Natural Ornithological park of Imereti lowland
Before the appearance of the Imereti resort, the Imereti lowland was a protected natural area, declared as such in 1911. During the development of the territory and the construction of the resort, the marshland was drained, which greatly changed the ecosystem. In order to at least partially preserve the ecosystem and its inhabitants, natural Ornithological parks were formed. One of these parks stands out. Its territory is fenced and landscaped with paths and places for recreation. Here you can see typical plant species and exotic varieties for this area, and if you are lucky, then birds. There are also mini-zoos with rabbits and birds. Learn more about the Ornithological park here.

Ruins of an ancient Christian temple in Imereti
The remains of the Byzantine temple were discovered during archaeological excavations in 2011, and made a kind of furor in the historical environment. The fact is that, according to scientists, this is one of the first Christian churches on the territory of modern Russia, because the ruins date back to the IX – X century, i.e. even before the baptism of Russia. Unfortunately, now the ruins of the temple are not in such a state that they can be presented to tourists as a tourist attraction, but information about plans for its restoration sometimes appears. In the meantime, the excavation area is surrounded by a fence, behind which the "people's toilet" appeared. If you are very interested, you can look over the fence, and you will see there what is in the photo, and no more.

Almost all buses go here in the direction of the Olympic Park and Imereti Resort and back, get off at the stop "New Century shopping center". We do not advise you to go by private transport, since there is practically nowhere to park.
Trip to Abkhazia
Adler is the best place from where you can go on excursions to Abkhazia, because the border crossing is very close in the village of Veseloe. But you can get to the neighboring country yourself by public or private transport, if you allocate more than one day for this. In Abkhazia, you can see a lot of things for free or relax on the beaches, which are considered much cleaner than in Sochi. But this, of course, is a whole journey that requires preparation. For more information, see Gagra, New Athos and Sukhum and others. A foreign passport and insurance will not be needed, entry is made using a valid internal passport of the Russian Federation or a birth certificate for children. Resorts Of Krasnaya Polyana
At every corner in Adler you will be offered sightseeing trips to the mountain resorts of Krasnaya Polyana, including a walk through the resorts and a cable car ride to one of the mountain peaks. If the cable car is not very interesting to you, and you want to see the resorts, then you can get there yourself by city buses, trains or your own transport, and return back within one day. On the way to Krasnaya Polyana you can make stops in other interesting places: Trout Farm; narzan Spring Chvizhepse; suspension bridge and Extreme Park SkyPark; akhshtyrskiy Canyon; glubokij-Yar waterfall; ivanovskiy waterfall. 🚶 How to get there: Krasnaya Polyana resorts are located 50 kilometers from Adler and Imereti resort. Visiting them is easiest with guided tours, which are sold by hotel guides, distributors on the streets or online. But if you wish, you can go there during the day yourself:
- Trains - the fastest transport, we recommend it. One-way fare from 280 rubles. You need to go to the stations "Estosadok" or "Rosa Khutor", see the schedule for Rosa Khutor station is here.
- Buses they are cheaper (routes 105, 105E, 535, 535e, 219), but we do not recommend them, because you will have to spend almost 2 hours on the road in one direction, besides, you can get seasick from unaccustomed.
- Taxi from Adler and Sirius will cost about 1400 rubles for the whole car. You can save money if you use the services of private taxi drivers who are "on duty" near important bus stops and ask for a trip from 250 rubles per person.
- Personal transport we do not recommend it, because upstairs there are big problems with parking. Paid parking costs from 200 rubles / hour.
Upon arrival at the top of the resorts, you can walk on foot and buy tickets for the lift yourself, or again buy sightseeing tours that will be offered to you by distributors at the train station and near the bus stop.
Akhshtyr Gorge (canyon)
Some pseudo-guides on the Internet describe the Akhshtyr Gorge (canyon) as one of the most notable sights of Sochi and an incredible creation of nature. In our opinion (the authors of the site) these are rather advertising exaggerations. In fact, the Akhshtyr Canyon is just a long deep gorge (about 200 Meters) formed by the Mzymta River in the rocks, and one of the stopping points for a few minutes during group excursions, and nothing more. Therefore, it makes no sense to visit the Akhshtyr Gorge as an independent natural attraction, since a long trip to it from Adler or the center of Sochi is not worth it. But around it there are several interesting places that can be visited in the complex. This is a suspension bridge and extreme amusement park SkyPark, Akhshtyr cave, Dzyhrin waterfall Akhshtyr Lake. Learn more about the Akhshtyr gorge here.
Practical Information
🕐 Working hours: around the clock, but visiting the gorge is best tied to the opening hours of the cave (from 10:00 to 18:00) and the Skypark amusement park (from 10:00 to 17:30).
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: free.
🚶 How to get there: the gorge is located on the Mzymta River between the villages of Kazachiy Brod and Akhshtyr, 40 kilometers from the center of Sochi and 15 kilometers from Adler (Gorge (canyon) on the map). You can get here by bus №№ 105, 535, 219, 221, 130 to the stop "Trout Farm". You can also take the Skypark company transfer (8 times a day from 09:30 to 16:30 every hour from the Adler railway station, the cost is 100 USD), visit the park and then go down to the canyon along the trail through the Akhshtyr cave.
Devil's Gate Canyon
Devil's Gate Canyon is located on the Khosta River and is formed by rock walls up to 50 meters high, narrowing in the narrowest places to a width of several meters. It consists of a paid part, which is included in the tourist route along the Yew-boxwood grove of the Sochi National Park; and a free part, which is visited for swimming and relaxing in the cafe of the same name at the entrance, or to have a picnic in a spacious clearing. Learn more about the Canyon "Devil's gate" here.

You can get into it from the side of the recreation center of the same name or by overcoming a four-kilometer hiking route along the eco-trail of the Yew-boxwood Grove. You can get to the main entrance from the recreation center from the Railway and bus station of Khosta and from the stop "Khosta most" on buses No. 127 or No. 128 (go further from it).
Temple-fortress of IX century and eco-trail "Abaski"
The paid Eco-Trail "Abaski" runs between the popular Glubokiy Yar waterfall and the Akhtsu Recreation Center, its length is 1200 meters. But at the very beginning of the trail from the side of the waterfall there is a temple-fortress of the IX century on the mountain, access to which is free. To get to the temple, you will have to overcome a low, but very steep climb up the mountain, but along the way you will have a view from the observation points. And to be honest, you'll even be able to walk from the fortress Temple along part of the "Abaski" trail with a hare, since the entrance fee is only charged on the other side at the recreation center when entering or exiting the route. Accordingly, after walking a little for FREE along the eco-trail, you need to turn around and go the same route. Be extremely careful when going down the mountain: going down is even more dangerous and difficult than going up. Read more about the IX century fortress temple and the abaski eco-trail here.
Practical Information
🕐 Working hours: working hours are not set, but should be visited during daylight hours in dry weather.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: the temple-fortress is free, a fee of 100 rubles is charged for the passage along the Eco-Trail. If you pass the trail from the side of the waterfall and go to the recreation center, then here you will be met by a local caretaker and will require payment. Tickets are not issued, since charging is a traditional private initiative for Sochi to replenish the personal budget.
🚶 How to get there: the monastery is located near the village on the way to Krasnaya Polyana, 50 kilometers from the center of Sochi and 22 kilometers from Adler (trail and ruins on the map. You can get here by buses No. 105, 105C and 535 to the center of the village, but you have to walk a lot, so the recommended way is by your own transport. You need to focus on the entrance to the waterfall deep Yar or the mouth of the Dragon, and from here start the climb to the ruins of the temple-fortress and then continue along the path. see more on the link to the full description.
Chvizhepse mineral spring and bear corner
Narzan mineral spring Chvizhepse is very popular as a stopping place for excursions to Krasnaya Polyana, and a fee is charged for entering it, as for entering the Sochi National Park. But not everyone knows that very close there is a free spring with the same wonderful water. To get to it, you need to drive or go further after the tourist source of 1.3 kilometers, and go over the bridge to the free source.
Here is the bear Corner Hotel and an equipped outdoor recreation area, for the use of which you will have to pay if you decide to have a picnic on it. Learn more about the mineral spring Chvizhepse and bear corner here.

Abandoned sanatorium Ordzhonikidze
This is one of the iconic architectural sights of Sochi, the heritage of the USSR. The complex of several buildings and extensive well-groomed territory at one time has been in disrepair since 2010. Today it has become a place of attraction for tourists for walks and photo shoots. We would not include this attraction in the number of mandatory visits during a holiday in the resorts of Sochi, but if you have already looked at everything and have nothing to do, then you can look here, especially since it is not difficult to get to it from almost any place in Greater Sochi. Inspection of the sanatorium is possible only from the outside, you can not go inside the buildings. The visit will take 10-20 minutes. Learn more about the Ordzhonikidze sanatorium here.
Practical Information
🕐 Working hours: Around the clock, it is better to visit in the afternoon before sunset. Attention! The sanatorium is closed to the public due to reconstruction. There is no information about the timing and it is unknown whether it will be reopened to the public or will become an operating sanatorium with a closed territory. We will inform you about the changes.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: free.
🚶 How to get there: the sanatorium is located on the territory of the Khostinsky District of Sochi, 6 kilometers from the city center and 10 kilometers from Khosta itself (sanatorium on the map). It is very easy to visit from any resort of Greater Sochi, since it is located next to the main coastal highway at Kurortny Prospekt, 96. almost all city buses connecting the resorts of Sochi pass along this road. These are the Routes №№ 2, 3, 41, 43, 48, 50, 86, 90, 105, 105C, 115, 120, 121, 125p, 125C, go to the stop "Sanatorium im. Ordzhonikidze". Most sightseeing tours of Central Sochi make a stop here.
Mount Akhun
This is a natural and architectural landmark at the same time, and the highest observation deck in Sochi. The height of the summit is 663 meters. At the top is an observation tower with a height of 30.5 meters, built in 1936 and recognized as an architectural monument of federal significance. The tower can be climbed for a fee of 100 rubles, there is a panoramic observation deck. Also near the top there are the ruins of a chic restaurant of the Soviet period, which can be viewed for free. For the entertainment of tourists, a ferris wheel "peak 701" and other entertainment was installed here. The mountain with the tower is a traditional "tourist trap" for luring money from tourists who are brought to the top by large excursion buses. But, in our opinion, it is much more interesting to visit it yourself in the form of an easy hiking route. This route can be done within one day from any resort, having previously reached here by public or private transport. Learn more about Mount Akhun and how to visit it here.
Practical Information
🕐 Working hours: Mount Ahun can be visited at any time, but it is wise to do so only during daylight hours. The observation deck on the tower is open from 09:00 to 21:00 (in winter it can be reduced), the ferris wheel is open from 10:00 to 17:00.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: access to the mountain is free. Visiting the observation deck on the tower – 200 rubles, children under 10 years old-free of charge. Ferris wheel – 300 rubles, children under 10 years-200 rubles.
🚶 How to get there: Akhun Mountain is located in Khostinsky District, 20 kilometers from the center of Sochi and 28 from Adler (Vreshina Akhun on the map. A visit to the mountain is included in many sightseeing tours as one of the stops. By car you can get to the very top: there is a good asphalt road and there are places for free parking. It is better to start the first ascent from the bus stops "Red Storm" (routes No. 48, 50, 105, 105c, 125p, 125C) or "Sputnik" (routes No. 2, 48, 115). The route with an ascent through the Agur Gorge can also be started from the stop "Sanatorium" Green Grove" (routes No. 48, 50, 105, 105c, 125p, 125C). The nearest stop of electric trains "Matsesta", from it to the top will have to go 8 kilometers.
Just in case, we remind you once again that the best way to get acquainted with the resort is excursions. And even better, if they are held by local residents who know and love their city well. You can find and Book Group or individual tours of Sochi with reviews on these trusted sites:
