General information about Peyia

Peyia (Peyia, also Pegeia) - this is a small town (more like a village) on the west coast of Cyprus, part of a vast area Paphos. Located 15 kilometers from the center of Paphos (Peyia on the map), and is often considered as its remote area and beach, although in fact it is already an independent full-fledged beach resort for recreation. Here are two the best beaches of all Paphos: Coral Bay Beach and Laourou Beach. The village is quite large in size, stretches along the coast for almost 15 kilometers, but all the tourist life of this resort is concentrated in the area of Coral Bay Beach.

To go on vacation in Peyia is only for the sake of a beach holiday. There are no attractions, tourist attractions and parties here. But, nevertheless, at least some tourist life is present here: there are travel agencies, car rental, shops with goods for tourists, cafes and restaurants, and even supermarkets. Almost all of this is concentrated in the Coral Bay Beach area, and outside it is an ordinary village with a quiet way of life. In general, we can say that Peyia is a cross between a holiday in the slightly noisy city limits of Paphos, and a very quiet holiday in the remote Polis town.

Peyia weather and tourist seasons

Peyia is primarily a beach resort, so the rest here is best tied to the bathing season.

• The high tourist season in Peyia runs from the end of May to October. These are the driest and warmest months, you can swim and sunbathe. Some vacationers come to rest in Cyprus in April, which makes sense to do if you want to save money, since housing prices at this time have not yet risen to seasonal. The above places can be visited independently by city bus or on foot, but all this is only a small part of the attractions that can be seen during a holiday at the resort. True, the rest are already outside the village and belong to Paphos and its environs, so you will have to visit them by rented car or with excursions. How to get to Peyia

Peyia is part of Paphos (Peyia on the map), connected to it by frequent city bus service. There are no direct buses from other cities of Cyprus here, you will have to change in any case. The nearest airport to Peyia is Paphos airport, much further away is Larnaca's main international airport. But about everything in order:

• By plane

  It is most convenient to get to Peyia through Paphos airport, but there are few direct flights from the Russian Federation to it, the price of flights is expensive. It is much cheaper to fly to Larnaca airport, and from there to get to the resort.

  If you plan to enter the country on a free online pro-visa (see all about Cyprus visa), your flight must be direct, transfers even through European countries are not accepted. There are no such requirements for the departure flight, so you can select a separate direct flight to Kirp, and a return flight with a transfer, so sometimes it is even cheaper than a ready-made direct round-trip flight:

  • To Peyia from Paphos airport

    A trip from Paphos airport by taxi will cost 24/28 euros day/night.

    Cheaper can be reached by city buses, but you will have to make a transfer in Paphos. The fare in each bus costs 1.5 euros, at night 2.5 euros, children under 6 years old are free. Paid in cash at the entrance to the driver.

    First you need to take the bus number 612, it goes about every hour, see schedule. Go to the terminus of Kato Paphos station (bus station on the map). From this station there is a very frequent bus number 615 to Coral Bay, here is schedule. Coral Bay is likely to be your final destination, most of the Otley and generally tourist area are here. But if your hotel is located somewhere further away, you can also use local buses along Peyia, about them below in the section about transport.

  • Peyia from Larnaca airport

    A taxi from Larnaca airport to Peyia will cost 107/125 euros day/night.

    Intercity buses will have to go with transfers through Paphos or Paphos airport. Travel will have to be paid at Intercity rates. In any case, you will have to make at least two transplants.

    1. In Larnaca airport take the company bus Kapnos Airports Shuttle costs 15 euros for adults, and 5 euros for children 3-12 years, the journey is 1.5 hours.     2. From Larnaca airport we get directly to Paphos, as detailed here. In Paphos you will arrive at the bus station Karavella Station, aka OSYPA Terminal (bus station on the map. From there, take the city bus to the bus station Kato Paphos station (bus station on the map), from where on the already familiar bus number 615 to Coral Bay.

  Given all these difficulties with transfers and the high cost of a taxi, the most profitable and convenient way to get to Peyia from both airports will be to rent a car. In general, Cyprus has the cheapest prices for renting a car at Larnaca airport, and a little more expensive at Paphos airport, you only need to book a car in advance via the Internet. For example, in the spring of 2020, we (the authors of the site) rented a car for 7 days at Larnaca airport for only 30 euros!!!, while on the streets of resorts we asked for 30 euros for one day. • By bus

  You can only get to Peyia from other cities of Cyprus by bus with a transfer through Paphos, there are no direct flights. Moreover, inside the city of Paphos still have to make a transfer between bus stations. For prices and schedules of intercity buses to Paphos, see here.

  All intercity buses arrive in Paphos at the bus station Karavella Station, aka OSYPA Terminal (bus station on the map). From there, take the city bus to the bus station Kato Paphos station (bus station on the map), from where bus # 615, already familiar above, goes to Coral Bay. Buses between these two stations run frequently, about 20 minutes on the way, the fare costs 1.5 euros.

  

Transportation in Peyia, how to get around

There are several city bus routes in PEI that are part of the Paphos city transport system. They go on schedule, but quite rarely with the exception of the main flight No. 615. The fare is 1.5 euros during the day, 2.5 euros at night, children under 6 years old are free. Payment only in cash to the driver at the entrance. There are day passes for 5 euros.

These routes will be useful for tourists:

• №615. From the tourist area of Paphos to Coral Bay. They go about every hour.
• №616. From Coral Bay through the entire center of Peyia and along the shore. You can drive to local attractions and a zoo.
• № 648, From Coral Bay through downtown Peyia to Polis town. Walks 3 times a day.

In Peyia, you can rent cars, motorbikes (Low-Power Motorcycle, Scooter), bicycles. Oddly enough, but the cheapest option is to rent a car, in low season it is even cheaper than a bicycle. But on the spot in the resort, rental prices are very high, you need to book in advance via the Internet, and pick up the car at the airport or at least in the center of Paphos.
