Shuttle runs at a cost of 15 euros for adults, and 5 euros for children 3-12 years old, 1.5 hours on the way.   Given all these difficulties with transfers and the high cost of a taxi, the most profitable and convenient way to get to the policy from the airports will be to rent a car. In addition, you will probably need a car in order to move around the resort and its surroundings, but on the spot the rent will cost much more. In general, Cyprus has the cheapest prices for renting a car at Larnaca airport, and a little more expensive at Paphos airport. For example, in the spring of 2020, we (the authors of the site) rented a car for 7 days at Larnaca airport for only 30 euros!!! • By bus

  As already mentioned, there are no intercity buses to Polis, you can only get there by city buses from Paphos. As a result, all bus routes to Polis will pass with a transfer through Paphos or its airport.

  From Paphos there are the following city routes:

  • №649. from Paphos airport via the city centre. Walks only 4 times a day.
  • №641, from the bus station Karavella Station, aka OSYPA Terminal (bus station on the map). Walks 2 times a day.
  • №645, from the bus station Karavella Station, aka OSYPA Terminal. Walks 8 to 12 times a day.

  Travel on all routes costs 1.5 euros during the day, 2.5 at night, children under 6 years old are free.

  

Transport in Polis, how to get around

In Polis there are several routes of city buses, but they go though on schedule, but very rarely. Some only ship twice a day, so it's far from the best way to get around. Travel in them costs 1.5 euros during the day, 2.5 euros at night, children under 6 years old are free. Payment only in cash to the driver at the entrance. There are day passes for 5 euros.

In Polis, you can rent a car, ATV or buggy (for trips to the mountainous areas and Akamas reserves), a bicycle.
