General information, recreation, infrastructure
The village of Platres (Pano Platres) is a small hamlet on the border of the mountainous region of Troodos at an altitude of 1200 meters and 38 kilometers from Limassol (Platres on the map). The center of the region, the village of Troodos, is 10 kilometers away. The village is home to only a few hundred locals, but it is one of the most developed and popular tourist stops in the region.
The village of Platres in winter is one of the most convenient and affordable places for mountain skiing. True, the mountain trails and lifts on the slopes of Mount Olympus are 14 kilometers away from here, and they will have to be overcome each time by rented car or taxi, but in any case it is cheaper than staying in the village of Troodos.
In summer the village turns into a popular ecological Mountain Resort. Due to the altitude of 1200 meters above sea level, the temperature here is about 6 degrees lower than on the coast, which in summer is a real salvation. From the village begins several uncomplicated hiking trails, and in the village itself and on its outskirts there are several beautiful natural attractions. But, of course, you need to understand that Platres is a resort for stopping here for a couple of days, no longer. If you decide to spend your entire vacation here, then be prepared for the fact that there is absolutely nothing to do here.
In the village of Platres there are about 10 accommodation options, there is a private housing for rent. By the standards of the beach resorts of Cyprus, prices here are high, but lower than in the village of Troodos. If you wish, you can find accommodation options even cheaper in one of the smaller and not very popular villages, for which you can use the map in the search for hotels. Just consider one subtlety: there are two villages Kato Platres (lower) and Pano Platres (upper). The most developed is Pano Platres, and it is better to stay in it.
