Limassol consists of several neighborhoods and beaches, including those far outside the city itself in the greater Limassol area. And it is obvious that the nature and success of your holiday will depend on the successful location of the hotel or accommodation. Please note that in the search and booking systems for hotels and when searching for tours, Limassol may also include its remote areas, which in fact are tens of kilometers from the center. To be sure that you will stay in the place you are interested in, check the position on such sites directly on the site, and read reviews. The latter is important as some accommodation properties, especially private apartments, have been seen to deliberately manipulate the location of the accommodation on the map to show it in a more favourable light.
So, directly in the city of Limassol, the tourist area and the best places to choose a hotel are located along the coast, and it is here that tourists can best settle. This whole tourist area along the coast stretches for 10 kilometers!!! Along it there are many city buses, on which it is easy to move for 1.5 euros, children under 6 years old are free. Payment is made only in cash.
Here you can choose from two options:
Center and promenade
The very center of the city and a hangout place is the area next to Molos promenade and Marina (center of Limassol on the map). But here there are no beaches at all, but there is a walking street and the embankment itself, city attractions, travel agencies, car rental, shops, restaurants and other tourist infrastructure. So if the beaches are not the main thing for you, and you are ready to walk a couple of kilometers to them or take a bus/car, then the center will definitely suit you. In addition, there are the most expensive options for budget tourists, there are hostels.
But it must be borne in mind that this is the dirtiest and most hectic zone in the city. In the evenings, all sorts of suspicious persons loiter here, the poor sleep on the beach, there are often large groups of young people from the poorest countries of Africa and Asia, refugees. And it is also an inconvenience – very little free parking in case you decide to rent a car.
City beaches
If it is more important for you to be closer to the beach, then it is better to settle not in the center, but where the city beaches begin. And they begin immediately after the embankment ends, and stretch almost continuously for many kilometers (Limassol city beaches on the map). There are many city beaches, they are called as they move away from the center: Akti Olympion A, Akti Olympion B, Miami Beach, DaNala Beach, Dasoudi Beach, Santa Barbara Beach, Armonia Beach, Vouppa Beach, Aphrodite Beach, Loures Beach, Parekklisia Beach. Dasoudi Beach has been considered the best and most equipped for several years, so you can stay closer to it. But in general, wherever you stay, you will be within walking distance of free and equipped city beaches. As for the infrastructure, everything is there, just as it moves away from the center, of course, it deteriorates.
In addition to the city limits in Limassol, you can settle on remote beaches and tourist areas where there are hotels and at least some tourist life. The atmosphere here is much calmer, so these places are ideal for a serene holiday with the family, or for the elderly:
Governor's and Kalymnos Beach
These two beaches are located far from Limassol in a bay next to each other, there is no clear border between them. Nearby is a developing residential and tourist area, known among locals as a village, where a lot of immigrants from the Russian Federation are owners of real estate, so there is an opportunity to visit here not only in the hotel, but also in rented housing.
Compared to the city center, it is a very quiet place, almost a village. What is good, there are no extra people like refugees, guest workers, representatives of diasporas from Africa and the Middle East (with all due respect to their work, but they do not come to Limassol for rest).
Located 25 kilometers from Limassol (Governor's and Kalymnos Beach on the map). Nearby there is free parking for rented transport. You can also take the city bus number 95A, but note that it only runs in high season once a day, here is the schedule. The schedule is convenient, you can come in the morning and return in the evening.
Pissouri beach and village (Pissoury Beach)
Pissouri Beach is not only a remote beach, but also a separate resort area where you can settle for the whole time of your stay. There are many beach and water activities, you can go snorkeling and diving (there is a diving center), and in general the beach is well equipped: free changing rooms, showers and toilets, sun beds and umbrellas for rent.
Pissouri is a beach resort, and its main "feature" is that it is an exceptionally cozy place. It is small, everyone knows each other, and you, too, after a few days of rest here will feel like your own. At the same time, despite the calm village atmosphere, this is a very clean and tourist-developed place. There is a travel agency and a diving center, small shops with food and basic necessities (there are no large supermarkets and shopping centers), boutiques with tourist goods and souvenirs. You can eat in one of about a dozen taverns, there is even a restaurant of exotic Indian cuisine.
Pissouri Beach is 35 kilometers from Limassol (Pissouri Beach on the map). Learn more about Pissouri Resort and how to get to the beach here.
