About Limassol
Limassol (also Limassol or Lemesos) - a city and resort on the southern coast of Cyprus roughly midway between Larnaca and Paphos, and the country's two international airports (Limassol on the map). It is the economic center and the largest city in Cyprus by population, it is home to a little more than 100 thousand people. At the same time, it is considered the most Russian city in the country, since according to various estimates, from 7 to 20 percent of Russian speakers from different countries of the former USSR live here permanently. Many of them own real estate and businesses here, including hotel complexes or hostels, or rent out housing. Russian in Limassol can not only be heard on local radio or television, but also seen on store signs, in advertising, and even on road signs.
However, along with the size and development of Limassol, it has the disadvantages of large cities. There are often traffic jams on the roads, there are not enough parking places. On the streets you can often see dirt, or beggars sleeping right on the sidewalks. Since this is an economic center, it is here that refugees, guest workers, and people from poor countries in Africa and Asia rush to work. Whole diasporas have formed here, which, although they coexist peacefully and do not create any problems for tourists, still create discomfort. Traces of the financial crisis, which the country has not been able to recover from for many years, are manifested in Limassol as nowhere else in the Republic of Cyprus: there are many abandoned buildings, unfinished, unkempt streets.

Recreation
Limassol is the most democratic resort in Cyprus. Here you can go for a beach holiday, and for entertainment, and to see the sights of the city or get acquainted with interesting places in this part of the island. It is equally suitable for young people who love parties, and families with children, and the elderly. But in order for the rest and the environment to be appropriate, you need to choose the right place for accommodation.
Limassol consists of the city center itself and several remote areas/beaches, and depending on the place, the nature of the holiday also changes. So, in the center you will find yourself near the city attractions and promenade. If you stop near the city beaches, you will find yourself in a slightly quieter environment and within walking distance of the sandy beaches, but you will have to walk or take a bus to the city center. And if you need a relaxing beach holiday in an almost rustic setting, then you can choose one of the remote areas/villages of Limassol. Learn more about the districts of Limassol read here.
Infrastructure
Limassol is the most developed city in Cyprus, including its well-developed tourist infrastructure. True, you need to understand that this is still a residential city, and not just a resort. Therefore, unlike the purely tourist Ayia Napa, for example, here the tourist infrastructure is "smeared" over long distances.
The most compact travel agencies, car rental, ticket sales, souvenir shops and shops with goods for tourists, offers of other tourist services are concentrated in the very center near the promenade of Molos and the Marina of Limassol. There is also a Tourist Information Center where you can get free city maps, get advice, or join a weekly free walking tour of the city (Travel Information Office on the map). Diving centers will have to look for addresses, as there are few of them, and they are scattered throughout the ten-kilometer coast.
There are a lot of restaurants and cafes anywhere. On the embankment and beaches, prices are higher, in order to eat more economically, you can go away from the coast deep into the city. Relatively inexpensive (but more expensive than in Russia) you can eat in international chain restaurants McDonalds and Burgerking, but there are not very many of them, you will have to search the map. If you really need to save money, you can cook yourself, for which most hostels, guest houses and apartments are equipped with a separate or shared kitchen.
There are many large shopping centers and supermarkets in the city, but they are mostly far from the beach area, you will have to go to them. In the tourist area, you can buy souvenirs, original gifts, antiques and even works of art on the pedestrian street Agiou Andreou. Products are sold in a large number of small stores like minimarkets. Prices in them are slightly higher than in large hypermarkets, but you do not need to go anywhere, everything is nearby.
You can exchange dollars or rubles in Limassol without problems, the exchange rate is not bad. At least better than at airports, and even a little better than at all other resorts, however, the exchange of rubles is still not very profitable, it is better to change them at home. The most profitable exchange rate we met on Agiou Andreou, but perhaps there are other places with a good rate.
There are a lot of ATMs, they are found almost at every step, but remember about the commission that will be withheld for withdrawal. It is better, if possible, to pay in stores and for tourist services immediately with a card than to withdraw cash. By the way, you can pay with a card almost everywhere, but in some stores there are restrictions on the minimum purchase by card, for example, in 10 euros.
Market exchange rate (euro) for today ()
- 10 евро (EUR) = 837,48 rubles (RUB)
- 1 US dollar (USD) = 0,86 EUR
- 100 rubles (RUB) = 1,19 EUR
- 1 euro (EUR) = 1,00 EUR
Real currency exchange rate *
- 1 US dollar (USD) ≈ 0,84 - 0,86 EUR
- 1 euro (EUR) ≈ 0,98 - 1,00 EUR
* - The real exchange rate is calculated taking into account the fees charged by exchange offices and banks for the exchange. It can also be higher than the calculated one, but if you are offered an exchange rate lower than this, it's a reason to think about finding another place to exchange.

Limassol weather and tourist seasons
- The high tourist season and beach holiday season in Limassol starts at the end of May, and lasts until the end of October. Some tourists begin to arrive in April, or come in November, but these months are already too cold for swimming, although you can sunbathe and walk comfortably.
- The low tourist season or off-season runs from November to April. This is not the time for a beach holiday, but the best time to travel around the country and explore the sights. Spring (March and April) and autumn (October and November) are especially good. These are already warm enough months to walk in a T-shirt or light jacket, and attractions and hotels are not crowded with tourists. But do not forget to take warm clothes, in the evenings it can be very cold. Also in these months there may be frequent but short-term rains.

How to get to Limassol
Limassol is conveniently located roughly midway between the country's two international airports (not counting North Cyprus airport, of course), and occupies a central position in relation to all the major resorts and cities in Cyprus (Limassol on the map). It is connected to both airports and other resorts by intercity bus service.
It is equally convenient to get to Limassol by plane through Larnaca and Paphos airports. But Larnaca airport is still preferable, since it has more direct flights from Russia and other countries, and they are cheaper.
When buying tickets, by the way, keep in mind that if you plan to arrive in the country on a pro-visa issued online, you must arrive strictly by direct flight from the Russian Federation.
