Hotels and accommodation in Paphos, accommodation features
As in general in Cyprus, the cost of accommodation in Paphos is high by Russian standards, there is not enough budget accommodation for single independent travelers. A bed in a few hostels in Paphos will cost from 15 euros when booking in advance, and if you are looking for accommodation in high season (summer) for a few days, you will most likely have to pay from 20 euros, or even book a room for two. But even if you manage to find a hostel, then you will have to live in it not with vacationing travelers, but with seasonal workers or guest workers, most often immigrants from Ukraine and the countries of the former USSR. By the way, the staff of almost all hostels speaks Russian, since they also come from the former USSR countries. Most of the hostels are located in the area of Kato Pafos( Kato Pafos), on the beaches of the hostels we did not meet.
Things are much better with full-fledged rooms for accommodation for two. There are a lot of such options, you can find them in different areas and on beaches. For a room for two with minimal amenities and a shared bathroom on the floor will have to pay from 20 euros, for a comfortable room with a private bathroom, air conditioning, TV will have to pay from 30 euros, but this is the minimum price that you will receive when booking in advance.
In Paphos there is a good selection of rental housing, which is sometimes more convenient and cheaper than a hotel room. In the rented accommodation you will have your own bathroom, full kitchen, and access to the apartment at any time of the day. Housing (room or apartment) can be found and rented via the Internet on the search and booking sites for hotels or Housing (see the list below), but note that in the high season (summer) tenants are reluctant to rent it for a short time, you will have to take at least a week or several weeks.

Areas and beaches of Paphos where it is better to stay
Paphos is divided into two large areas, and includes several beaches located in its vicinity. Also, some guidebooks sometimes refer to Paphos as neighboring villages, and even the city of Polis, but the conversation about Polis is separate (see Polis guidebook here...), it is too far away.
The type of your holiday will depend on which area/beach you will settle in. But in general, Paphos is not the best beach resort in Cyprus, it is rather interesting as a place to explore the sights. There are a couple of places in the city center where you can swim and sunbathe, but more or less satisfactory beaches are outside the city. In general, for a beach holiday it is best to go to other resorts in Cyprus.
The city itself is divided into two areas Kato Pafos (Kato Pafos) or Pano Pafos (Pano Pafos), most often tourists choose a stop in Kato Pafos, and we also recommend it, because it is in it that most of the attractions are located. If you want something quite unusual, you can settle in a quiet atmospheric village Geroskipou (Geroskipou). Well, if you come here for a beach holiday, it is best to choose a hotel on one of the beaches. Here is more about each of the areas/beaches of Paphos:
-
Kato Pafos (Kato Pafos)
Kato Paphos or lower Paphos is the most convenient and popular area for tourists (Kato Paphos district on the map). Most of the attractions are located here, and all of them can be viewed on foot. The main tourist infrastructure is also concentrated here: Cheap Hotels, Travel Agencies, car rental, cafes, bars and restaurants. Here, in the season, the whole tourist party takes place, if you can call it that, since most of the guests of the resort are elderly people.

Pano Pafos (Pano Pafos)
Pano Paphos or upper Paphos (also called Ktima) is a large district of the city, in fact its center (panopafos district on the map). Here, too, there are many options for accommodation, and they are cheaper than in Kato, but there is no special tourist infrastructure and atmosphere. It is worth settling here only if you could not find accommodation in the Kato area, or if you have a business trip.

Coral Bay and Laourou Beach
These two beaches are next to each other and 15 kilometers from Paphos (Coral Bay on the map). They can be considered as an independent tourist area for accommodation, if you are primarily interested in beach holidays. Although they are far from the city center, there is everything for recreation: Hotels, Travel Agencies, cafes, restaurants, shops, car rental. But the most important thing is a great sandy beach, or rather, as many as two to choose from. The beaches are equipped, there are umbrellas, sun beds, cafes, toilets, showers, changing rooms, and even water activities in high season. You can get from here to the center of Paphos by bus number 615 for 1.5 euros.
Coral Bay Beach -
Lighthouse Beach or Faros Beach
Lighthouse Beach or Lighthouse Beach, aka Faros Beach is the main place for a beach holiday in the city if you are staying in Kata Paphos or Pano Paphos (Lighthouse Beach or Pharos Beach on the map). On the map you can see that this is a very long beach, but in fact only a small area with a length of just over 100 meters is suitable for swimming and relaxing, everything else is a rocky shore where you can swim at your own risk.
The beach is Sandy, the sand is Yellow, large. The water can not be called perfectly clean here, as, indeed, the coast itself: a lot of algae that are thrown ashore by waves, and they do not always have time to clean up. Umbrellas and sun beds are offered for rent, there is a cafe, no water Entertainment.
Lighthouse Beach (low season) -
Rikkos Beach
Rikos Beach (also called Aphrodisiac Beach and Geroskipu Beach) is located outside the city five kilometers from the center (Ricos Beach on the map). This is not a district, but just a good Long Beach for a day holiday. It is better to go here vsgeo by taxi or rented transport, but there is also bus # 606, runs several times a day from the bus station in the tourist area of Kato Paphos, costs 1.5 euros.
Ricos Beach is long, almost one kilometer. The sand is yellow, coarse, mixed with shells and pebbles, but on the shore and under water mainly pebbles and stones. There are a couple of cafes, in the season in the evening there is even a night club-bar. On the shore there are sun beds and umbrellas for rent, shower and toilet, lifeguard towers work.
Ricos Beach -
Aphrodite's Bay Beach
In Aphrodite Bay on both sides of the stone of Aphrodite stretches a long Pebble Beach. It is unfurnished, there is no infrastructure at all, but it is a great place to relax during the day from Paphos or Limassol. The beauty of this place is that if you go a little further from the popular attractions Aphrodite's Stone, it will be a completely deserted beach. No one and nothing places rest. There are no hotels or any infrastructure even near the beach except for a shop and a cafe in the parking lot next to the Aphrodite stone.
You can only get here by rented transport or taxi, there are no buses (beach in Aphrodite Bay on the map). The car is best left in the spacious free parking next to the Aphrodite Stone, and go to the beach via an underground passage.

Vrisoudia Beach
This is a beach in the city limits in the area of Kato Paphos (Vrisoudia Beach on the map). It is also sometimes called SODAP Beach. Sandy, with fine yellow sand. It stretches along the coast and the embankment for almost a kilometer, and along this length it is very different in arrangement and quality. There are rocky areas, there are pure Sandy, there are with infrastructure and sun beds, and there are completely unfurnished. You can walk along it along the concrete embankment, and choose a suitable place for yourself.
Vrisudia Beach -
Pissouri Beach
Pissouri Beach is formally Limassol, but is also visited with pleasure by tourists from Paphos (Pissouri Beach on the map). Pissouri is a small town (village), and an independent resort almost 40 kilometers from Paphos, and here you can come to relax on the beach during the day. Ask why go to such a distance. And the fact is that there are a lot of beach and water activities, you can do snorkeling and diving (there is a diving center), and in general the beach is well equipped: free changing rooms, showers and toilets, sun beds and umbrellas for rent. Entrance to the beach is free.

Pissouri Beach
In addition to those listed, there are several small hotel beaches in the city (access to them is not limited), and many long, but unfurnished beaches outside the city. On the equipped beaches there are toilets, showers, rental of sun loungers and umbrellas. The cost is almost the same everywhere-2.5 (2.91 USD, see about money (and Exchange Rate) for the whole day. In total, a set of two sun loungers and one umbrella will cost 7.5 euros (8.72 USD). But you can come to the beach with your portable umbrella and an air mattress or litter. The cost of the toilet and the use of the shower depend on the place: somewhere free, and somewhere 1 euro.
The influence of tides on the beaches in Paphos is minimal, almost does not appear and does not interfere with beach holidays. Nevertheless, if this question is important to you, you can see the forecast of tides in Limassol for the next six months.
