Holidays in Paphos
Paphos is the most peaceful resort city of the four largest resorts in Cyprus (Limassol, Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Paphos). This is one of those places where you should go first of all in order to get acquainted with the sights and history of the island, or just have a quiet time. There are several important archaeological parks and museums, historical ruins and ancient temples, colorful traditional villages and natural attractions. The historic district of the city with all its monuments is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
But this does not mean that in Paphos there is no beach holiday at all, it's just that it is much less developed here, and there are few good beaches. The beaches here, unfortunately, are mostly Pebble-Sandy, you can even say Stone-Sandy. The entrance to the water is inconvenient, even on clean sandy beaches, many stones are hidden under the water. On the equipped beaches there are toilets, showers, rental of sun loungers and umbrellas. The cost is almost the same everywhere-2.5 (218 USD) for the whole day. In total, a set of two sun loungers and one umbrella will cost 7.5 euros (655 USD). But you can come to the beach with your portable umbrella and an air mattress or litter. The cost of the toilet and the use of the shower depend on the place: somewhere free, and somewhere 1 euro.
But there are also pluses: going on vacation in Paphos you will find yourself both near the beaches and near the sights. So this is a kind of golden mean, where there is something to do, and it is not too noisy. For this reason, Paphos is often chosen for recreation by the elderly and families with children, and old-timers call it a "retirement resort". True, going here with children, keep in mind that there will be nothing to occupy them here, there is very little entertainment for children.
You need to clearly understand that the whole of Paphos consists of several areas, and the choice of the right place will depend on the nature of your holiday. The most developed tourist and urban area is Kata Paphos. But the beaches here are so-so, only urban along the embankment. But this is the most party and atmospheric place: a lot of tourists, there are bars with music and restaurants that work late. The second most popular and developed place is the beaches of Coral Bay. This is an exclusively Beach area with a good sandy beach (or rather, two). Better yet, check out An overview of the beaches and areas of Paphos here to choose the right place to stay.
Infrastructure in Paphos
The tourist infrastructure in Paphos is well developed, at least no worse than in any other Cyprus resort. Especially a lot of "tourist" in the area of Kato Pafos (Kato Pafos) and on the beach Coral Bay (Coral Bay). There are cafes and restaurants for tourists, rental vehicles and travel agencies, you can find currency exchange and ATMs. Very many tourist points have Russian-speaking consultants, prices in Russian, and even the signs of many institutions are duplicated in Russian.
You can buy basic necessities and products in small stores, but cheaper in supermarkets. In the area of Kato Pafos there are at least two economy supermarkets: Poplife (locals recommend it as the cheapest), Papantoniou (a large supermarket with Russian-speaking staff). Coral Bay also has a couple of supermarkets, and a huge number of small shops with goods for tourists along the road to the beach. There are no large shopping centers and boutiques here, so for serious shopping it is better to go to other resorts, or at least to the city center in the non-tourist area of Pano Paphos.
Currency exchange and ATMs can be found without problems, but remember that a considerable Commission will be withheld for cash withdrawals, and the exchange of rubles will be very unprofitable. It is best to come here with cash euros. You can pay with a card in most shops and hotels without problems.

There are enough options for accommodation here, but budget options and hostels can be counted on your fingers. But there are many expensive hotels with Category 4 and 5 stars with their own territory and swimming pool.

Weather in Paphos and tourist seasons
Depending on the purpose for which you want to visit Paphos, the season will be different:
- Paphos beach holiday season it starts at the end of May and lasts until the end of October. Outside of these months, it is theoretically also possible to swim, but it will not be a very comfortable rest, but rather hardening. In extreme cases, you can come for a beach holiday in April, but at this time you can sunbathe, but not swim, because the water is still very cold. At the same time, keep in mind that July and August are very hot months, and it is better to avoid them if possible.
- In order to get acquainted with the sights you can come to Paphos at any time of the year, but the best time will be spring (March and April) and autumn (October and November). These are already warm enough months to walk in a T-shirt or light jacket, and attractions and hotels are not crowded with tourists. However, going here even at this time, be sure to take warm clothes with you. Also in these months there may be frequent but short-term rains.

Paphos is considered the center of attractions in Cyprus, and it is here that you are advised to go if you prefer to get acquainted with history and culture, walk in archaeological parks and visit museums. This is true, but you need to understand that objectively there are not so many attractions within the Paphos itself. To get around all the city attractions within the tourist area, it will take no more than two days. Here, for example, is a two-day visit program:
- Day one. Visit the Archaeological Park and the archaeological or ethnographic museum (the Archaeological Museum is under renovation in 2020).
- Day two. Walk around the free attractions in the tourist area of Kata Paphos (catacombs of St. Solomonia, Paphos Castle, Mount Factory, etc.), as well as go to the Royal Tombs.
With a great desire and the availability of transport, all this can be viewed even in one full day, however, almost on the run.
But many interesting places are located in the vicinity of Paphos. These are colorful traditional villages and ancient Temples, archaeological parks and ruins, natural attractions and beaches. From here it is also convenient to go with a tour or by rented car to the mountainous region of Trodos.
To get acquainted with the sights in the vicinity of Paphos, you will either have to rent a car, or master the expensive and not very convenient public transport. An excellent alternative would be group or individual excursions, they are offered in Paphos everywhere in travel agencies on the street. But today it is more convenient to search and book them via the Internet, which can be done on these proven excursion search sites with reviews:

Transport in Paphos, how to get around
The tourist area of Kata Paphos, where most of the city's attractions are located, is very compact, easy to get around on foot. In general, to see all the interesting places in the area without transport, it will take no more than one day. In order to get acquainted with the sights outside the city, or visit clean beaches in the suburbs, you will have to use buses, taxis, or rent transport.
Taxis in Paphos and Cyprus in general-expensive transport. Even a short trip will cost 5 euros. You can order cars through the applications nTaxi or Bolt( Taxify), catch just on the street. Uber doesn't work here.
Travel on city buses costs 1.5 euros, for children under 6 years old for free. At night, travel costs 2.5 euros. But what is bad, the cost does not depend on the distance, and it does not matter whether you drive one stop, or will drive almost an hour to the policy. To save money, it makes sense to buy a one-day pass for 5 euros, or a weekly pass for 20 euros. Paying for a bus ride or buying tickets at the ticket office only in cash, bank cards are not accepted. In general, Autobuses are the most inconvenient way to move: they go though on schedule, but very rarely.
In Paphos, you can rent a car, quad bike (for trips to the mountains), motorbike (low-power scooter or motorcycle), or bicycle. Oddly enough, but the cheapest option is to rent a car. For example, in low season it is even cheaper than renting a bicycle. But to get a low price for a car, you must make a reservation in advance via the Internet, and it is advisable to get a car at the airport, and not in the city.
