Dirt, debris and greyness are everywhere on the streets and even on the beaches. There are no footpaths and roadsides or they are very narrow, and even just walking around the city on foot to the beach or shops is dangerous and uncomfortable due to the careless driving of local drivers. Everywhere there is ruin and not well-groomed, even the embankment and infrastructure on it have not been repaired, it seems, since the very Soviet times. More or less, order is restored and cleanliness is maintained in the very center of the city around the Square and the Independence Memorial, but it is worth moving away from this place for a couple of hundred meters, as the situation changes dramatically.

There is another reason why the rest in Gagra can be spoiled-extremely spoiled by the flow of tourists from the Russian Federation local tourism business. May. The holiday season in Gagra lasts from June to October, although the first tourists appear here in the second half of May. Next to Gagra are the most famous and interesting attractions of Abkhazia. These are, first of all, such natural beauties as Lake Ritsa and Ritsinsky National Park, Geghsky waterfall, Blue Lake, Mamzyshkha mountain and much more. As for entertainment, although Gagra is the most developed resort in the country, you should not expect here the level of even the villages of Greater Sochi, not to mention the large resort cities Anapa, Gelendzhik, or the city of Sochi itself, for example. So, in Novaya Gagra on the beach there are standard water activities (banana or parachute riding, jet ski rental), next to the square of the Independence Memorial on the shore there is a park with simple children's attractions, there is also the only water park in the country. In Old Gagra, there is almost no entertainment on the beaches, as well as attractions. But you can walk around the Seaside Park, it also has several very simple attractions for the youngest children, a rope park and tennis courts. You can also go on a boat trip along the coast: barkers on boats and boats now and then invite tourists through a loudspeaker on all beaches.

How to get to Gagra, transport

Gagra is the nearest resort city to the border with the Russian Federation, from the border crossing to it only 30 kilometers (Gagra on the map of Abkhazia). You can get here only by land from the territory of the Russian Federation (by car, bus or train) or Georgia (only by car or on foot), because planes do not fly to Abkhazia. It is best for Russian citizens to get to Gagra from the territory of the Russian Federation through the Psou checkpoint using an internal passport (without using a foreign one), since a note in the foreign passport about crossing the border of the Russian Federation-Abkhazia can bring serious problems when visiting Georgia (see more about this How to get to Abkhazia).
